Chapter Eight: Lies

(Mayumi's POV)

"Why are you asking t-this?" I stuttered, taken aback by Yumiko's question. She stood in front of me, wearing a long elegant red kimono, her plump lips glossy from what I could only assume was lip gloss. "Well, I'm just curious. You do spend quite a lot of time with him." Yumiko stated as I sighed. "Yeah I do, because we're on the same team together." I explained as she rolled her eyes and sighed.

"You're such a liar, Mayumi." Yumiko scoffed as her whole demeanor changed before my eyes. Her bright violet eyes bore into mine as I gulped. "How am I a liar, Yumiko? What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?" I questioned her as I pulled my long off white hair into a pony tail. She smirked and crossed her arms over her chest. "Something has always been off about you, Mayumi." Yumiko commented as I rolled my eyes.

"I could easily say the same thing about you, Yumiko. I still don't understand what any of this has to do with Kakashi." I explained as she giggled. "Well, I wanted to know if you had feelings for him. I invited him to dinner with me tonight and I plan on making my move. Just wanted to make sure you weren't going to get in my way." Yumiko explained as my eyes slightly widened. She invited Kakashi to dinner and he accepted? For some reason the thought of this made me feel like my heart was in my stomach.

"If Kakashi accepted your invitation, then obviously it's what he wants..." I muttered as Yumiko smiled, standing up and heading towards the door as she stopped right before she was about to touch the door handle. "I'm glad you know where you belong, Mayumi. I expect you to stay out of my way when it comes to Kakashi. He deserves a woman who will take care of him, and that woman is me." Yumiko added as she opened the door and left.

My head felt like it was spinning as I put my face in my hands. "Why is this bothering me so much..." I mumbled to myself as I groaned, laying back onto the comfy king sized bed. I needed to focus on getting this stupid curse seal removed. I sat back up in bed and took a deep breath, trying to recollect my thoughts as I heard a soft knock on my door. I rolled my eyes and headed for the door as I spoke. "I think you made your point already, Yumiko-" I stated as I opened the door and was met with Kakashi's dark eye. My face instantly turned red as I averted my gaze.

"What do you want?" I muttered as I turned around and walked over and pulled out my bag from the closet across the room. Kakashi closed the door behind himself as he spoke. "Where are you going?" His deep voice caused my heart to skip a beat. I grabbed my clothes from the dresser next to the closet and quickly threw them in my bag. "I'm going back home. Our mission was to get Yumiko here, we accomplished that, and now it's time to leave." I stated as Kakashi walked over to me and grabbed me by my arm.

"Why are you in such a rush?" He questioned me as I pulled my arm out of his grasp and continued to pack. "I'm sorry Kakashi, I don't want to interrupt your date plans. But I have important things back at the village that I have to take care of. If you want to stay here and live happily ever after with Yumiko then that's on you." I stated coldly as I zippered up my bag. Kakashi's gaze darted down to my chest as he instantly grabbed me by the wait and threw me onto the bed. My face turned cherry red as he climbed ontop of me and pulled the top of my shirt down, exposing the dark curse seal on my chest.

"When were you going to tell me about this?" He asked, our faces only inches apart as I adverted my bright green gaze away from his. He looked closer at the seal on my chest, trailing his fingertip along the curve of the mark on my breast. I gasped and bit my lower lip as I did the best I could to keep myself composed. "H-How did you know?" I muttered, covering my face with the back of my hand as I blushed deeply.

"I sensed something was off about you since we got here. I saw a glimpse of the curse mark through the top of your shirt." Kakashi explained as he tipped my chin back with the tip of his finger. "We will leave tomorrow morning, we can't risk traveling at night with three Genin." Kakashi stated as he climbed off of me slowly, his hands trailing down my sides as I sharply inhaled my breath. I nodded in agreement as I sat up, adverting my eyes from his gaze.

"How much chakra are you able to use?" Kakashi questioned me as I sighed. "Not much, I can't activate my Kekei Genkai at all. I probably can't even make a shadow clone." I explained as he sighed deeply. "Okay when we leave you stay close to me, got it?" He instructed as I nodded slowly. "I'm sorry..for being a nuisance." I muttered as I felt Kakashi tilt my chin up to look at him. A deep strawberry blush crept onto my cheeks as he spoke softly. "You are never a nuisance, so please don't think that about yourself." His words caused my heart to skip a beat as I nodded again. He smiled and turned away, leaving me a moment to recollect myself.

"Thank you, Kakashi..." I muttered as he walked over to the door and raised his hand. "Don't mention it Mayumi, that's what I'm here for." He spoke softly as he opened the door to my room and left. I placed my hands over my face and sighed deeply. "W-What was that all about..." I muttered to myself as I tried to calm down my racing heart.
