Chapter 49: Destruction of the Bloodstone

Selmas gasps awake, just in time to hit the floor.

Jigen’s next to him, and has managed to reach out to slow Selmas’ descent, but he still lands awkwardly on his hip, sending a spike of pain shooting through him

“Selmas!” Gwynfor shouts, sounding more panicked.

“I’m fine,” Selmas says, shaking off Jigen’s hand and the shock that apparently no time at all has passed, though to him it feels like he’s been out for ages. He gets up. “I know how to do it.” He looks over at Byrin, pretty sure his cousin can’t have deteriorated that quickly in the seconds that Selmas has been gone, but Byrin’s face has turned a sickly shade of grey, and the dark veins in his arm are inching up into his neck.

“Do it, then,” Elyhandros snaps, not looking much better. He’s still got his hands pressed to the stab wound that Gwynfor had lovingly bestowed upon him, his mouth drawn tight with pain. “You’re running out of time.”
