Chapter 38: The Walking Dead

The creature is missing an eye and half of its jaw, but it still manages to walk like a person should, a low rumbling groan emitting from its throat as it staggers forward. It’s not fast, but it’s obviously seen them, and is doggedly heading in their direction, at least until an arrow appears in its throat, as though it has sprouted there.

Selmas jumps, and looks over at Jigen, who is already drawing another arrow and hooking it onto the string of his bow, eyes focused on the monster.

“I suggest we run,” he says, firing again. This time, the arrow lodges in the undead’s remaining eye. The thing’s head snaps back, but it still doesn’t fall.

“What is that?” Gwynfor asks, sounding horrified.

“I don’t know, but it’s not dying!” Jigen exclaims. “So unless you want to, we should move!”

He grabs Aisling by the wrist and drags her into a run. Selmas, Byrin, and Gwynfor are close at their heels, sprinting away from the creature as fast as they can.
