Chapter 33: Selmas Found
“Not a chance,” Byrin says aggressively, which might have had the desired effect if he didn’t look like he was hiding behind Gwynfor.
Selmas breaks into a smile when he sees them. “You’re here!”
“Of course we are,” Byrin says. He gives Selmas a bright look, then points to Gwynfor. “She’s being weird again.”
Selmas looks more closely. Gwynfor has her teeth gritted, sweat beading on her forehead, like she’s trying to keep herself held together by force of will alone.
“Hi, Selmas,” she manages, but the effort of speaking clearly loosens a little of her grasp on her consciousness, because Jigen yelps as the sword point pierces his back.
“Okay,” Selmas mutters. He gently puts his hands on Gwynfor’s upper arms and pushes them down, so that she’s no longer holding Jigen at swordpoint. “I’m fine, see?”
