Chapter 24: Spider-Webs
Maybe Selmas should be more surprised when Byrin gets himself into these kinds of situations, but he really isn’t. At this point in their lives, he’s stopped being shocked when he finds his cousin in odd locations; on the roof of the school, having been chased there by a goat; waist-deep in a mud pit after falling in while trying to hunt for crawfish in the silt; under a pile of children because he promised to teach them how to fight and they took that to mean they were fighting him; it’s an extensive list.
And now he’s hanging upside-down by his ankles from the ceiling of a large cavern of dirt, which frankly has Selmas more convinced than ever that there is something building these tunnels, because the space has the same ridges that he found in the tunnel with Gwynfor, and it’s huge, at least the size of their training grounds, and twice as tall.
The spiderwebs also have something to do with it.
