The Warlords Heir

The time of Warlords is coming to an end. Instead of being at near constant war, people have decided to join together into large kingdoms and empires. Our lead character, Octavian Deor, is the male heir of one of the only true Warlords left. But even his family had been crushing under the pressure of the many unified realms. This leads to the main character and his family willingly submitting to the Alvion Empire. They join as a noble family the rank of a count. Still they are looked down upon by even some of the peasants. Seen as nothing more than mongrels they are treated as such. This cause problems for Octavian as he is the definition of limitless pride. Seeing himself as a god he can't stand the thought of mere "mortals" looking down upon him. Leading to his scheme to take the empire for himself.

The Night Of the Oath

SLAM!

I enter my chamber that was just so "nicely" given to me by that damned emperor. To think he would humiliate us and then we are forced to beg for a place to stay. The richest man in the entire empire could only spare 4 independent rooms the size of which only lowly servants would stay. Ten by ten feet and made completely out of hard cold stone. A bed that can barley fit one average sized man with sheets scrubby enough to be mistaken for clothes belonging to someone in the slums! This is where the newly and highly distinguished count family of Deor is staying in the royal capital.

Anger overflows within me causing me to explode in a rage. BANG! BANG! BANG! I beat the filthy stone wall until it cracked. But so did my hands. I looked down and saw through the blurry tears in my eyes that my hands were dripping in blood. I sat down and felt as the indescribable pain of having both your fist being forcefully broken shot to my brain. All I could do is laugh. A god. I once dreamed of being one and not long ago did I truly start to believe I actually was one. How foolish. Does a god bleed? Does a god submit or bow? Would a god be sitting hopelessly on a straw bed in the middle of the night in a childish break down? NO! A god would never! So how is it that I would think I was one? This thought sent me back over the edge which cause be to begin kicking the wall where I had previously punched it.

CRACK! The wall began to shutter more as I kicked it. Finally after many minutes of chaos I had calmed from my tantrum. I decided that I had to think. All I knew is that I must regain my family's renown. To be completely honest the joining of the empire doesn't trouble me. It's the fact that we were forced into it. The empire was like an iron shell that no one not even us Deors could break through. But now we had accomplished something never done by my ancestors. We got inside. Instead of tearing down the great wall, we climbed over it. Even something with diamond skin is weak from inside. This idea cleared my tears of anger. "Perhaps," I mumbled to myself. How dumb could I be. How have I not seen the great chance that was given to me.

I had the goal but how do I achieve it? Power. Power was the only way. Not just any power. True power; power that could not be taken away. Not he power given to one my a title or power given to one by others. Something that no matter how hard people try they can't take it. Power that is not given but earned. That's what I needed. With my great blood given to me by my heroic ancestors I believe I can achieve it.

My current strength was astonishing for my age. No other 15 year old could challenge me in a one on one match. But still it is meager compared to the higher ranked warriors. I needed to achieve my first goal quickly if I ever wanted to achieve my dream in my lifetime. That's when I realized that what I had was nothing more than a dream. Something that could be played off as nothing more than the wishful thinking of a child. I needed a bond with this dream. An unbreakable bond between this dream.

SMASH! SMASH! SMASH!

I begin to beat the cracked part of the wall from my previous tantrum but this time not out of rage but in joy. Finally the pure stone wall 4 inches thick gave in. CRUMBLE! A piece of the wall 5 feet high and 4 feet wide fell to my feet. I kicked the ruble out of my way. I got on both knees and stared at the bright full moon of the clear night sky. "GODS!" "If you exist then listen to these words!", I shouted. "One day I shall join you on your great thrones but in the meantime I will settle for the mortal throne of this empire!" "Let this be the final time I kneel to anyone or anything!" "If I break this pact then please without mercy strike me DOWN!"
