Chapter 11

There was at least an hour until the adults of the house would get home so Peter had time to think about getting inside. He was able to hide most of his injuries with the clothes he had on him. The only exception to this were his hands that were in a pretty bad shape, all things considered.

The solution he came up with was to wear his socks as makeshift gloves. It wasn't particularly elegant, or hygienic for that matter, but it served its purpose.

The moment he stepped into the house he loudly announced his arrival then, before Sarah could come out and welcome him, he rushed straight to the kitchen to drop off the milk he's been carrying and went straight to his room.

When Anthony and James came home after what was an exhausting day for both of them, they had to deal with the children acting weird. The one they considered more responsible was unwilling to come out of his room, no matter how much they asked him, then the other was asking them about death and graveyards for some reason.

They were way too tired to deal with the situation so the both of them simply went to bed, planning to sort things out in the morning. When morning came however, the problems simply disappeared out of nowhere.

Peter was back to his usual self, denying the previous day's drama ever happened, and Sarah was asking them about normal stuff like an animal she could't recognize or what the man in the TV was talking about.

At that point the responsible adults gave up on trying to understand the kids and decided to carry on normally until something else came up.

Peter was impressed by his own recovery speed. All of his visible injuries disappeared overnight and only his injured wrist was hurting a little bit. Wanting to improve it even more, he rushed one of the training achievements.

This was the first improvement large enough that he could feel it immediately, it was a nice feeling and it came alongside a pleasant surprise.

Peter could barely contain his excitement, he finally got a real ability. The Heart of night was more than useful, but it didn't really feel like an ability. This new one on the other hand was not only useful but also usable on demand, and maybe even a little flashy.

When he started to think of ways of using it the first thing that came to mind was sneaking out of the house. He wouldn't have to work when everyone was away from home and he also wouldn't have to come up with excuses to go out.

Thus, the decision was made. He would try out his new ability and find a new target, hopefully an easier one than the day before. He could also try the identification on someone and test how useful it was.

He could have tested it on James since he was home all day, but doing so didn't seem appropriate without asking. And he couldn't really ask anyone in this case, aside from Sarah. He did ask her and tried it out, but only got a message back saying that he couldn't identify other user's.

That night, Peter got out of his bed around 11PM, got dressed in the darkest clothes he had, pocketed his phone and headed out. He activated his new ability right before leaving his room and was extremely cautious, trying to not wake anyone up.

The Shadow body concealed not only his visible self, but also the sounds he made. Despite that, he was still careful, knowing that the attribute the ability relied on was severely lacking.

He got scared a little when the front door's lock opened with a loud clicking sound. After a while of standing completely still, Peter was convinced that no one was woken up and left the house, closing the door behind himself.

He deactivated his ability since it was more tiring than he originally thought, then went to pick up a branch he prepared beforehand.

[Stamina: 86%]

He left, with the knowledge that his escape was flawless and no one had noticed him. Then he headed out to make some money.

Meanwhile, Anthony got out of his bed, got dressed, went out of the house then jumped up on the roof. He started heading towards the other side of town with only one thought in his mind.

"What in the world is that kid thinking?"
