Chapter 2: Beating up Thugs

Solo walked around the city for 9 hours in total, having discovered he can spend 1 point to regain his stamina. Although he ended up wasting 20 points, he felt it was worth it to experiment with the system.

[Name: Solo

Package: Basic

Points: 122]

Eventually however, he ended up getting bored. The city seemed to be very generic, and nobody particularly stood out to him.

Solo then realized something.

'System, what is my purpose here?'

[That is up to the Host.]

Solo found that odd. Regardless, he knew that there was a simple goal in front of him:

Get points.

[As current system only has the basic package, the Host is recommended to do accomplish the basic needs and wants of himself.]

Solo stood in silence, not understanding where it was going with that, and waited for further explanation.

[Host is recommended to eat healthy food, drink safe water, find a good shelter, live in comfortable conditions, and maintain safe living.]

'SERIOUSLY?! That's unbelievably boring!' He cried out mentally.

[...It is not recommended, however Host can gain Points from surviving harmful situations without injury.]

It took a moment for it to settle in, but Solo realized what his system was trying to say:

There is a loophole.

He found an empty alleyway and questioned his system on what Points could be used for and what these loopholes could be for getting them with very specific questions.

What Solo found out was the following:

Anytime he fulfills a basic need or want without retaining any damage, he gains points depending on how deadly the damage would have been normally.

Things like:

A) Eating normal fulfilling meals everyday

B) Drinking refreshing water everyday

C) Not being hurt longer than 1 Day

D) Sleeping in a safe and sanitary place

Would get him about 4-8 Points everyday.

Things like:

A) Getting in fights without a scratch

B) Surviving the wilderness without a scratch

C) Acing a test on the first attempt

D) Convincing someone without lying

Would net him anywhere from 40-400 Points everyday.

After exploring the alleyways of the city for awhile, he finally came across some thugs. They quickly told him to drop his wallet and leave, but Solo chose to use his points to take them out.

...

[50 Points deducted. 72 Points remaining.]

[+50% Strength gained for 1 minute.]

[50 Points deducted. 22 Points remaining.]

[+50% Speed gained for 1 minute.]

[20 Points deducted. 2 Points remaining.]

[+20% Agility gained for 1 minute.]

...

Once the minute was up, Solo was grinning from ear to ear. He just survived taking on 3 thugs, two with knives, one with a pistol, and still come out without a single injury.

He earned a total of 280 Points from this, so while Solo was happy, he realized it was extremely inefficient. Despite this, it seemed the most exciting path to take.

Solo used some points to regain his stamina, and went around the city beating up groups of thugs. He only had a 20% success rate of not coming out without a scratch, as several times someone would get a lucky hit in, but Solo still had a 100% win rate.

After about 14 one versus group fights, he had earned 2,200 total points!

Solo was tempted to jump for joy, but managed to collect himself.

'System, please show me the packages I can get.'

[Host may purchase a package for 1,000 Points per package.

- Combat

- Shopping

- Lottery

- Life

- Advanced

- Moral

- ??????

- ??????]

'System what are the last two packages?'

[Those are two Randomized Packages, once Host has bought one, it will become a package focused on a randomly selected theme. As there are two, there are two chances to gain a package outside of the standard packages.]

Solo decided to ignore the two choices that were essentially just expensive lottery tickets, and looked at the others.

The choices that most appealed to him were Combat, Shopping, and Lottery.

Despite trying his entire past life to avoid fights to survive, Solo found he actually very much enjoyed fighting now, so Combat seemed a good option. Shopping seemed attractive, since he'd be able to buy things directly from his system without having to worry about anyone ripping him off. Finally, the Lottery seemed in interesting since it was basically a permanent lottery ticket just for him.

In the end, Solo got both the Combat and Lottery packages.

[Name: Solo

Package: Basic, Combat, Lottery

Points: 482

Fighting Styles:

- None

Lottery Tickets: 0]

Solo decided to try out the Lottery, and found he had to buy the Lottery Tickets with points. They were ranked from F Grade to A Grade, with F Grade costing 1 Point, and A Grade costing 1 million points.

Depending what grade the ticket was, you would gain a reward roughly equal to the tickets worth.

Any ticket could be used for any type of lottery. It seemed really fun, and Solo didn't have any fighting styles yet, so he bought a D Grade ticket for 100 Points.

A massive spinning wheel with well over a trillion listed results spun inside his mind after activating the ticket, and it continued to spin for several minutes before slowly stopping.

The result it landed on was called the Immortal Mist Style. The second he read the name, the techniques and knowledge of it flooded Solo's mind.

Immortal Mist Style focused primarily on deflecting, redirecting, and countering attacks. The main idea was that no matter who tried to attack you, they would instead be overwhelmed with attacks.

After paying for a hotel room, Solo went to sleep looking at his system gleefully.
