S1E6 - Welcome to the Gun Show

[Quest Completed!]

[Kill ten walkers: Now that you've successfully killed your first walker, you're making progress! Multiple walkers will still pose major issues, but should you overcome this, you'll be much stronger than you were before!]

[Rewards: 300p, Psychological Strength 2, Walker Killing 1]

[420p]

[Quests Received!]

[Kill a Human: You may be reluctant, but unfortunately, this will become commonplace for you. It is better to get used to it earlier rather than later.]

[Rewards: 500p, Psychological Strength 3, Weapon Crate (Bronze), Ammo Crate (Bronze), Sixth Sense 1]

[Kill 50 Walkers: Slowly, but surely, this is becoming commonplace for you.]

[Rewards: 200p, Walker Killing 2, Armor Crate (Bronze)]

I quickly get inside of the surplus store after checking for any other walkers. Seeing none, I shut the door behind me and shove a hat rack in front of the door. It won't keep anything out, but it'll at least make some noise to warn me about anything.

First, let's see what [Walker Killing 1] does.

[Walker Killing 1 - Killing that which is already dead is a much different task than killing the living. You will find hitting the weak points of walkers slightly easier.]

I see. I guess it'll improve my knife placement. So far I've been lucky with my walker kills. Having a bit of time before each of them. But, eventually, I'll have to face hordes. Especially after about a year when they start forming wandering hordes.

Also, [Psychological Strength 2] basically makes me more calm when in direct combat. I make more level headed decisions, basically. But it doesn't help with panic if I'm in the middle of a horde. That'll still panic me.

Looking around the store, I find that it's been relatively untouched. If the old walkers weren't obvious enough, the almost fully stocked shelves would be.

Firstly, I walk over to the uniforms section. It seems all they have is old Vietnam-era uniforms. Which honestly I prefer, due to most modern uniforms being desert camo thanks to the war on terror. I find the size that'll fit me for the most part, and store them in my inventory. I then grab a few helmets, once again Vietnam-era. They may not be that useful right now against walkers, but one day walkers will become more of an afterthought. Humans will be our main enemies.

I find empty ammo boxes and grab those as well. Luckily my inventory seems to store all things in groups, so they each only take up a single slot. Next, I grab some gas masks. I don't know if we'll ever face chemical warfare, but these masks will also come in handy if anybody gets sick. I then find some sheets of body armor. It says it's rated for pistol rounds, so I go ahead and grab some. I also grab a few plate carriers, putting one on just in case.

I grab a forest camo shemagh and put it around my neck. Hopefully that'll give me some good protection from bites. I also grab one of those army-style caps that have the Velcro on the front. I take off the American flag because America is dead in this world. Maybe it'll come back one day, but I doubt it'll be a democracy again for a long time.

And finally… exactly what I've been looking for…

MRE's!

I find a few crates of civilian MREs lined up neatly on the shelf. Corn casserole, pepperoni pizza, chili, texmex, you name it! Each crate stores 52 individual meals, and I find ten in total. Five hundred and twenty individual meals. That may sound like a lot… but with my future plans, this'll amount to next to nothing. But, it'll help me survive!

Combing through the store, I find some sunglasses, civvie radios, a severed hand, you know, all the useful stuff.

I grab a few backpacks, putting on a medium sized one, as well as some IFAK's, individual first aid kits. Basically medkits. These will most definitely come in handy. After that, I grab a few candy bars from the front and move the hat rack back over, leaving the store.

I check my left and right, seeing no walkers, including in front of the gun store, so I head over there. Coming back to the intersection, I check left and right again, seeing nothing up the hill. But down the hill, I see a gigantic horde. At least thirty walkers. They all slowly stumble their way forward, luckily not going up the hill.

I still feel a chill run down my spine seeing that. I continue on, reaching the door to the gun store. Unlike the navy surplus, this one is very obviously picked through. A few walker corpses dot the floor with their heads split open.

I open the door, not hearing a chime this time. I bang my fist on the wall to make some noise that echoes throughout the store, but none of the dead wake back up. Looking throughout the store, I find it to be relatively empty. On the wall, specifically, I find nothing, so no long rifles for me just yet. I do find a few boxes of 12 gauge, 9mm, .22, .45, 7.62, and 5.56. These should keep me going for a while. Looking through the mag section, I find various magazines for various guns. Combing through them, I find a couple extended mags for M4's as well as some bump stocks. I also find a drum mag for an AK as well as a couple extended mags for them. Though, my biggest boon is definitely the two extended mags I find for my M1911. I smile and fist pump as I find them, excited to fill them up. Sadly, no suppressors.

I take a quick look in my inventory,

I notice that beside the MRE crates a button appears allowing me to open the crate without having to manually do that. I also notice that the miscellaneous items have extending slots, showing each individual item. I press open on the MRE crates, and suddenly,

[520 MRE's added to inventory]

Opening the 9mm boxes,

[250 9mm rounds added to inventory]

How convenient! As I celebrate my find, I spot something out of the corner of my eyes. Lying underneath a dead walker, just barely peeking out…

"Holy shit."

I pick the item up and look it over…

"Raging Bull…"

An all black .44 magnum revolver, along with a single box of .44 rounds. I hold it in my hands… and it just feels right. The cylinder is out with a speed loader jammed inside. I guess the guy that owned it didn't reload fast enough. Holding it in my hands, I extend my arm out and look down the iron sights. A smile creeps up my face as I crack a joke.

"Welcome to the gun show, baby!"
