9 Chapter 9

[Next Day]

Rick tried to Radio Morgan on the shared channel, telling him that he found his family alive and that Atlanta belonged to the dead.

Everyone is still shocked by the events of last night, but they are recovering. The sisters were in good condition, and even came to Logan and hugged him, while saying  'thank you', the guy did nothing, he didn't know how to respond. He was a bit of a social awkward.

Logan thought they were simply seeking comfort especially from the person who unknowingly made most of the people around depend on him.

Not long after everyone gathered in the middle of the camp to decide their next course of action.

"Any idea what we should do?" T-Dog asked.

"Moving obviously." Logan said, standing to the side with Daryl beside him.

"Okay, but where?" Jim asked after he and Dale buried Ed this morning, even though not many cared about the guy.

"Morgan said there is a CDC branch in Atlanta." Rick said.

"If there is a governament left, then CDC will be secured at all cost." Rick continued, but Shane interrupted him.

"Nah man, military is our best choice, heavily armed. I say we head to Fort Benning." Shane suggested.

"That's a 100 miles in the other direction." Lori looked at him.

"Yeah, which means away from the hotspot."  Shane also threw her a gaze.

"True, but I'd rather not put my life in the hands of those who you, yourself confirmed to have shot civilians in a hospital, bombed many cities filled with people to try to control the spreading." Logan argued, reminding them of what the military did, but that wasn't all

"Not to mention we don't know if it's still standing, and I don't like betting, especially if lives are on the line." Logan continued listing making the idea look bad,

"..." everyone else was paying attention.

"Plus if we run a 100 miles then find the place overrn, we'd be stuck in the middle of nowhere." Logan finished his argument.

All of this made Shane quiet. He didn't like it, but the guy made his idea look way too bad.

"You got any place in mind?" Rick asked him.

"Not totally sure, but I'd say a farm would be temporarily good, away from the city, large open fields eliminates surprise attacks, since you will see anything coming from afar." Logan put some thoughts before he suggested.

"Why would it be temporary?" Glenn asked.

"Right now not many walkers wander outside of the city, and that means less walkers to deal with, and they won't surprise us." T-Dog interjected since all Logan listed make the place look good.

"Then what's the problem?"

"Hordes, once they start moving in Hordes even if you see them coming, all you can do is run away." Logan finished.

"Shall we try the CDC first? It's not too far, we could reach it before sunset." Rick continued.

"Let's just get the f*ck outta here." Daryl just continued giving everyone the cold shoulder.

Everyone was discussing it until most agreed on going to CDC.

Logan has nothing to say, he's still in thought. He already has the best choice 'find a place with walls, or build a wall around one', but they won't agree, so he can't offer something they'd consider as impossible.

Morales stepped out and revealed.

"We're not going." Morales said.

""What?"" Everyone minus his family were shocked.

"I'm sorry, but we talked about this. We decided to head to where our folks are." Morales explained.

"we're going to Birmingham, Alabama to be with family" his Wife added.

The others exchanged looks before sighing in defeat, Rick and Shane offered him a gun with some ammo.

Everyone was bidding them goodbye telling them to take care and be careful.

Logan was the last person Morales went to talk to.

"This is stupid." Logan straightfully pointed

"I know, but I have to do what's best for my family." Morales said.

"*sigh*... alright, just remember don't make a habit of using the goddamn gun all the time, that will make your ammo disappear in a blink, and be sure to keep away from the main roads." Logan gave him a last warning before handing him a large backpack.

Morales looked inside it and was surprised, the backpack had some food, a machete, a knife, a suppressor for his gun, and some extra ammo.

"I still think it's stupid for you to head out on your own. But I know you won't change your mind. Just be sure to keep your family safe." Logan patted his shoulder leaving the man who mouthed 'thank you'.

The group reached the CDC.

Big surprise, military personnel outside were all dead, the smell makes it obvious it's been a while since they were dead.

Logan looked around the place while others talked in a hushed tone hurriedly trying to reach the building.

Logan inspected most of the area while others start talking, Shane was reassuring Rick as he said they still have time to leave before it's dark.

Not before long the door was open after Rick was yelling some nonsense at the camera he noticed was active.

Before everyone entered Logan called.

"Dale! Can you lend me the keys for the RV?" Everyone was surprised.

"Why do you need them when we're getting inside?" Dale asked, afraid from the answer he had in mind.

"I'm not going yet, not until I collect all those weapons and ammo left behind."

"Why would you need them if we're safe inside?" Rick came up to him.

"Not safe enough for me, just give me the keys. When I get all of those, I will come in." Logan hurriedly asked for the keys which Dale reluctantly gave him.

After everyone went inside. Logan started collecting everything in the vicinity while taking down some walkers that popped around the place.

"I'll be damned if I let all of these weapons slip from my hands." Logan would rather die, than wasting all of this.

Tens of Assault rifles(mostly M4s) , dozens of handguns(mostly SS P320 M17), sub-machine guns(APC9K), heck! there are four machine guns, an RPG, and two grenade launchers, large boxes filled with magazines, clips, ammunition belts, and even drum and double drum magazines…etc

It took him a little over two hours to move everything in a Military Truck, he afterall acquired the keys for a Humvee, and said Military Truck. He loaded everything in the truck while he decided to let Shane drive the truck while he drove the humvee, and leave his van in Jim's hands.

Finally after finishing everything from hoarding the goods, to moving the vehicles to where they parked their own, he went to the RV to get some rest.

"Phew… for now, let's get some deserved rest." Logan said with tiredness as he didn't catch any sleep for two days straight.

Hopefully tomorrow after double checking everything and making sure it's secured, only then he will go inside the CDC.

[Next Day]

Logan underestimated how tired he was, he slept roughly around twelve hours since he went to sleep at 8:27 PM, and woke at 8:34 AM.

Looking out of the RV, he saw the familiar scene of rotten bodies of dead soldiers. All over the place. He still remembers the smell which made him actually puke at a certain point while he was collecting the weapons.

"*Yawn*... at least we have a good amount of weapons and ammo, all we lack is the manpower to use it. But that's a thought for another time." Logan took a bag of chips, one of those that he brought when he went to get Rick and the others.

After finishing he stepped out with his melee weapons on hand as he began to get rid of the walkers that gathered here since he slept.

While the group were still sleeping, with only some being awake, Dr. Jenner who took them in observed the guy who was still outside.

Dr. Jenner was fascinated with him, he was smart and able to make good decisions no matter the situation. While the others were freaking when he was watching them with the camera, that guy was inspecting every inch of the area. He also noticed how effortless he was taking walkers.

"Just who is he? He seems like a capable man. He's also abnormally strong." Dr. Jenner said to no one as he continued to watch the man that impressed him.

Most people would not want to stay out in the dark, but him? He stayed for over two hours collecting weapons and stationing useful vehicles. The guy showed physical feats that were abnormal, like carrying multiple heavy boxes at once.

An hour later after Logan cleared the place, he made his way to the CDC building. As he approached the door, something caught his sight, his friends and companions were running as if their lives depended on it.

That made him on edge as he ran toward the Glass which is mostly a reinforced one seeing that it stood unharmed.

Reaching there he was met with the others yelling to him, but he made a sign that shows he is not hearing, Rick mouthed a few words 'gonna explode, break glass.' He understands from his lips movements.

Taking action he took his axe with both hands and struck the glass which others were hitting before with all his might.

BAAM! crack

The first hit barely made a tiny crack, but Logan was only building the force with that strike since he was attempting a sort of combo aka to strike multiple times continuously.

BAAM! BAAM!! BAM BAAM BAAM BAAAMMM!!

CREAK CRACK CRACK!

SHATTER!

"Run!" Rick exclaimed as he and everyone else ran, Logan swiftly handed the keys of RV to Dale, Military Truck to Shane, and Van to Jim.

After they started departing the CDC building an entire perimeter exploded.

"Holy sh*t!" Someone among them exclaimed.

"Let's get far away from here! this place will be a hotspot before long." Logan told them as he took the lead with the humvee with Glenn riding with him. Followed by Jim driving his van, followed by the military truck filled with most of their stuff in its back, the other cars and Dale's RV being last.

Reaching outside the city somewhere in the Highway, they explained to Logan what happened, with Jacqui deciding to suicide alongside Dr. Jenner, who was the only person left in the CDC, both stayed behind and died in that explosion, afterward he showed them the fruits of his labour last night.

"You know man, you did better than our collected sorry a*ses in there. We left you out alone, next day we needed your help getting out, and now you brought us goods." Shane said after calming down his nerves, and seeing on the bright side that they had a good amount of weapons and ammo.

"Don't worry, the chance came at an unexpected time, and everyone was tired from all that had happened before. Looking after each other is important to stay alive." His words were carried in their minds, he was someone who earned their respect, someone who knew how things should be done, a very insightful and resourceful man.

"Let's get back on the road, we have to find a place to stay for the night before continuing on the road in the morning." Logan instructed them as everyone went back to their vehicles, and continued making their way away from the Big City.
