Chapter 11

Logan got back to the group after separating from them for roughly an hour and thirty minutes. It was already past noon, and he was getting thirsty with all the heat.

He also grabbed the stuff he collected from the cars along with the two fuel tanks before reaching the others

When he got to the others he found most of them missing, he only found Jim, T-Dog, and Dale. 

T-Dog was still weakened from the blood loss, as he couldn't move, so he decided to stay in the passenger seat of the van.

Shane, Rick, and Carl went to find a place they can stay in, and not long ago the others who had nothing to do decided to join the search, with Daryl who returned from his hunt with two rabbits.

He also learned that Andrea and Dale argued, and Amy stood with her sister in that. Upon learning what happened Logan talked about it with Dale.

The old man was kind, way too kind, too protective, he didn't want her to bloody her hands, Logan talked to him about how it's important for everyone to be able to protect themselves.

Told him that every person can make their own choice, after a long conversation Dale was convinced. Logan also advised him to not endanger himself and the others because of a misplaced kindness.

Logan, after quenching his thirst, decided to take a rest for now, probably eat something

In the Woods Andrea who was a bit away from the others got attacked by a walker and tripped, she was now struggling to push it away while the others were running her way since they heard her yell. 

NEIGH!

A horse with a young woman on its back galloped its way toward them, as the young woman hit the walker with the blunt back of her axe, sending it away from Andrea.

The others finally reached the two, the young woman looked at them, with Daryl being ready to shoot her if she did anything.

"Lori! Is there any Lori Grimes!?!" The young woman asked.

"That's me?" Lori answered confused at how she knew" her name.

"Your husband sent me, you gotta come now." Lori 

"What?" Lori was still confused.

"There has been an accident, Carl has been shot." The young woman revealed the terrible news.

Lori froze when she heard that, but the young woman yelled at her.

"He's alive! You gotta come now! Rick needs you!!." 

Lori instinctively went to her as the young woman. 

"Woah! We don't know who she is, you can't ride on that horse." Daryl pointed at her. 

"Rick said you had others, on the highway, that big traffic snarl?" The young woman explained.

They all nodded confirming her words.

She gave them instructions on how to reach the farm they're heading to. Before giving the horse a nudge and then it galloped away.

The walker which apparently wasn't killed sat, which caused everyone to freeze, except Daryl who was still looking at the horse getting further away.

"Urghgh…" 

"Shut up!" Daryl shoots it before taking the arrow and starts going back to the road, the others followed after him shortly

"Dammit! I know something happened since he wasn't answering the radio, just why do problems continue finding us." Logan said in frustration after the others informed them of what happened.

"What should we do now?" Dale asked.

"What do you think?." Glenn asked, everyone looking at Logan to decide.

"Alright, let's pack everything and go there." Logan stood up and told them what to do.

With that everyone started packing, and left the road in the direction the woman showed them.

Everyone stepped out of their vehicles, looking around at the wonderful scenery the farm gives.

"This place sure is big as hell." Daryl said.

"It's far from the road, and it looks like a great place to live in." Carol said,Sophia beside looked at her.

"Mom, is Carl gonna be okay?" Sophia was afraid he's gonna die.

"Don't worry, he will be fine." Carol assured her daughter who nodded at her words.

From the house came the one who showed them the way.

"How's Carl?" Most of them circled her and wanted to know about the kid's condition.

"He's stable for now, but he still needs surgery." After she said that it promoted shock and gasp from many of them.

Logan who was looking around noticed her looking at T-Dog beside him, then it came to his mind.

"He wasn't bite, he cut himself pretty bad thought." This made everyone blink only to realize that Logan was informing her about T-Dog's condition.

"So, what is to be done about the surgery?" Logan asked as he looked at everyone.

"We're waiting for Otis, and Shane to bring back some things Dad needs to perform the surgery." She informed them while looking at him.

"Can you tell me where they went?" Logan asked her, he was going to go after them to make sure things are done as fast as possible.

"They went to Cranwell High School, in Linden County, Otis said it was overrun before, why?" She answered.

"Then I'll go after them." Logan went straight to his Humvee.

"Wait! You don't even know the way there!" She ran after him trying to stop him.

"I have a map." Logan said turning to look at her, the others watched him going, they already know how he acts.

"Why do you want to go?" She stopped a short distance from him to ask.

"I have to make sure they come out of there alive? If that place is overrun, then chances are high it's still filled with walkers." Logan took his keys to open the Humvee.

"Then let me take you there. You won't need a map since I know the place." Logan stopped and turned toward her.

"You know it's dangerous. But still want to go?" Logan asked.

"You're not the only one worried, we're also worried about Otis." She said firmly

"..." the two held their gaze.

Logan turned and gestured for Jim to unlock the truck, which he did.

Logan opened the backdoor and went inside, while she called another girl 'Beth' and informed her to tell their father after she's gone. Logan came out with two assault rifles, one M4 and an AK-12.

"Take this, you're gonna need it if that place is filled with walkers." Logan handed her the M4, turning to the others with a teasing smile.

"Behave until I come back." He said ridiculously as if he was chastising a bunch of kids, which they may be if he always needed to act to save them.

"F*ck off" Daryl cursed while giving him the middle finger, while the others followed the blonde young girl who's named Beth.

They entered the Humvee and drove away.

….

Once they hit the road she showed him which direction he should take.

"Maggie, Maggie Greene." She said while giving him a look.

"Logan Barrett, call me Logan. Sorry, I don't want to involve you in this." His nature of going out of the way to help his companions wasn't something new to the rest, but she too wanted to make sure Otis came back, she had seen Patricia cry secretly when no one was watching.

"Don't be, it's my choice after all." She was fiddling with the M4 in her hand, Logan threw her a side glance before he snorted seeing her action.

"You don't know how to use one of those, right?" Logan said.

"I've only ever held a hunting rifle." She admitted.

Logan explained to her briefly how to handle it.

Meanwhile Shane and Otis were stranded in the school's gym. 

"Those windows, what's on the other side?" Shane suggested while pointing at some windows.

"About 20ft drop with nothing to catch them, other than some bushes, then the athletic fields." Otis informed him in hurry with the predicament they're in.

"We shouldn't have time, we need to go there, break them and get out." Shane said impatiently.

"Not me, maybe you." 

"Hey hey hey." Shane tried to argue, but Otis didn't let him.

"Look at me, you really think I can squeeze through them tiny windows?" Otis said firmly.

"What are you gonna do then?" Shane asked, Otis pointed toward another direction. Shows a locker room down the stairsteps.

"You take three shots then go, I'll cover you after." Otis handed him his bag. 

BAM! CLICK! BAM! CLICK! BAM! CLICK!

After taking down three walkers he jumped but he landed in the wrong way which caused his ankle to fracture. He didn't have time to deal with the pain as one legless walker caught his leg.

Otis screamed as he tried to back away while pushing the walker.

BAM! CLICK!

"Goo!!" Shane yelled as he began to fire his shotgun at other walkers.

Otis stood with difficulty with a limp he started heading to the locker room drawing the walkers after himself.

Shane jumped down and went in the opposite direction, intending to use the high windows to escape. Without noticing two walkers broke away from the rest and went after Shane who broke the windows.

SHATTER! SHATTER!!

'Urghgh…" they growled at him

Shane turned and shot his shotgun without confirming the walkers were down, since he shot one on the chest which pushed the other down but didn't fall too.

He threw the bags out followed by the shotgun. When he was about to jump down the walker he shot in the chest caught him.

Shane punched the walker several times but it didn't budge so he took his handgun and shot it. He fell down and ironically broke his ankle too, just like Otis.

He heard gunshot rang which he concluded that Otis was trying to get out, he stood up as straight as he could with a broken ankle with bags on shoulders and shotgun in hand he start limping as fast as he could.

The two later meet but they have attracted walkers which seems they are getting close to them. As Shane was about to take a very hard decision, a Humvee that he was familiar with stopped abruptly in front of them.

CLICK! RATATATATARATATATA!!

Logan started shooting walkers from the open hatch, as he let Maggie drive.

"Hurry up and get in!" Maggie yelled as Logan kept shooting the closer walkers. They don't have time since Carl's life depends on those equipments. So call this a tactical retreat.

The two got in the Humvee and Logan told Maggie to move. they escaped at the right moment.

Inside the Humvee Shane & Otis looked at the walkers who were getting further and further before looking at each other and heaved a sigh of relief.

"Huff…You really have the best timing as always." Shane said as he was glad he didn't have to do 'that'.

"Let's leave talking until we get back." Maggie said while she was driving, it was a close call! They almost lost Otis and Shane would've died with him making it impossible to save Carl who will also perish.

She looked at Logan once again, this time with gratitude.

"That is IF you're old man doesn't kill me for not bringing you home earlier.." Logan said, trying to lighten the situation. To which she snorted.

"I think the fact that your action saved both of their lives, and Carl's by extension, would make him reconsider." She said with a smile.
