The Vow..

Samara Caine is a strong and independent female surrounded by what she likes to call 'fossilised males'. She has been fighting for years against the status quo, where by female's are only useful for keeping the home, keeping their males happy and above all else keeping their opinions to themselves. She has for years been troubled by her communities 'stories' and though she realises that there is something in those spoken words, she just can't seem to stop the questions popping in her head and the thirst for the 'Truth' seems evermore consuming the older she gets. Follow Samara through her quest, where she not only questions everything she's ever been told, but questions everything she thought she knew about herself.

Prologue

Waking up with a start I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and looked around the room, over to my right was a curled up and still very asleep Kirby, so it wasn't her that had caused me to wake from my slumber.

I had been staying at her house for the last few days, we had been given a school project to work on and like in most cases we worked together as a pair normally taking it in turns to stay around each other's houses as an excuse really, Afterall we were the very best of friends.

Kirby's room was not large and was painted the most hideous and obtrusive pink known to man, she was much more of a girly girl than I and even at the tender age of ten years, both of us were different in our tastes. Though outwardly I came across as the meeker of us both, more feminine, I couldn't stand the typical girliness that was forced upon us and though Kirby was a little more excepting of 'what a female' should be, she swore like a sailor and could cuss anyone down with her awful potty mouth.

Bringing me out of my thoughts of Kirby and I heard talking from downstairs, I'm sure that it was way past our bedtime and wondering around after this would not end well for me it sounded like there were numerous people down there. 'Were they having a party?' was the first thought that entered my head, this wasn't fair, we never managed to get to go to the parties, always being told we were too young.

Creeping out of the bed I was currently sharing with Kirby, I smoothed down my nightclothes and very sneakily made my way to her bedroom door.

Trying my best to be stealthy I cracked the door ajar to try to get a better idea of who and what was happening. To my surprise I could her four distinctly different voices, making out the first two as Kirby's parents I wasn't sure on the others, I had heard them before I knew that, but I couldn't quite place them.

Deciding that this definitely was not a party we were missing out on; I mean who has a party with just four people? I knew if I could get a bit closer to the stairs that not only could I put a face to the voices I could eavesdrop a bit. I mean I was up, and they had caused it so why not be a bit nosey?

Managing to get out of Kirby's room and get a little closer to the top of the stairs I could hear the voices sounding more and more distressed, speaking of 'how they were going to explain' and 'who was going to take parental responsibly' deciding that this was just another boring grown-up conversation and nothing interesting in the least I crept up from my hidden spot wanting to sneak back in bed when I heard a male say "Frances, I know she's your sister and I'm so sorry, will you take the child" stopping me in my tracks to listen more I stood statue still "Of course Leader Danne, I would never see her on her own. Kirby and she are basically sisters anyway. They do everything together. You've seen their relationship". I could hear my Auntie take in a big breath. On the exhale she mumbled "Should I tell Samara her parent's dead!?"

With that last sentence, my heart began to flutter wildly in my chest, my parent's dead. Did she just say dead? Not being able to contain the tears or pain shooting through my body I screeched out a wail of a cry before I was consumed by darkness.
