Shuule had shifted without even realizing it. She dropped to her knees in the snow, and screamed.

She screamed like she could feel the flames herself, lashing up the house towards both her mates. It was clear Ukko was inside, trying to fend off the King's men from getting their jaws around the snake.

"Be quiet. You brought this on yourself."

Edgar's voice had gone even colder than it had before.

"HOW?! I WANTED TO LEAVE! I Wanted to LEAVE! Why didn't you let me leave?!" Shuule screamed back at him, hot tears streaming down her face.

"I had to keep the prophecy close. If this was your city, you'd understand. It could have been you, but you got away. So it has to be him."
