Author's Shameless Review. I hope this will answer some questions. 1. Female Lead is independent. She does not need the ML's help. She is not a damsel in distress either. 2. At this point, my other novel, The CEO's Woman is about to end so the release for Villain's Wife is only 1 per day. I promise this will increase after I finish CEO's woman. This applies to mass releases too. 3. There is no rape or any kind of abuse in this novel. No cheating or third party or NTR. 4. My FL does not have a meek personality. She is extremely scheming and cunning. So there will be more face slaps. 5. This novel will be longer than CEO's woman. This will have more than 500 chapters but less than 1k. 6. Romance is ummmm... slow? There will be smut every 200 chapters. hahaha... kidding. FL is already 27 years old so she is already mature. Read my full review in the comment section of Chapter 1 of "The Villian's Wife" because Webnovel can't silence me with their word count limit!😆😆 I proudly read and encourage my friends and film colleagues to read "The Villain's Wife" because it features Lily, a strong female lead who isn't afraid to show her vulnerabilities and confusion as she navigates her first real romantic relationship. The male lead, Zhuo Jingren, clearly falls in love first and grows from what you fear might be a stalkerish control-freak in the first few chapters to become an open, supportive, and vocal helpmeet and husband as the story progresses. Yes, Zhuo Jingren is handsome, strong, wealthy, and dangerous when crossed, but when it comes to Lily all he wants is to hear her take on the situation and to back her up first and foremost before adding his power to her plans. I feel strongly that given the disconnect between what is happening between men and women in the real world is not reflected in the translated offerings on Webnovel so I was thrilled to find this original gem! The first book I read on this app was "Full Marks Hidden Marriage," and I did so relucantly because of the manner in which Qidian staked their rights to English translations over amateur translations teams as they are the original publisher of the works. I loved the story, so I shamefully followed it from Volare to here. I felt even more awkward because I edited for a few Volare translators who all ended up having to delete their work after Qidian sent cease and desist letters to stop them from doing amateur translations. The next thing I read was "Bringing the Nation's Husband Home." I added a few other books to my library but I ended up finishing "Husband" simply because friends were filming the drama adaptation and I like to keep track of how well screenwriters follow a brief as that is knowledge I need on my job in film for future IP adaptation hiring decisions. I deleted the rest of the thingsbin my library because I was ashamed of myself for reading them. I hid my phone screen if I was reading in public as if I were watching p*rn. Why? Because of the incessant r-ape. BHTNH, A Billion Stars and everything else on offer featured a man who r-aped the female lead 3-5 times per story arc. Other characters defended the ML's behaviour, and even the female leads excused the behaviour as the ML being unable to control his passion or his anger or his jealousy. That is absolute BS and these characters are nothing short of criminal. R**e was also used to show that the female was pure and virginal because she had been 'taken forcefully' instead of being an active participant in her own sexuality. I do realise that some readers live in countries where that is the predominant attitude towards male roles/behaviour and female sexuality and the denial thereof, but for Western readers this stuff is horrid, offensive, appalling and makes for a shame-filled read. Serial r-ape is not relaxing in my opinion. In Lily we find a female lead who was weak in her youth but who has succeeded in business and has healthy, strong friendshi** with a male and a female best friend, this on an app where very few characters have any connections or conversations with other characters that do not revolve around the ML. Almost every 'Female' novel on the app fails the Bechdel test. The Bechdel–Wallace test is a measure of the representation of women in fiction. It asks whether a work features at least two women who talk to each other about something other than a man. The requirement that the two women must be named is sometimes added, in case you didn't know about the Bechdel Test. Zhuo Jingren did not grow up wealthy, and he is not ashamed of being ignorant of the finer things in life. If Lily knows of and enjoys it then Jingren will give it a try, and Lily does the same for him and his interests. They go on married people dates... If you are looking for a female protagonist who is neither a ridiculously violent type, an infuriatingly stupid and clumsy type or a so soft and weak a breeze could break her type then you have found the right book! The FL is not the most book smart but she definitely has common sense and business acumen in buckets. I find her characterisation surprisingly refreshingly particularly in how she is exploring her feelings towards the ML - as in, she feels what real women feel in bewilderment towards their contradictory feelings! There are also no ridiculous misunderstandings, she actually talks to people around her and clears the air well before it becomes stupid. She does not suddenly become distracted when she gets together with ML and she is not some shy virgin keeping herself chaste and pure for the ML only! It’s the other way around. Now I will say ML might be unrealistically perfect in the sense of his devotion to FL - but dang it I need that to cleanse me of the rapist and yandere ML’s that seem to make up the majority of stories around here. The ML has his flaws and hardships in life but he does not allow this to distract from his feelings for ML. He is a steady and dependable partner - and they are partners! This is not a case of FL suddenly losing all agency when they get together and ML just does everything. No, they get **** done as a team and it’s awesome. Other positives: - You can tell the author thought about many elements of the story in advance. It does not feel cobbled together or rushed or just going with the flow. There is a method there and the reveals are well timed and do not pull you out of the flow of the story. - There is a good balance of romance, thriller and action to the story. Not so soppy that I skip parts of too verbose that it insults my intelligence as a ready. Very well balanced. - The author is clearly sensible and understands her audience. There is no glossed over rape, no justification of gratuitous violence and the world building makes sense. Even where the author has had to deviate away from or make up frameworks existing in the real world. - The side characters in the FL and ML’s orbits are well constructed in that they clearly have their own personalities and motivations and back stories. I did worry that they would become a bit trope-y (particularly the secretaries and the best friends) but they do complement the leads well. I will say though that some of the villains started out strong (Yang Lina, Qin Fei) with good backstories and motivations but others became a tiny bit cliched and over the top. This goes for both male and female villains. However, I think they do have a purpose in driving some of the drama and it is not super annoying or obvious as in other stories where villains that should have been removed keep recycling. I will say that where they are now makes absolute sense within the context of the story. I rarely write reviews or rave about a story. In fact this is only the second story that has received this treatment. Definitely recommend! Great job, author!
If you have read this author's other novel, "The CEO's Woman", then you would know that this author writes well. I'm sure that this novel will also be full of surprises, satisfying plot twists, exciting cliffhangers and overall a great story. You would also know that this author works hard to give her readers regular updates and mass releases. So while she continues to write for "The CEO's Woman", let's be patient for her updates for this new novel. The title alone is already intriguing! So this is a female lead novel. She is a strong female lead but she also ends up being someone's wife, a villian's wife? Now that is a perspective that I have not read about before. Going to jump on this because I love how the FL is the tycoon rather than the male. There's plenty enough of that out there, and I'm way intrigued by the synopsis (which btw was really long 😂 I wonder if that should be cut down....but I did enjoy reading it!) and review of the author giving us more info/insight into what the story will be like. Based on what I know of CEO's Woman, I know when author says the FL will be strong, specifically cunning and scheming, it will be true. Jiang Yue was one of the better FL's I've seen on WN, so I'm really looking forward to Lily who screams attitude to me. And the fact that it also has no rape is a big positive for me. Trauma and hardship is ok because life isn't fair, but we need healthier relationships depicted in stories. I do find it funny though that the ML was the one being "taken advantage" of in this story though. 😂 Looks like the roles are reversed and now we'll have a (future) doting wife and hubby trying to catch his senpai- err wifey's attention lol. Two chapters is too short to really review the story at this point, but I at least wanted to express my excitement for the story as well as its promise of taking a spin on the 'classic(?)' CEO tale. (I don't remember the last time when I got moderately hyped up by the infamous CEO story >.<'.) Best of luck!
There is only two chapters out so far, so it's too soon to judge properly. But from what I've read so far.. •Captivating plotline, immediately drew me to the story from the very first chapter. It made me want to read more, so the opening is very good. The mysteries are laid out without much confusion, the incidence seven years ago - the interaction between the leads in the first chapter. I can't wait to find out more of the situation that lead to her leaving that cruel place. • The emotions of the female lead, this is very important. It's only two chapters in but I already feel bad for her and can sympathize with her situation, and I can feel her pain and anguish. The FL, just two chapters in but since the emotions are portrayed so well. I can already see this "independent" character, a story about a woman who through all her hardships and pain moved forward with her life 🤔🤔 my impression so far. (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ Good luck with your new novel Blips, I'll surely be supporting you with this
Discliamer: I have not read it yet and won't until there are more chapters. Mainly giving it five stars base on the fact that I really like the CEO's woman by the same author and I want to help the author. The CEO's woman is very interesting, characters are well developed and the plot is gripping. Hopefully I will love this novel as much as I love the CEO's woman.
A Unique, Realistic and Sensible Lead Couple. After reading them, you will end up saying - "That is how a Woman Should be!. And that's how genteel her Man should be.!" A beautiful relationship, NO MISUNDERSTANDINGS WHATSOEVER, good amount of Face slaps and, The best part is - THE LEAD COUPLE! I am a loyal fan now.
Not yet done with The CEO's Woman, but having another to read while stocking SS is perfect. 😁 Lily, Liam Arison, Facci--non asian names makes the story more refreshing for some weird reason. I don't know why I pick up on this haha. The story of course is good even if you have not read Blip's other story. But I wish more was released but once a day is better than less. Really like the female lead teasing poor male lead. Will be supporting you!
Story definitely captures your attention through the detailed synopsis. Both FL and ML looks strong instead of as usual one is weaker than the other. Lily will surely make our ML suffer like hell while courting her... atleast that seems to me though. This add on seven year mystery is a bonus to get my attention.... And I'm not good enough to say anything about grammar, writing style, sentense structure or blab blah blah.... her other novel 'The CEO's woman' speaks that loudly.... we are well versed by her captivating writing style and I'm sure this book won't be a disappointment. This is the second novel of theBlips and I can honestly say that I am excited, overly at that. I like how the author develops the female lead characters in her novel and the fact that the male leads are not violent in nature, at least towards their better half. There's only 9 chapters at the time I am writing this review but I can say that it already looks promising. The start is a bit different from the other novel since the leads did not go back in time to redo their life. Nevertheless, I like how the female lead have to experience her mistake and have the opportunity to turn her life around within one lifetime, in so far as the current chapter. And I do hope this novel would stick more on the realistic side, except for the godlike features of our leads of course 😅. Chapter updates will become stable once our dear author finishes her other novel (which you guys definitely have to check out if you haven't read it yet). Title of her other novel is "The CEO's woman". Happy reading everyone.
Awesome story with a new twist where the ML gets treated like an escort. Amazing character development and background story as expected out of Blips! If you loved The CEO' Woman, you will definitely love this. This story keeps you hooked on, wanting for more. After all, who doesn't like a strong, independent woman rising from the ashes like a phoenix ??
