15 CHAPTER 13: SCHOLARSHIP?

From the crowd, I could see Mr. Warren with his cane, walking onto the stage. This looked awful at first, because why would you call an old man on a wheelchair here to hand the rewards to the students?

I clapped along with the crowd. The MC then continued.

"To the students that achieved more than 5 As, they would be given a scholarship to enter any university they want. It's all thanks to Mr. Warren for making this possible."

Once again, the crowd clapped and I followed, this time more sincere. I respect this man.

"Now, onto the ceremony, I will call out the names of the students that achieved more than 5 As. Mike Park, please come and receive your reward."

I expected nothing less from Mike. He's one of the smartest students after all. As usual, the student would go up, greet the guest, thank them, shake their hands, look at the camera and take a picture, shake hands again and then leave.

"Next, Sylvia Morales. Please receive your reward."

Hearing that name, everybody started whispering. Murmurs could be heard. Sylvia wasn't one of the students that the school expect to achieve more than 5 As. Heck, they didn't even think that she would get an A! This is because she hardly ever comes to school. She's well known for her reputation as a bike racer.

She's tomboyish, has an explosive personality and lazy! The teachers couldn't even do anything. They had nothing else to do anymore. So they just let her be, and now she made everyone shocked with her results. From behind the crowd, a girl with black short hair stood up. She calmly walked to the stage with a smile, while everyone was staring at her.

"Did you think she cheated?"

"Dunno."

"Maybe she's smart but it's just her personality?"

She ignored what people said, just like I did. After receiving the reward, she went down from the stage and disappeared.

"Next on the list we have Damien Reeves. Please come onto the stage."

This time there were no murmurs. Everyone was quiet, because I was expected to achieve 5 As anyways. I went onto the stage and greeted Mr. Warren with a sincere smile.

"We meet again sir." I said, while I grasped his hand and shook it.

"To be honest I didn't know you were a student here."

I laughed a little and looked at the camera. After a moment I looked back at Mr. Warren.

"Thank you for everything you've done sir. We all appreciate it." I said with a nod at the end.

He just patted my shoulders and smiled. I went down and sat back at my seat. Two more names were called and the MC concluded the ceremony.

I immediately stood up at the same time as everyone else to leave. Suddenly I felt a hand touch my shoulder. I looked around and to my surprise, it was Sylvia.

"Hiya Damien, we need to talk."

********

We ended up in a cafe close by. I sat next to Clara, while Sylvia sat infront of us. I ordered a caramel macchiato while Sylvia ordered a latte.

"What is it that you wanted to talk about?" I asked her, before sipping my coffee.

She took a little sip of her latte. Then her sky blue eyes stared directly at mine.

"I saw you fighting that girl the other day." She said, with a smile.

Ahhh.... bummer.

I stayed quiet and waited for a follow-up.

"Teach me, can ya?" She asked.

"What?"

She scoffed at my reaction.

"I saw how you fought her. Your style is the same as the man who saved my life five years ago."

I stared back into her eyes.

"Is there a reason why though?" I questioned.

"You know what I do right? I'm a bike racer. It sounds harmless but you don't know what I know. We also have thugs in the biker community. I need to learn how to defend myself or I'll end up in the hospital with broken ribs, or maybe raped." She explained, then took a sip of her coffee.

I just nodded and "hmm"'ed. Maybe this is good.

"Sure. I can teach you....."

"Aw heck yeah!"

"...but you gotta tell me which university or college you're going to enroll in."

She immediately became quiet. After a long silence she finally decided to speak.

"To be honest I haven't even thought of entering any university."

"No way. You're just going to race on your bike all your life until someday you die after crashing against a pole at full speed?"

She immediately froze.

"Maybe. It feels like my whole life is going to be spent on a bike." She said. I could hear a small sigh.

"Any course you're interested in?" I asked her.

"Well, there's this one course I'm quite interested at."

"Yeah? What's that?"

"It's something called Motorsport Engineering or some sh-"

"PFFFSHFFT." I spat out a little of my coffee.

"You okay amigo?" She asked with a worried look on her face.

"Yep."

I glanced over to Clara who is just looking around the cafe, observing other people. She doesn't seem to be interested in our conversation, but she probably heard everything anyways.

'That's two people now that wants to learn something related to engineering...." I thought to myself, while wiping my mouth with a tissue.

"So... which university do you think have it...?" I asked.

She thought for a moment, one finger on her lips. She's like those cartoon characters you see.

"I think Balkan State Univer-"

"COUGH!!!!"

"Bro... estas bien?"

Oh Lord, can you not give me any more surprises?
