I Will Think About It

Irene hoped to suppress her feelings, but apparently, it made her look judgmental.

Damian burst into laughter when he saw the way Irene responded to his eerie request.

"Was it that unexpected?"

Irene arched an eyebrow at Damian.

"Don't tell me that you fell in love with me at first sight, Mr. Henderson. It will be quite an insult to my intelligence."

"Oh, I do not dare to do that."

Good for him.

"Then?"

Damian put his wine glass on the table and leaned at the table with both arms.

"Do you remember the dinner at my grandfather's house, the night we met?"

Oh, why would she forget the night she successfully divested Chris of the CEO position? It was the first milestone of her revenge plan.

"Most certainly."

"My grandfather is quite taken with you. He has been urging me to ask you out. So there, I asked you out."

Irene was rendered speechless by the way Damian spoke. Had he not a single ounce of respect for women? If Damian thought that she was going to run into his arms just because he curled his finger at her, the man was sorely mistaken.

"... Is that supposed to make me feel good?" Irene asked, her tone sharp and unyielding.

The ambiance between them was filled with obvious spikes.

"I don't mean to offend," Damian's tone softened when he noticed how unhappy Irene was. "I am sorry if I did. You are an attractive and intelligent woman. I can imagine myself falling for you in the future."

Aha.

That did not mean that Irene could see herself falling for Damian. The man clearly overestimated himself.

"If you are not trying to offend, what do you really want from me?"

Damian straightened his suit jacket and inhaled. He then cocked his head to the side and said, "I am wondering if you are interested in dating me, so that we can get to know each other better."

Irene shook her head.

"Sounds like you only need a fake girlfriend to flaunt before your grandfather. Has he been urging you to get married soon?"

Damian leaned against his seat and grinned.

"He has, but I am entitled to my opinions."

"And what are they?"

Damian intertwined his fingers and leaned closer to Irene.

"That you are an interesting woman and that a relationship between us is more than possible in the near future."

Irene leaned closer to Damian as well.

Their faces were only centimeters apart, allowing Irene to marvel at Damian's amazing pair of blue eyes.

"Well then," she said in her most seductive tone. "Why don't you give me some time to think about your offer?"

"Gladly."

Damian slid his name card over the table in Irene's direction.

"Feel free to call or text me anytime. I will be waiting for your answer."

Irene took Damian's card, intent on feeding it to the next paper shredder she came across next.

Damian offered her his arm as they walked out of the restaurant. Irene took it, but she had a hard time faking her smile afterward.

Outside, it had begun to rain heavily.

Irene stared at the treacherous sky in disbelief.

"Allow me to take you back home," Damian offered.

"No need, I can take a taxi back home," Irene brushed off his offer.

"Irene."

Damian took Irene's coat from her arm and put it around her from behind.

His magnetic voice tickled Irene's heart when he continued speaking, "I hope to hear from you soon."

Damian gallantly waited until Irene got into her taxi before he went away on his own.

Inside the taxi, Irene took out Damian's name card and stared at the words on top of it.

Damian Henderson, CEO.

Primavera.

Irene clicked with her tongue and cursed under her breath. She wanted to crumble the card in her hand, rip it into shreds. Maybe Damian could feel the pain that way.

And yet, Irene did not end up harming the card. She merely tucked it back into her coat and stopped thinking about it.
