Chapter 6

Once the three had gone back inside the house they headed straight to the living room, they saw both Jake and Hunter sitting on the couch with Andrea lying in Hunter's arms, they automatically smiled at the scene it was hard not to not smile when you saw the amount of affection the two boys had in their eyes while looking at Andrea.

"It seems you will have to start working on baby number 3 soon," Carter said as he patted Lisa's shoulder, Daniel chuckled a little.

"As if you can speak Carter, you aren't married yet and have no kids, so maybe you should start working on that first" Lisa joked, but she could see Carter's smile fall for a second before he forced it back.

"Hey you two should head to the dining room, I will get Mom and the kids," Lisa said pushing the two in the direction of the dining room, Carter furrowed his brows a little confused at the sudden change of direction from Lisa, but Daniel went along with it, he didn't feel like he had a place to say anything.

Once they got to the dining room they took a seat, Carter turned to Daniel with a small smile.

"Sorry about that, I have no clue why she suddenly wanted us to come here first" Carter apologized.

"Oh it's fine, I am sure she had her reasons," Daniel told him with a comforting smile.

It took a few minutes but soon Carter's mother and Lisa joined the two with the kids, Hunter and Jake sat next to one another on the right side of the table, whereas Ms.Abbot sat at the head spot of the table, Carter and Daniel sat on the left with Andrea's stroller standing behind them where she was fast asleep and Lisa sat next to her boys and across from Carter.

Their dinner was filled with laughter, Carter told his mom about everything that came to mind that happened between the time they last met, the two boys told their uncle and Daniel all about their school and how it was going, telling them about their friends and games they have been playing, Jake even bragged about getting a A on his last science exam, happily proclaiming his dream was to be a scientist.

Once dinner ended Ms.Abbot called Carter out to speak to her in private so Lisa decided to teach Daniel a few things to help care for Andrea.

Carter and his mom sat in her office, "Lisa told me it seemed like something was bothering you" Ms.Abbot started.

"It's nothing Mom, no need to worry," Carter said, his mom slightly glared at him.

"Carter Abbot... you are lying through your teeth, do you think I can't tell?" she scolded her son, and he laughed a little.

"Fine... Angela came by the apartment earlier today" Carter said with a sigh. Ms.Abbot looked at him not understanding why he seemed so hopeless.

"Was that a bad thing?" she asked her son, Carter thought a bit then nodded.

"It somewhat was... Angela isn't fond of Daniel, once she found out that he was gay it seemed like she suspected that everything the two of us do together or that he does for me was some kind of ulterior motive to seduce me, even when I try to show her that she is wrong she get angry and starts yelling, she yelled so much she completely upset Andrea today, it took Daniel two hours to calm her again after the whole thing" Carter explained to his mother who was a little dumbfounded at the revelation of her future daughter-in-law's surprising personality.

"And you told her that nothing would happen and yet she still reacts that way?" Ms.Abbot told Carter and he nodded, she sat there a bit wondering what to tell her son.

"Honey if she acts like that right now, how will you act once you're married, how will she react when you have to go on business trips, even if one day maybe Daniel is no longer your secretary, and you get a new one she will react the same way because she is doubting you, it will always be the same way... if you can't take it anymore leave her now before it gets too serious" She told her son.

"I can't just do that, you know Angela is the only daughter of one of our most important shareholders, if I leave her then what happens to the company?" Carter said, resting his head in his hands.

"Honey the company will survive not having him, and I am sure he won't let private and personal matters mix, but if you aren't happy then mom won't be happy," she told him as she went to give him a hug.

"I will think about it, but I will give you a heads up if I decide to end things, or to continue them, for now... I just want to help Daniel with Andrea, he doesn't have a family like ours who loves and supports one another so I want to help as much as possible...I want to help his little sister as well" Carter told his mom and she nodded a little.

"If that is what makes you happy son then go ahead but remember mom is also here to help, if you both have work and you aren't sure what to do with Andrea you are welcome to bring her to me and I will keep an eye on her for you just like I do for Lisa with the boys," she told her son, he smiled a bit.

"Are you taking her as your granddaughter?" Carter joked but she nodded happily.

"Of course, you and Daniel have basically been inseparable since he started working with you, he was the first friend you have ever had that you cared for so much, meaning Daniel is part of our family as well, meaning Andrea has a family here as well who will love and care for her," his mother told him, he felt his eyes sting a little.

Knowing how Daniel grew up and hearing his mom's words he was sure Daniel would cry if he heard her say those words, he felt thankful to have her as a mother.

Someone who cared for him so much that she was willing to even love his friends as her own family.

That night when Carter and Daniel headed home with Andrea both felt a little more at ease, Carter felt more at ease and less pressured surrounding the idea of marriage, and Angela, he felt a little better speaking about the things that had been worrying him.

For Daniel, he felt better knowing he had Lisa who was willing to teach him things he needed to know to raise Andrea well, he had already made all the plans he needed in his head, but he needed to make an appointment with a pediatric doctor so she can get check-ups and he needed to contact Abigail and talk to her about many things to make everything a little more legal with him having Andrea, he also wanted to go over her documents Abigail left with her, he wanted to be the best parent he could be to Andrea...
