Being of nobility isn't always about titles, honors and luxuries – there's also a very harsh reality that comes along with it. 

Way back then, there's no educational opportunity for women in this empire. The younger and the prettier they are, the higher the price they're sold off at. It's basically human trafficking under the guise of marriage. If they couldn't give birth to a son, an heir, they'd be treated like disposed goods. 

However, Caelestis has already come a long way.

At this point in time, women don't only have the right to learn, but they can also finally decide their marriage partners, though of course, it still depends on the ruling authority of the houses they belong to. Unfortunately, the Reiss ducal house is one of those that still follow the old tradition of marrying off their daughters. For the current generation, there's not much time left before an engagement is made official.
