First Step

William sat on the couch for a few hours, trying to understand how to do the next step toward the facilities. While he knew he had to move up about two hours every day, he could not move that far every day as he would not have enough time to hunt the groups and figure out their movements and in's and outs. This would be like a full-time job watching them. He had considered sending a shadow to do recognisance so most of the information could be gathered before he would have to go up but that was impossible as he would be too far away from the shadow and thus could not give it orders so it could only do what it was told to before it set off. The only problem is it was an anomaly, something the facility was an expert in hunting down tracking, and capturing meaning that his shadow was likely to be caught, and without active orders, it could only do very simple things.

This limited how useful his shadow could be and opened it up to being captured easily, as without the correct orders the shadow could get captured.

No, he had to do it in person as he could order his shadows as well as engage the enemies if he is found out by the teams moving around the area or going out to attack creatures and entities.

Making up his mind, William made his move forward. He would have to move outside the city and towards the army bases, but how could he do that when he is still supposed to be in high school and cannot leave his sister behind? Luckily he had the best resource known to man, the internet. After browsing the net for a few hours, he found the way forward he would need to take.

An uneventful week passed and William put his plan into action.

Walking into the principles office he sat down "Now William what is it you would like to talk to me about"

"I would like to move to a military school after what happened"

"it is sudden with your wish but I suppose after being kidnapped and transported you may feel unsafe at all times now"

"yes I feel unsafe always and I'm worried for my sister as well as my kidnapping has caused major stress on my parents straining their relationship"

"it there anything wrong at home William"

"not yet sir but I fear it will if this continues. I just want my sister and I to move to a military school as soon as possible"

"It will be very hard to do that William as most schools have already taken students and transfers are not as easy in military schools," the principal said stroking his greying beard. As the clock ticked and tocked, William stared at the principal, a man he had met so little now decided his fate. Sweat started to roll down his forehead as the ticking and tocking of the clock got slower and the light through the window dimmed, covering him in unknown darkness.

"I'll see what I can do," said the principal after what felt like forever. "And if it gets worse William call me I can at least get you into somewhere safe," said the weathered-looking principal. That was the reverse of the happy-go-lucky vice principal that would always encourage the students even though the vice principal was trustworthy for all your problems, the man across from William gave him the feeling that he would move mountains in order to keep what he just promised.

With satisfaction that he will get what he wanted now or soon, William was able to relax properly for the first time since he got back. With a stumble, he fell slowly down onto his bed and slept like he would not awaken.

After two days the principle called William to get his and his sister's items and come to the school where with his father's blessing, they could be transferred to a military school.

"I wonder why he allowed us to leave? Maybe he just could not be bothered anymore" William wondered what motives his father could have for allowing this to go ahead. Either way, he was not looking this gift horse in the mouth.

William grabbed his sister and forced her to pack everything she would need before he left. Even though he had his father's blessing, he would not wait around for that to change.

Meeting the principal outside the school, they got into his care and he drove them to the new military school. It was clear to see that they where supposed to make their own way to the school but that the principal had gone out of his way to send them off personally.

The car ride was long and boring having not bothered to prepare anything for the trip, all he could hear is the same song on the radio over and over as his sister asked are they there yet, driving William closer to the brink of insanity.

When they arrived at the school, it was not what William expected, he wanted to see an opulent house spanning across the horizon, a manor, but what he got was a gate, a few small buildings, and that was all this military school was small, really small.

As William got out, the principal moved him to the side and walked with his sister to another bigger set of buildings to the side and told William to wait. Willaim had no idea why he was asked to stay but he would not disobey the man who had helped them so much so he did what he was asked, even when the sun went from low in the sky to high then till the sky darkened and the lights of the base came on it was only then that he saw the principle return looking tired.

"What happened" asked William

"I got you two in, but your sister is not going to this school as this one does not do primary school teaching. She will stay here with you for a few days."

"Then what"

"Then an old friend will come pick her up. They live the town over from the base and will look after her until she is old enough to go to the military school."

"So she will be able to visit right, like every day?."

"No she won't, the town over is an hour away. She will see you on the weekend"

William did not like this idea of the two of them splitting up as it broke the promise he had made with his sister.

"I'll only allow it if I can meet them and see where they live" William said as he stared at the only one who went out of his way to help him.

"I'm glad because you are not enrolled until Monday so until then you will be staying with the Gamelin's. Now follow me, they will drive you back with your little sister, let's not keep them waiting" the principal said after William stared at him for a little bit. He had assumed his sister was already enrolled in the school and was too tired to come back out.

After walking for a few minutes through this small yet large army base with small buildings dotted about and a few large open areas in between which looked like a wide abise in the dark a place from which no light returned.

Arriving at an old car that was straight out of a 1950's magazine, William saw two lone figures standing by the car, one smoking and the other talking. As he got closer he saw they were older than his parents but not by too much, maybe ten years older, and even though the car was from the fifties they definitely did not buy it then.

Seeing the woman argue with the man who was smoking, William saw his sister in the car sleeping on a big seat with blue leather that stretched the whole back area of the car.

The principal walked towards the two. It wasn't long before the man noticed, turning to the principal and ignoring the woman who was with him.

"Hey Ed, took you long enough" said the man almost yelling, clearly wanting to get away from his wife that would not stop arguing.

"What has got you two arguing again" sighed the principal

"Oh she just thinks it's silly for us to take in someone at our age, but it was only a few years ago she was lamenting and moping around the house that all the kids had left" the man laughed and his cigarette almost fell from his mouth at this statement. The lady next to him clearly his wife went bright red.

"It wasn't just me who missed them" she blurted now turning the laughing man's face red.

Then silence fell making the already earry ground even more scary before two giggles pieced the night.

William looked in shock as both of them where laughing with red faces, William was sure the insults would have come next and then the petty squabble would continue for ages but to his happiness it did not, they where laughing at how silly the argument and each other had been.
