Kites and Mountains

The sky is cloudy, not much sun is showing as the wind blows. A chance for kids to play outside freely without worrying. A perfect day to fly a kite.

"Princess! Wait for me!" A young boy wearing a blue polo under a red cardigan shouted at the girl who is running, arms open wide as she feel the wind slapping to her face.

The girl chuckled. "You weird alien, Why are you so slow?" She said earning her a glare from him.

"Tss! Why do I have to carry all these?" He complained, Referring to the kites he's holding. Sweat dripping from his face.

The girl turn with a serious gaze making him gulped. "Because..."

"Because I'm the princess. Have a problem?" She bluntly replied leaving him no choice but to obliged.

The boy just followed the girl wherever she is heading, Cause he knows it will give him benefit in the end.

Both of them stopped at the part where they can see the view of a mountain. The strong winds made their hair and clothes fly. Making it all messy. But for him, she's still beautiful.

"Look at the mountain, Tan Tan. Isn't it beautiful?" She stated. The boy look at her before turning to the mountain. He smiled.

"It sure is." The boy mumbled as he sighed. It didn't go unnoticed for the girl. "Hey, what's wrong?" She asked, concern written in her eyes.

The boy smiled weakly. "It's nothing, I'm just thinking something." He replied. But it's not enough for her.

"You know you can't lie to me, right?" The girl said making him chuckle.

"How can I lie to you, Your majesty?" He mocked, Receiving an eye roll from her.

The boy return his gaze at the mountain. "You know... Sometimes I wanna be a mountain." He blurted, Catching her attention.

"Mountain, Why, so you can be seen everywhere?" The girl asked. The boy shaked his head.

"No, So I can see the world. To know the secrets behind everything. I wanna know the reason. So I can understand." He explained, Making her forehead furrow.

The boy saw her expression and laughed. "What are you talking about? Can you please stop using alien language?" She complained.

The boy sighed as he gets a red thread from his pockets. "What is that?" She asked.

The boy puts it on her wrist. "They said red thread pulls two person together. Wherever they are, There's always a way for them to meet." He explained as he tie the thread on her wrist.

He looks at her with a serious gaze. "No matter what happen, I'll always come back to you. Always remember that, Ren Ren."

The girl didn't fully understand what he meant, but her tears came streaming down her cheeks. "Hey, don't cry. Come on let's fly the kite!" He exclaimed as he drags her towards their kites.

"You think I wouldn't know?" She asked that made his breathing stopped.

She chuckled. "I might barely remember things, but I'm not dumb." Lauren pulls a red thread from his polo and showed it to him.

Ethan's eyes widen, his body automatically snatched it from her hands with care.

"You're that boy at the playground." She blurted, her gaze at the sea. Ethan sighed.

"Why didn't you told me? Until when are you going to hide it from me?" Her voice is starting to crack, trying her best to control her emotions.

"Lauren, let me explain." He muttered as he tries to reach for her hands. But she retrieved it. "You have a minute to explain."

Ethan was flustered. He doesn't know where to start. "Your time is running out, Walker." She remarked, Making him cram.

"I didn't told you cause it might trigger you. Most of your memories of me are connected with the accident. And I can't bear to see you suffer again because of me." He explained as he gasped for air.

Lauren turn to him with a blank expression. "You think that's reasonable?" She asked that surprised him. " I-i"

"You left without saying goodbye, How do you expect me to react?" She stated, Anger is felt from her tone.

Ethan can't bear to see her, so he keep avoiding her gaze. "I... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have come back."

"Ha! Do you think leaving me would change something? What is done is done, Ethan. You can't do anything to change it."

Lauren sighed. "I'm not asking much from you. All I want is for you to accept it." Her words made him turn to her.

"We all moved on, Ethan. We accepted the fact that it happened. Why do you keep blaming yourself when you didn't do anything wrong in the first place?" This time, Ethan break down infront of her.

"I-im s-sorry... I can't h-help not to." He stuttered as he wipe his tears with his hands.

Lauren sighed and moves closer to him. "Stop blaming yourself for what happened, It's not your fault. So stop crying. You look weirder. " She stated making him laugh.

"You never change, you still doesn't take things seriously." He stated as he fix himself.

"Tss! you're just too dramatic. There's nothing to cry about." Lauren replied. "How did you found out?" He asked.

"Simple. Your words, Actions, And my family." She answered. "You speak as if you just solved a puzzle." He concluded.

Lauren gave him a glare. "It's easy for you to say, You're not the one who had an amnesia."

"Hehe , carry on."

"I've been having dreams, at first I thought it was just random. But it started to become a deja vu. Then the box full of pictures of us when we were young. Add the fact that almost all the person around me know you, while I don't." She explained. Ethan nodded as he absorbs what she said.

"And this." She added as she get a red thread from her pockets. "This knock some senses to me."

"Lauren..." He called. "Hmm?" she replied.

Ethan reached for her hands and look into her eyes. "Let me make it up to you, Princess."

"Huh?" She asked, still not getting what he said.

Ethan flashed her a sincere smile. "Let's catch up from all the times we weren't together, Ren Ren."
