Chapter Two

I slowly get out of bed after turning my alarm off. I hate mornings. I prefer clear nights where you can see the moon and stars shining above.

After I got out of bed, I picked out my best and nicest clothes; a navy blue skirt with a white blouse. I grab some makeup from my makeup bag and head over to the bathroom and start doing my makeup and brushing my hair. Then, the uneasy I felt last night came back stronger than ever. It is quite debilitating. But I really need to focus on getting ready for my first day at work. So I brush it off my shoulder and continue to do my makeup and brush my hair. Once I finished, I head over to the kitchen to make some breakfast and coffee. Today, I feel like eating pancakes. So I get my pancake pan out and mix the batter. I gently pour the mix into the hot pan. after a few minutes, it was time to flip it. I do that two more times. I get the maple syrup out and set it on the table. I grab my pancakes from the counter and set them on the table. Not long after, I finished eating them.. I take the plate and fork and put them in the sink. I'll wash dishes after work. I put my dress shoes and coat on. I grab my keys and head out the door. I lock it and start walking down the hallway. I walk through the door and head to my black SUV. I unlock the door and get in. I turn the engine on and get out of the parking deck and drive away.

I'm really nervous but also excited about this new job. I might be able to find clues on my lost childhood memories. And I'll get to help others, too. I'm nervous about not being good at this job. I hope I'll be good at it. I mean, I never thought this is what I wanted to be. But here I am, driving to my new job as a detective.

As I pull up to the building, I start to panic. I'm so nervous. However, I press on and get out of my car. I walk up the steps to the main entrance. I take a couple deep breaths and open the door. When I step inside, there's hustle and bustle everywhere. I walk up to the secretary's desk and ring the service bell. A few moments later, a tall woman with blonde hair and hazel eyes emerged from the back room. "Hi my name is Courtney, how may we help you today?" she asked. "Well I'm here because it's my first day on the job," I reply.

"Oh you must be Aleah Deere, then" Courtney implied. "Yes that's me," I say.

"Well in that case, you have a coworker named Ethan. He will be your partner for investigating. And if I'm not mistaken, he's about to head out to the north side by the woods to investigate a body, half buried in the forest. I wish you luck, Aleah!" Courtney said cheerfully. I ask multiple people their names, trying to find Ethan. After a few minutes, a guy with brown hair and deep blue eyes started walking towards me. "Are you Aleah Deere?" he asked me.

"Yes. I am," I reply.

"Alright Aleah, you are my coworker. Let's head out to the north side woods," he said.

"You certainly like to jump right into it," I say jokingly. Ethan didn't say anything in return, except for a small smile. We both get in one of the company cars and drive away.

"So, Aleah, what made you want tlo be a detective?" Ethan asked me. I don't want to share the real reason so I lie and say, "It's a complicated story that I'd rather not share at this time."

"Gottcha. Then I won't pressure you to share," he says softly.

"Why did you want to be a detective, Ethan?" I ask.

"Well when I was a little boy, both my parents were murdered and the murderer got away with it. So I swore to myself that I would get my revenge by successfully catching criminals for the rest of my life," he answered. I had no words. I feel so bad for Ethan. That's because he and I went through similar things. I didn't want to share yet though. The rest of the ride there was silent. When we got out of the car, it stunk horrendously. We went over to the crime scene. Something about these woods seem familiar, but I'm not sure from where. When I got closer to the corpse, I could tell this was an animal attack on a young girl. I started taking pictures of the evidence. Then we started picking up pieces of evidence, including what was left of the corpse for examination. We loaded up the evidence in the back of the car. When Ethan tried to start up the car, it wouldn't start or even make a sound. So now we're in the middle of a forest, not able to go anywhere. Ethan got his phone out and called Courtney to send a tow truck to get the company car and get it back to headquarters. Then I heard something moving in the undergrowth of the forest. Ethan heard it, too. So we locked the car doors. The noise got louder and louder. Then we saw a giant wolf come out of the bushes. The wolf walked over to where the body was and sniffed it. Then the wolf growled loudly and looked at us in the car. But before the wolf could get any closer, the tow truck came and scared it away. The people who were in the tow truck came and hooked our car up on the back of the tow truck. Once the car was safe and secure, we took off out of the woods and back to headquarters.
