Chapter Six

I wake up in a not so comfortable bed in a room with dim lights and the walls are stained with cherry wood varnish. That's when it hits me. I'm a werewolf. A freaking werewolf. However I still have so many questions. How did I become separated from my brother? Who is this pregnant woman and what does she have to do with Levi? Why can't I transform? So many questions, so little answers. My head is buzzing and my heart is pounding. I sit up quickly and notice Ethan in the corner sitting on an old wooden chair. "Look, you're awake. How are you feeling?" He asks.

"I'm fine but where's Levi? I have so many questions for him," I reply frantically.

"He's out hunting. Getting us some deer meat for dinner I guess,"

"Well I'm going out to hunt with him," I say.

"No. No you're not. You need to rest before we go back to work. The murder won't solve itself," Ethan says harshly.

"Well okay, I guess. I still need to get answers," I reply.

"Well that'll have to be another day. We have to get back to work," Ethan says.

"No, really. You don't understand. It'll keep me up at night until I know exactly what happened. Why are you so against us staying for dinner?" I ask sharply.

"Because, Aleah. This doesn't make sense. None of it makes any sense. You barely remember him for Christ's sake! And now you're just going to trust him all willy-nilly? What kind of sense does that make?" He yells.

"Guys, is everything okay up there?" Natalie's voice echoed up the stairs.

"Yeah. Don't worry about it," I reply loudly.

"Alright. If you say so. If you need anything, Aleah, just give me a holler," Natalie says. I scowl at Ethan and he doesn't say another word. Which probably means we're staying for dinner.

I hear Levi come in through the squeaky door. "Guys I'm back! I caught a big one too!" Levi shouts from downstairs.

"Did you already skin it hun?" Natalie asks quietly.

"I sure did. Now let's cook this sucker!" he exclaims excitedly.

"Cook it?" I inquire.

"Yeah, Aleah. Cook it. We don't eat raw meat. Don't you remember?" Levi teases me.

"I've been needing to talk to you. About all of this. Everything," I demand.

"We will. But I cannot do it with this human scum around. It's not safe. In fact, Etan why don't you go back to work? Aleah and I have some talking to do," Levi scowls.

"Oh no, I'm not leaving her. I'm her boss right now and it's my responsibility to make sure she doesn't get hurt or killed," Etan snaps. Levi scoffs. "You're pretty bold acting like a freaking mocho big man for a small fry like yourself. I advise you to step down or leave or things will get ugly," Levi threatens.

"Who are you to call me a 'small fry'? I am done being stepped on as well as belittled and this time is the last time I will allow it to happen. Come on Aleah! We're going! Now!" Ethan screams. I just sit in place and stand my ground.

"Are you serious right now? Aleah, come on!" he screams again.

"I'm staying, Ethan. I'll see you at work tomorrow. Just go before you get hurt!" I raise my voice.

"Fantastic! You clearly don't understand how much I care about you! You can say goodbye to your job, Aleah! And you can say goodbye to me, for good! Don't ever talk to me again!" Ethan screams before he slams the door and leaves.

"What was that all about, Aleah?" Levi asks.

"Don't worry about him. Now please, let us cook and eat dinner and discuss more about my past," I say quietly. I look out the back kitchen window and see Ethan's car screeching away as a werewolf follows closely behind. I hope Ethan will be okay. I think to myself.
