20 Chapter 19: The Past of the Demon Lord

You Xie sat in his study's backyard. It was today the day that he first met Fei Yan a hundred thousand years ago. He just sat there watching as the cherry blossom petals flew away.

"Milady, please come down. The master is going to get angry," cried a servant.

"No! Tell my father that if he continues to push me through those blind dates, I'm never ever going to leave this tree!" Fei Yan shouted back.

"Milady..." cried the servant.

You Xie had walked close enough to hear the commotion. He saw this pretty girl who had climbed up on a tree just to escape a blind date. He could not help but laugh.

"You! What are you laughing at," Fei Yan asked You Xie.

The servant then turned around and saw the future Demon Lord standing there contemplating their lady's tantrum.

"Esteemed prince," The servant bowed.

Fei Yan's face turned white. The guy who she had shouted at was the ruthless prince who killed all his siblings just to make sure he will get the throne.

She quickly got down of the tree and bowed.

"Esteemed prince, please forgive me for my insolence," Fei Yan said hoping to be able to save her life.

You Xie got a better look at this girl. She wore a grey and white attire instead of the dark blue or black that the other female immortals of the Demon Clan preferred. She looked plain and even a bit average in that grey attire. Most of her hair was left untied, and she had small white ribbons decorating her head. Yet, there was something in her that attracted him.

"There is no need to be so formal. Aren't you the daughter of the great General Fei?" You Xie spoke.

"Yes, esteemed prince," Fei Yan said.

You Xie then raised Fei Yan's chin up to see her face. What captivated him, were her eyes. She had stormy grey eyes.

They stood like that for a few minutes, till You Xie spoke again.

"I heard why you didn't want to go down from the tree if you don't mind me being meddlesome, I could cancel all your blind dates for you," You Xie said.

Fei Yan face glowed, "Really? Thank you so much!" She said as she smiled from ear to ear.

You Xie knew she was the girl for him. There will be no other female immortal who could be on par as Fei Yan, and one day in the future he was going to have her.

Who would have thought that in a few thousand years, he would kill the same woman he wanted so much with his own hands.

As You Xie continued reminiscing his meeting with Fei Yan, a soldier came to his study.

"Your Majesty..." the soldier bowed.

You Xie then entered his study again, closing the sliding door to the backyard.

"What is it?" You Xie asked the soldier.

"Your Majesty, Princess Ruo Yin has gone back to Kunlun Mountain with the War Deity,"

"Okay. Is that all?" You Xie asked.

"Yes, Your Majesty."

You Xie just gestured him to go out, and the soldier bowed again and went away.

He then grabbed a bottle of wine and went back to the backyard. You Xie then drank till he could think again of Fei Yan.

"Esteemed prince, Lady Fei is already here," A servant announced.

"Let her in," You Xie said.

After their first meeting, You Xie had invited Fei Yan many times to the palace. They would normally pass the day talking about anything that came to their minds.

"Greetings," Fei Yan said.

"Is there a need to be formal after all this time?" You Xie asked her.

Fei Yan then went closer to You Xie and said in a tone of voice that only he could hear, "Well, my father said that even if the future Demon Lord is my best friend, I should still be respectful. He gave me an earful last time I addressed you by your name in front of him!"

"Hahaha, come with me, there is something I want to show you," You Xie said.

They walked to where You Xie's study was.

"Are you sure, I can be here?" Fei Yan asked.

"Why not? These are not my personal chambers, and if any of them dare to ask I will just say that I needed to give you something for General Fei," You Xie said.

"Oh..."

You Xie opened the door and let Fei Yan enter. He later told her to close her eyes and to grab his hand. He guided her to the backyard where he had planted a cherry blossom garden just for her. Since cherry blossoms were her favorite tree.

"Stay here, with your eyes closed, don't peak!" You Xie ordered Fei Yan.

Fei Yan did not understand why You Xie will order her to maintain her eyes closed, but she trusted him.

"Now, open your eyes," He said.

Fei Yan then open her eyes and she saw the whole backyard full of cherry blossom petals floating everywhere. It did not even look as if they were in the Demon Clan territory anymore.

"So, what do you think?" You Xie asked.

"It's...It's beautiful!" Fei Yan said. "I can't wait to tell him!"

"Him?" You Xie felt a bit of jealousy rising.

"Yes! Didn't I tell you, there is this immortal that is training under my father," Fei Yan said.

"And between us, since we are best friends..." Fei Yan gave him that smile he adore, "I already told Father I want to marry that guy, and he had agreed."

Murderous thoughts invaded You Xie's mind. How could Fei Yan, his Fei Yan, be in love with another guy?

As his thoughts consumed him, he pushed Fei Yan to the floor, and her screams numbed his pain. Fei Yan will always be his. It did not matter if she married another guy, eventually, she will come back to him.

You Xie sat on the backyard's porch. For him, the day he met Fei Yan was the most beautiful day of his life, but also his worst. Just as this garden in his backyard.

After what he did to Fei Yan, she only told him, "You think you love me, but the only one you love is yourself! You will die alone by your own ambitions!"

He remembers how he never saw Fei Yan again till the day he killed her. He remembers how the guy that Fei Yan liked became one of his best generals when he became Demon Lord.

What surprised You Xie was discovering he had a daughter. He suspected it when he saw the same aura of cruelness as him.

"She could have never inherited it from those two," You Xie had thought, and since Fei Yan did not deny it when they met again, he knew that it was true.

After the Sky Clan subdued them in the revolt, he knows he could have made amends with the amnesiac Ruo Yin. He knows he could have put everything in the past, but when he killed Fei Yan, the last part of his heart died.

You Xie then promised to himself that he would only focus on one thing, and that was what he should have done from the start. Falling in love with Fei Yan was a mistake, one that he will never do again. He did not care about anyone anymore. He just wanted and will be the one ruling the whole universe.

But just for this day, the Demon Lord allowed himself to remember how much he had loved someone once.
