Her boring life never led her anywhere more original than what will surely happen the next day. She thought she never asked herself, but she actually forgot. The world and its mysteries will remind her of her forgotten questions and imagination, how she used to think of a diversity of different universes in the hardest way: by experiencing it.

For the moment, she deduced that she wasn't indicating anything at all, as she hadn't decided on a precise destination. For the rest, she had no other clue about the Shouk. Everything indicated that he had already travelled between universes, but her only irrefutable proof told her he hadn't. So he was an enigma to her. So he was an enigma to her.

Then there was Kio. And Hakim's words about him last night had upset her more than anything else. "He too comes from the desert". This mysterious phrase, which implied so many things without saying any of them, disturbed her. Had he come from another caravan and been abandoned like her? Or had he said it on purpose so that she would understand that Kio was a transgressor? And that he knew she was one too?
