Unending concern

*Madison POV*

I pulled up to Aurora's building and got out of my car. I stand in front of her building contemplating if I should go see her or not. Well, there's no turning back now. I'm here already.

I take two steps further away from my car and into her building. But I swiftly turned back not able to take any more steps.

I mean, why should I be the one going to her place? I did nothing wrong… Clearly. But if I did everything right, then what's the problem? I asked myself.

'She was in a bad state, you gave her a solution… offered an idea… A reasonable one too. She flared up because I wasn't freaking out like she expected I would…' As I analyze the issue to myself it still didn't make any sense, and I'm pretty sure that I look like a crazy person right now. The glares I got from a passer by were enough to justify that.

Aurora is hot headed and most times uptight and other times disinterested on how the world evolves. She's got an attitude and a short temper and no matter how close you get, you can never seem to figure her out. Just the way you can't figure life out. I remember her once telling me she was just… like life wrapped in mystery before telling me not to give myself a headache trying to figure her out.

While on the other hand, I'm everything she's not in terms of characteristics. Like right now, she asked me to get the fuck out of her place. And I'm back here… Shamelessly, still wanting to help out. I swear sometimes I feel like I have no dignity or any sense of self preservation. Most times I can't help but wonder what will happen if I don't go back to her. And other times… I dismiss the thoughts cause I have no idea what my world would be like without her in it.

Maybe, just maybe that's my excuse for always coming back and tolerating her tantrums.

Making up my mind, I grabbed my phone to quickly forward a text to her before I started heading in. I went straight for the elevator.

Getting there I was glad it had no one in it. But then I forgot I went grocery shopping and bought a few things. Since Aurora has still not finished unpacking... And I figured she still hasn't done that nor gone out to stock her fridge with snacks and food. Given what is happening to her.

On my way out of the building, I stumbled across a man that sent me almost crashing to the ground.

"Hey!" I called angrily. But he didn't even flinch nor attempt to help me up. He simply gave a side glance and went his way. I scoffed in annoyance before I helped myself up off the ground. I went over to where my car was parked in the garage and brought out the stuff I got from the passenger's seat. I texted Aurora to know about the groceries I bought. As I wait for a response I spot a woman coming down from the car just opposite from where mine was parked. My eyes widen when I realize who it was. Before I could think of hiding my face so she won't see me, our eyes came in contact and she strolled over.

"Good day, ma'am."

"How many times have I asked you to stop calling me that, it makes me feel old." The woman, Aurora's foster mother laughs.

I chuckle nervously in response.

"What have you got there?" She points at the plastic bag.

"Oh, these!" I recollect myself from my thoughts. "These are groceries, Aurora asked me to help out since she can't do it with her hands. Not like anything's wrong with them or something…" I stuttered nervously while she just gave me a look of mistrust.

"She couldn't go get them, because she is still unpacking."

"How is she still unpacking if she moved in days ago? Oh well, now that I'm here I'll help drop them off. I want to spend time alone with my daughter.

It was my turn to stare at her with suspicion

Aurora clearly told me her parents weren't aware she moved or knew where she lived for that matter. And now her mom claims to know the exact date she moved down to her apartment, I think to myself. Something isn't right.

I snap out of my thoughts when Aurora's foster mom starts trying to get the plastic bag off my hands.

"Ahh, don't worry ma'am." I pulled back "I will deliver it myself. Besides Aurora isn't feeling too well, I got her some medicine that I personally want to give to her to make sure she's okay."

Aurora's mom pulled again. "More reason I should be the one to give it to her since I am her mother and I can take care of her better."

"And I'm her best friend." I let out without thinking as I pulled the bag back to myself. "I need to know she is fine since I went out of my way to get her medicine and food."

Aurora's mom stared at me briefly before she let go. "Fine, we'll go see her together."

"Okay." I simply say putting on a tight smile. She led the way and I followed. And it was weird. For someone that hasn't been here before, she sure knows her way around.

"Have you been here before, ma'am?" I voiced my thoughts in a question.

"Well, no. But Aurora gave me a tour around the vicinity the last time we talked on a video call." came her response before she quickened her pace.

"Another lie," I mumbled to myself. At this point, I was convinced she had something up her sleeve and she just might be or know the answer to Aurora's puzzling ability.

We got to Aurora's floor in no time just to find her door already open.

'Was she expecting us?' I wondered.

We spotted a man on the floor as we made our way inside. He seemed to be regaining his consciousness. A thumping from across the room sent Aurora's mom and I looking in that direction. I recognized the man that Aurora was struggling with. He was the one that pushed me on my way to get the groceries.

With our very own eyes, we saw the light emanate from Aurora's touch sending the man to his dust. I turned to Aurora's Mom but she didn't seem shocked or even slightly surprised. She simply just stared in wonder.

"Did he just disappear into dust?" The man questioned in fright, gaining my attention. He seemed to have managed to regain his consciousness. I had a mild imagination of what put him in this state.

I was still reflecting I didn't notice Aurora's mom when she grabbed a bottle it was when she moved past me silently and it was too late to stop her when the bottle smashed the man's head, I noticed.
