Chapter 52: The wrong parts

She smiled, but it was weak. He still didn’t have the look. “You think so?” she asked, “Or are you just saying that?”

“Are you kidding?” He asked. “You’re gorgeous. You have a wonderful body and your tattoos are incredible. And add to that an incredible personality. You’re a great girl, Autumn. Any straight man would kill to go out with you.”

There it was. “Are you a straight man, Steve?”

He looked at her for a few seconds. There was emotion in his eyes, but it wasn’t love. It was sadness. “No, Autumn,” he said, “I’m not. I’m sorry.”

She took a deep breath. It didn’t hurt as much as she was afraid it was going to. Then again, it didn’t feel as good as she had hoped it would, either. Her world wasn’t shattered with sorrow or filled with joy.
