1 Stranger Danger?

Jay's POV

I really don't wanna do this today. Or tomorrow. Or any day for the for that matter. I start my first day at my new school today. Crest High School. It's my junior year so 1 year closer to graduation. If only I knew what I wanted to do with my life. It's also a month into school already, hopefully I can pick up where I left off in all my classes. Probably not math though since we always seem to be behind.

I just moved from San Francisco, California all the way to Florida. Miami, to be specific. My dad had to move for work. He got promoted and got transferred to another branch of his real estate job. And since we had to move, my mom had to transfer too. She is a homicide detective and a pretty good one. And let's just say that lying was something I got really good at over the years. Still can't lie to her though. Which is just great fun. Hopefully, I can actually make some friends. I didn't really have many back in my home town. The people at this school better be nice or I'm going back to Cali by myself. I slowly get out of bed and step over the boxes littered all over my floor. The delivery got in late yesterday so I haven't unpacked much. I have some clothes hung up in my closet but not much else. My dresser is empty except for the socks that I threw into the drawer. I do my morning beauty routine because this beautiful mug doesn't come easy. Well, partially so. It does require some upkeep though.

I come out of the bathroom and walk over to my nightstand to pick up my phone. 5:54, school starts at 7:20, I've got time. I go to my closet and pull the uniform I hung up out. I change into them and put the empty hangers back in their spot. I slide my phone into my pocket and make my way through the silent house into the kitchen. I go into the freezer and pull out 2 Eggos. I put them in the microwave because I prefer them soft over crunchy as the toaster makes them. I glare at the toaster sitting in the corner of the counter.

"You're only good for toast and pop tarts," I whisper at it. I pull my food out of the microwave and take a seat at the dining table. My phone dings which is strange because who could be texting me. I take it out of my pocket and it was texts from the group chat I have with my older brothers. They're twins. These muscular, overprotective, quote on quote "hot" guys that I am related to. They go to college in Cali and share an apartment together. They are so annoying though. When I came out to them as gay, they literally told me if a guy breaks my heart, they're gonna break him. Adam is the older one by 2 minutes. He always uses it against Mark, the other twin. Mark is a lot more sensitive than Adam. Adam can be a little aggressive, but he cares in his own way. Mark is also pansexual. He came out to me before I came out to him. He looked so scared when he told me. Like he was afraid I might just snap and yell at him or look at him differently. Of course, I did none of those and hugged him and told him that it didn't change anything. Of course, it didn't, why would it. Adam is plane Jane straight. Pretty boring in my book.

Getting back to the group chat, I open my phone to see what they're going on about.

[Collective Disappointments]

Adam: Wakey wakey little brother

Me: No thanks I'll just sleep forever

Mark: Nice try, now get up asshole

Mark: Don't be fucking RUDE!

Adam: t(-_-t)

God those people are crazy. I put my now empty plate in the sink with a small clink as the ceramic plate dings up against the metal of the sink. The clock on the stove reads 6:30 when my mom comes out of the bedroom she shares with my dad. I hear her boots clicking on the wooden floor as she makes her way to the kitchen.

"Hey honey, you sleep well?" She asked while brewing a pot of coffee. She grabs a mug from the drying rack she set up yesterday.

"Pretty good. I just got done talking to the twins." I tell her and return to my seat at the dining table.

"Oh, that's good! How are they doing?" She takes the cup from under the Keruig and adds all of her ingredients. She takes a sip and focuses her attention back on me. "They're doing fine. Just as stupid as always." I say sarcastically.

"Hey, be nice to your older brothers." She said in a joking manner. The corners of my mouth twitched into a smile. "Do you need a ride to school?"

"No, I'm gonna walk today. Actually, I should start heading out now." I run back into my room and grab my school bag off the floor. I go back to the kitchen and give my mom a small peck on the cheek. "See you later!" I unlock the front door and start my journey to school. I know the way there already so getting lost won't be a problem. And it's just a walk to school so there's nothing to worry about.

I walk in silence. The only sounds coming from the birds chirping in the trees and the few cars that pass while I walk. I was so deep in thought I didn't even notice a man running around the corner. He bumped straight into me causing me to go flying toward the ground.

"Hey-" I start. The guy scrambles off the ground and takes off running again. The black hood from his jacket concealed his appearance. The only things I could see were his light blue eyes and a sliver of his white skin. His eyes seemed to have an unnatural glow to them, but that could just be me seeing things. When he got off the ground, he dropped what looks like a journal on the floor. It was a brown, leather-bound book. It had what looks to be a lapis lazuli gemstone on the cover. It was in the shape of a teardrop and had a circle of leather straps encompassing it. The cover was littered with different designs and it has 2 clamps to keep it shut. I pick up the book and pull myself off the ground. I turn in the direction the guy was running, but he was gone. That's weird, he must've been a really fast runner to make It to the end of the street that quickly. Strange.
