The Fire

TW: Death, Gore, Self Sacrifice, Abuse

It was an average school day for students; classes were starting, and students were arriving; they could have never even imagined what would ruin this school day.

Kenji Onimaru POV:

It was early morning. My alarm had gone off about five times until I realized that I was about to be fifteen minutes late for school, and if I didn't hurry, I'd have detention for life. So I rushed out of the house, even missing breakfast in the midst of it all, to make it to the bus stop. I could have made it in time, but the bus was leaving. "WAIT!" I cried out, hoping the bus would stop, and it did. I got on the bus and went to take a seat in the back till I saw my best friend, Saiko. Saiko and I had been friends since middle school and have been inseparable. We were talking about our classmates and the exams that were coming up until Saiko asked me a question I'd never forget. "How would you feel to be Isekai'd"? Saiko asked, "Isekai'd you mean being sent to another world"? I replied. He nodded yes, and I sat and thought about it. I was more worried about why He would ask such a question when it had nothing to do with what we were talking about, but before I could answer, the bus stopped, and we made it to school.

Saiko Kuroda POV:

"WHY CAN'T YOU BE MORE LIKE YOUR BROTHERS!" My mother shouted, "MAYBE IF YOU WERE AROUND YOU'D KNOW WHY!" I shouted back at her. My father died a little after I was born. Everyone believed he would still be here if I weren't born, and they tend to say other things along those lines as well. I often get compared with my older brothers, Kaido and Keiko. Twins, but one is born five minutes before the other. For as long as I've lived, I have grown to hate my family: my mother, brothers, and even myself. SMACK! My mother slapped me right across my face. "Don't you dare ever ask me to be around you; ugh, just get to school and out of my sites," My mother said with a dirty look on her face. "Yes, Mother," I replied. I was already fifteen minutes late by then. I got to the bus stop, and it arrived three minutes later. I got onto the bus and took a seat in the back. After a few stops, I saw my best friend Kenji get on the bus. We made eye contact, and he made his way to the back of the bus. We talked about usual stuff like classmates and upcoming exams, but I had asked him a question that would shake him a bit. "How would you feel to be Isekai'd?" I asked him, "Isekai'd do you mean being sent to another world?" he replied. I nodded yes, and I watched him sit and think about it for a while, but before I could get an answer, the bus had stopped outside our school.

Kenji's POV:

After stepping off the bus, we both started walking to the school entrance. We were both late, so it didn't matter how long we took until the Student Counsel vice president approached us. "And where were the two of you when our doors opened!" she said demandingly. Naiko Hanada she's a second-year and very smart and has it out for Saiko, but the dumbass is so dense he can't take a hint. "We were on our way to class. V.P. take a chill pill." I said jokingly, "And I thought you would be a bit different, Mr. Kuroda." she said with disappointment in her voice, and I saw the look in Saiko's eyes like he wanted to slap the shit out of her, so I stepped in before someone got hurt. "If I were you, I would watch my tongue," I said in a demanding tone with the look in my eyes; she felt uneasy and let us go with a warning, and we headed to class. It was still the first period, but out of nowhere, everyone heard a loud bang, and the ground started to shake, making everyone worried. "ALL STUDENTS PLEASE EVACUATE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING. THE BUILDING IS ON FIRE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL, I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL," the staff member said over the intercom as everyone rushed out of the classroom; some were jumping out of the windows, and some even broke through classrooms to get out. Me and Saiko were calm and helping others get out; we were on our way out until someone said class E-1 was still inside and was barricaded in by burning walls. And I don't know what happened, but Saiko and I ran back inside the burning building. We risked our lives to save the people; why? Well, I don't know if it felt right; we managed to find class E-1's classroom and took some chairs to move the burning walls and got them off of the door; they all came running out and thanked us, everyone got out, and right when Saiko and I were ready to get out of there, the worst happened.

The ceiling began to come down, blocking off the only way to getting out "SHIT, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY OUT!" Saiko cried out. I looked at him and hugged him as tight as possible. "Remember what you asked me on the bus? Well, my answer was yes, and now more than ever, I hope we can be put in the same world and be crazy magic badasses and rule the adventure guild or whatever you want, man, but I don't see away from this one Sai... thank you for my friend man." I said with tears in my eyes; he grabbed my arms, hugged me back, and said, "No, thank you, Kenji Onimaru; you were the best thing I could ever ask for, and I hope I can see you again in our next life you understand don't you going dying on me." he says with a sad tone "Yeah no problem man." I said, crying. The school started to come down on us, and that was it. I have no idea what happened after that.
