7 Chapter 7

Well, this may come as a surprise to absolutely no one, but we still somehow ended up in a jail cell.

(Flashback)

Me, Gobta, and RImuru were currently in line waiting to get into Dwargon. There was a mixture of many races. Humans, lizardmen, kobolds and more. 

I was making sure to try to avoid the random mobs that would come out and harass us, but if they still did harass us, I would try to just talk them out of it (intimidate them).

'This line is so slow. I thought these things would be different in another world, but I guess not.'

"Look what we have here! A slime and a goblin."

'OH HELL NAW! Why are they still approaching us!? Do they not see the the mencaing armoured figure that can beat them senseless?' 

Rimru, looking at the people who were clearly targeting us spoke up. "Hey, I'm more than just a slime! I can easaily beat you all up!"

"Oh, look it talks! We can probably make a bunch of money selling it or something!" The rest of his group starts laughing and joins in on belittling Rimuru.

Ok, I should step in before things get more out of hand than it is. 

"Leave them alone, they are with me." I said in a serious tone telling them to drop this stupid talk.

"What are you? Some kind of knight? Why are you even standing for these weak little monsters? They'll probably just die when they get into the city."

"That's for me to deal with. I suggest you don't meddle in our affairs unless you want to see the consequences that will be brought upon you." 

"Are you threatening us!"

I may have accidentally escalated this situation instead of de-escalating it. 

"Let's fight! If I win I'll take that slime that you seem to be protective over!"

'You've got to be kidding me. How stupid is this guy? You only have some trash daggers while I have full armor as well as a sword and lance.'

"If I were you I would REALLY reconsider your train of thought at this moment." I'm trying to make this as clear as I can without, doing anything that could get the guard's attention.

"Your threats don't scare me! Come on guys, let's show her who we are!" He and his group proceeded to rush at me, with some supporters in the back. 

"Artoria! Do you need my help?" Rimuru was quick to offer help in this "fight", but it would be a waste of whatever energy he would use. 

"No need Rimuru. I won't even need to use my weapons."

I think it's safe to say that my plan to not get thrown in jail has failed, but maybe I can still talk my way out of it if I don't cause anything to happen to others in line.

Back to the guy rushing at me, I just stood there watching him run at me along with the rest of his group. 

When he does get close he starts a flurry of swings, stabs, and slices. He's not even aiming for any vital parts. His aim is at my chest and stomach, which are very clearly armored. 

I just casually dodge each of his attacks while standing in the same spot. His blade work? Trash. His footwork? Trash. His accuracy? Trash. The way that he doesn't even have a proper combat style. Trash. 

There doesn't seem to be a single redeeming quality to his "fighting".

I decided to finally go a bit of the offensive. When he was mid-swing I grabbed his wrist and applied pressure. He let out a scream of pain and he dropped the dagger. He used his other hand and I did the same thing. 

Holding both of his wrists, I pulled him towards me and proceeded to spartan kick him in the chest. I made sure to hold back my strength unless I wanted his arms to be ripped off and his upper body torn from his legs. 

He rolled around on the dirt and when he stopped he looked mad. "What are you guys doing?! Get Her!" To the other's credit, they did question whether it was a good idea to fight me or not after the whooping I just gave that guy. 

They came to a decision when an armored guy with an axe came towards me with an overhead strike. There was a mage in the back casting a fireball, an archer shooting me with an arrow, and a cleric casting a magic wall. 

I decide to attack the axe guy first. 

Going for an overhead swing was a pretty stupid move in this scenario. All firepower, but sacrificing defense. 

I waited for him to get closer and start his swing. As soon as he did, I sidestepped his attack and while his axe was stuck in the ground, I gave him a roundhouse kick to his face. He was launched all the way to the others. 

I noticed the fireball and arrow coming my way and with a swipe of my hand I got rid of the fireball, at the same time I grabbed the arrow with my other hand.

With the arrow in my hand, I threw it back at them. That little magic wall that was set up was completely broken when the arrow made contact with it. The arrow landed in front of the group and due to the force, it caused cracks in the ground that went toward them and knocked them down.

I walked slowly toward them, but before I could do anything they all ran away. So, I just decided to go back to Rimuru and Gobta. Gobta had his jaw wide open after that little scuffle.

"Wow Artoria, you made it look so easy and effortless." Rimuru spoke up for the shocked Gobta who was speechless.

"It was no problem. It was super easy, barely an inconvenience." I was going to say more, but we were interrupted by the shouts of the dwarf guards coming towards us.

"You there! Stop what you're doing!" They were shouting at us or I guess more specifically me. 

"Ok guys, let me do the talking here, I'll just explain that were only fighting out of self-defense, they'll surely let us off." I quickly explained to Rimuru and Gobta, who nodded in return. 

The dwarf guards finally met up with us. "You there in the armor! Stop you're attack! You are under arrest!"

"Wait, let me explain! Me and my group were only defending ourselves from an attack by other people! You can ask the others in line as witnesses." 

"We'll do an investigation, but you and your group will have to be in a cell until the facts are clear."

'Oh come on! What invesetigation?! All you have to do is ask like five people here and they'll all tell you the same thing! It won't even take five minutes!' I was getting a little frustrated, but if I did anything bad to them, it would go against our goal of coming here and Dwargon would look at us unfavorably.

'Damn it.'

(Flashback end)

So yeah that's what happened. Luckily I still have my armor and weapons with me. They decided to let me keep it since I wasn't doing anything bad with them. I think that isn't how being held in custody was supposed to work, but I'm not going to complain.

I'm sure they know I can easily get out of here, but I'll follow along out of respect for the rules and stuff.

Though, I'm surprised they didn't mention anything about my equipment. I thought they would have said something, but I guess they are only soldiers and don't have that blacksmith "eye" or "instiinct".

So, right now, me, Rimuru, and Gobta are just chilling in our cell. We were just talking about random stuff passing the time. Gobta fell asleep a long time ago.

"Hey RImuru I'm going to sleep. Wake me up when the guard comes over and starts talking to us."

"What no! I'll be extra bored here without someone to talk to! And she's already asleep."

"Artoria get up!"

"I'm up. I'm up, you don't have to scream at me Rimuru."

"The guard is here. Hey guard can you explain to her what you just told me?"

"Sure. Basically what happened was that they saw the slime and goblin as easy targets so that's what they attacked you. Witness statements also said you stood up for them. In short, you were in the right. We'll get you out of here shortly."

The guard was going to say more but another guard rushed in looking like an emergency was happening.

"Kaido, there's an emergency! An armorsaurus is in the mines and there are many people injured!"

"Send in the extermination squad!"

"They're on their way, but we don't have enough potions to be able to heal everyone!"

"Make it a priority to get more potions and try to get higher-ranked potions!'

Rimuru decided to speak up out loud. "Hey guys! I have some potion you can use. You can drink it or apply it directly. It's also a high-ranking potion."

Kaidou looked at the barrel full of the potion and quickly opened the prison cell and took it.

"Are you really trusting the slime?"

"We have to. We have no choice. If we don't act now, there will be deaths that could've been prevented. Take me to the injured. Quickly!"

The two guards then left with haste to save the lives of the miners. Once again leaving us alone.

"Hey Artoria, why didn't you go help them with the armorsaurus? You are super strong it shouldn't be a problem for you."

"I don't have to. They can handle it themselves."

"What do you mean?"

"It's very obvious they have encountered this problem before, well, at least an attack from an armorsaurus. Kaido said there was an extermination squad that deals with enemies like an armorsaurs. Plus, his main priority was to save lives and heal the injured. Not once did he mention anything about if they could kill the armorsaurus." 

"You got all that from those few sentences they said?"

"Well, yeah. It's not too hard. Just some simple context clues, inferencing, and analysis. I could be wrong, but based on the information I had, that's the answer I came up with. You should learn to do this too. It will be important as a leader."

"Uh…I think I'll pass on that."

I guess Great Sage is going to do the carrying on that one. It's a double-edged sword though. If he leaves everything up to Great Sage, I fear his critical thinking skills may suffer.

Well, he can just surround himself with smart people who are good at certain things they do. He can just let others do the work for him. What's the term for it? Ah yes, delegating. He can just delegate the work to others.

Well, now I wait again. That means naptime.
