11 The Journey (5)

As Azares mulled over some past events, he began to feel weird. A light bulb was constantly glimmering within the depths of his brain. Hinting him that the situation wasn't right. The air around him felt lighter but chilly at the same time. It was eerily quiet. It was like the calm before the storm.

Usually, no matter from which corner you were at, as long as you are standing in this mountain range, you will be subjected as prey. It's a crucial time for monsters to hunt in this period of time where the subjugation was held. Judging by the distance to the city was quite close, there should also be a lot of monsters roaming around.

However, don't mention a monster, Azares couldn't even see a bug.

Azares squinted his eyes warily. He started scrutinizing his surrounding. Carefully watched over everything that moves. As he did so, he was also trying his hardest to call Sylph through their link.

This guy.. when it's not dangerous he loiters around and when it got bad he disappeared in a blink of an eye.

Azares had the urge to curse Sylph. But he held back as he wasn't used yet to be on his guard. He can't afford to split his concentration.

Suddenly, the trees swayed heavily to the side. The rocks and dust on the ground were blown away to the sky. The trees were forced to parted as if to create a path.

Then a sudden gust of wind rushed over to Azares like an arrow. It was so fast that Azares failed to picture it clearly. Azares heart was pounding crazily. He was preparing to dodge when 'it' abruptly stopped in front of him.

[Hehehe. Were you scared?]

"..."

Fuck!

He almost said yes!

Very good. It just so happens that he wanted to break this contract but didn't have the excuse for it. Azares grumpily said, "You do that again and I will terminate our contract when I had the chance to."

[See if you dare try it. I will screw you!] Azares was too angry to give a response. He only threw an unhappy gaze to Sylph.

Whatever you say.

We'll see.

Sylph complained in dissatisfaction. [You were the one who called me and now you're angry. I flew here as fast as I can, you know.]

Azares acted as if he didn't hear anything. "Oh, right. This mountain is so strange."

[Why wouldn't it be?]

"What do you mean?"

Sylph didn't waste any second longer and directly manipulated the wind around Azares. He used the wind to support Azares. Once Sylph was satisfied with the result, he hurriedly turned back.

Azares was flying behind Sylph. He followed Sylph's lead and soon reached a cliff. Azares was going to say something when Sylph signaled him through the link to shut up. Curious, Azares stole a glance to the bottom of the cliff.

Then he saw an army of Orcs crowded over making a camp. Its number was so great that Azares estimated it was about one thousand. The most noticeable things were, they wore armor and carried a bow, sword, and spear with a shield.

Azares could grasp the meaning behind it with a single glance. Most likely, they wanted to wage war with Huran City. Azares expression changed.

[You didn't say it was so many!] Azares got a little fright from the number. He lived in a modern society where it was outdated to wage a war using strength. Everything relied on the economy. So this is his first time experiencing the happening of a war.

Though he was sure with his reasoning, he still asked Sylph. [Do you know what their purpose is?]

Fortunately, Sylph had investigated it before due to his curiosity. In a proud tone, he exclaimed. [Of course!]

[I dove right through their line and mingled with them. Well since nobody can see me, it was especially easy.]

[There was a general at the biggest tent. He was pretty big, although he looked really hideous.]

Azares automatically ignore his last words. His eyes showed that Sylph better got to the point before Azares strangled him.

[I heard they want to plunder the city and destroy the city's gate.]

[What else?]

Sylph's reluctantly reported everything. [They will do it when the subjugation team was busy dealing with monsters.]

Hearing the word 'monster' had Azares gain an epiphany. [Did they have anything to do with the monsters? Is it because of them that the mountain was so desolate?]

[It is. But it's not like how imagined it to be.]

[The monsters were busy keeping an eye on them.]

Azares eyebrows shot up. [To eat?]

[Right.] Sylph nodded lightly.

Azares laid on the ground to avoid being discovered while thinking about what to do next.

Ever since he came to this world, he had spent a lot of time in the study to learn more about this place. The topography, geography, history, and many more. Whatever Azares deemed essential, he would read them all. One of them is a book about a monster's race who had intelligence.

Orc, Ogre, Threant, Beast people, Elves, and many other kinds he had never seen before in real life were classified as races of monsters with intelligence. Different from an ordinary monster who only has their instinct of survival and desire for copulation.

These races had always been hidden in their own territory without bothering the humans. Previously, it was stated to be like that because these races and humans had never seen an eye for an eye. So it was truly difficult to do trade and work together.

For the Orcs to come this far, there must be some kind of back story. Nevertheless, Azares assumed the possibility to withdraw was small, seeing how thoroughly prepared they were. This army's next move should be a surprise attack.

Azares wasn't a saint. If he could help, he will. However, it wasn't clear yet what the roots of the problem were. He didn't want to poke only to get bitten.

He could pretend to be blind, but his stay in Huran City will be disastrous. It would hinder the plan he had meticulously made.

Fight or not?

Probably because the usage of their link had been going on, Sylph could tell what Azares thinking about. He coated his words with sugar, [We should kill them before they reach the city.]

[They were the ones who deliver themselves to our doorstep. You should appreciate it right?]

Azares closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them again, there was a tinge of determination in his eyes.

"Alright."

"Slaughter them."

In this kind of world, you can't be so weak-hearted.

He mustn't get trampled to death.
