Dan was looking forward to his awakening. After being reborn in this world he always anticipated his eventual awakening. There was only less than ten percent of the population of human race who can awaken. Of course Dan had a very high hope in this regard. He hunted and trained, picked herbs and concocted medicine. all in all, he did what he could. Yes, his resources was limited in this rural village with poor villagers living in.

So the day of awakening arrived.

he strode toward the center of village from his one man cabin. When he reached there were 5 another young , boys and girls, waiting with gleams in their eyes.

'Its pitiful. Such a predetermined fate for those who can't awaken. Forever being a second class being.' He sighed with a bit melancholy.

One must be in the age of nine to attempt awakening. At the longest day of the year, people of this world would gather and pray to their different gods. He didn't knew if the gods were real or not but people associated this phenomena, awakening, with gods.

'A typical "I don't understand so gods did it." Excuse.' He thought.

He then noticed two beautiful orb of blue in his peripheral.

"Hi Aurora! How are you? Did you come to see me getting some awesome ability?"

Dan asked the beastgirl, Aurora.

Aurora was two years older than him and was from a race called "Silvermist". She was Dan's only childhood friend he was comfortable with, and Dan secretly chose her as his future wife. She was also unsuccessful in awakening and currently helps her parents concoct different medicines.

She had two fox ears at the top of her head, and her hair was long and, like her ears, silver in color. By Dan's standards, she was a total beauty.

"Haha. Who said I came here for you?" she chuckled as Dan hugged her.

"Hmph. Just wait. I will awaken and become some big shot, then I will marry you." Dan just expressed his intentions under the veil of his childish appearance and way of talking.

Aurora blushed and averted her eyes. As a member of the beastfolk, she was quite mature despite her age, so naturally, she understood his words.

"Silly boy."

After a bit of chatter here and there, the time came. Anticipation rose as the sun climbed higher and higher in the sky. The whole ceremony would continue until the sun set. Those who awaken when the sun is at its highest point would have high-quality abilities, while those who had to wait until the end of the ceremony would have the lowest ones.

'Either of them is fine.' Dan thought as he believed there was no useless ability, only useless users.

As time passed and sun moved farther and farther from center of sky his flames of anticipation gradually dimmed, a coldness pierced his heart and bones—a lurking doubt. In the evening, someone, a beastfolk, finally awakened. The rabbit boy was having the time of his life when he awakened and shouted, "Haha. I can now run without getting caught," revealing the speed-based nature of the ability.

'Cheeky brat with terrible character.' He didn't have a good impression of him. ' Truly irrelevant to being a productive person or a scumbag.'

Time passed as the remaining five continued their ceremony like devoted believers in gods. Soon, the coldness intensified when red light painted the sky. 'Why? Being reborn in some world with my memories intact, then no opportunity? No cheating power? No adventure?'

He was lost in thought as the light in his eyes dimmed. When he was brought out of his reverie, he only sensed a soft body hugging him. The central ground of village was empty and sky was dark, with only stars looming over head. It was a moonless night. Some stars emitting red and blue lights.

"It's okay, Dan." The silver-haired beauty spoke in a soothing voice.

"You still have me."

.........

Dan was an orphan. His parents apparently left him here in the village elder's care. He couldn't remember their face or voice; he was too young for that, and most of the time he was asleep, only to wake up and find himself in a hazy world.

When he grew up, he became friends with Aurora. A beastgirl. It seemed the country he lived in was multiracial, with princes and princesses of different races.

So a village like Springstep was normal.

He didn't complain about most things and had a good reputation. In this manner, he learned about hunting and medicine-making. Aurora's parents were good enough to teach him these skills.

As for ability, only the village elder's son, a middle-aged human, had one in the whole village. And it was just a danger-sensing ability. As for the others, they had moved out to different cities.

Actually, the rabbit boy's ability was the greatest ability found in the village in the past decade, and yet it was only a mid-grade one.

After the ceremony, Dan was depressed, but with the help of Aurora, he recovered. Although there were records of people awakening after their chance, Dan wouldn't hold on to this near impossible hope. For him now, practicality mattered most.

After 3 years, fate bared its fangs at them once again. Aurora's parent and only real relative of Dan perished in jungle together. This incident devastated Aurora.

Normally the woods near the village weren't dangerous but some low level Beast, an awakened animal, would roam from time to time. And one of such creatures killed the couple. What was left from them was only a pendant as a family heirloom and some pieces of their bodies.

Dan mourned. yet he knew Aurora needs him so with his mature mind he focused on his friend. He often was at their house, using their tools to make medicine or picking herbs around the village. Aurora also felt more distant than usual, yet he tried hard until she laughed again.

It was 3 years later that he confessed his love to Aurora.

"Rora, from the beginning till now I saw nothing more beautiful than you." Although people of this world were handsome and Aurora considered only an average beauty he meant his words.

"I have nothing except my skill in calculating, medicine making , identifying herbs. But all of these are meaningless if you don't be with me."

"So please agree to be the love of my life." He said with a flushed face.

She looked at sky seemingly lost in thoughts and after minutes standing in the middle of the garden. She said "do you love me?"

"Yes . More than anything."

"So you would give me your every thing? Even…. Your life?"

Dan was dumbfounded about her question. It was too blunt, yet he only hesitated for seconds and replied "yes."

'After all I died once living for nothing. I love her and there is nothing for me besides her. So dying for my everything is better than living for nothing.' He thought.

" Go think about it. after I asked you this question again then answer me…"

She left without any further words. Usually speaking, girls specially beastfolk, would be married at her age and given she did not marry anybody, Dan knew she too wanted him as her lifetime partner.

At the next six months she distanced herself more but Dan, although confused, didn't give up and once in a while would confess his love to her again.

In a windy day, Dan was resting with his back leaned against old bark of a tree. Scenery was magical with hills and swaying grasses in his view some birds flying up in the sky.

A figure with silver head slowly approached in his periphery. He noticed her but waited her to show up. Soon she stood in front of him. Her hair had a beautiful luster and her ears were sharp. She had above average breasts which was contained in her modest plain white dress. She was tall and her furry tail swayed in wind.

"Its a good scenery right? Good to print in our memories." Dan said breaking the silence.

"Yeah… I hope it doesn't become a ruined memory." Her murmurs seemed to lost in wind.

"So why did you come here? If its about old man's order of purchase .."

She shook her head and kneel beside him. Dan slightly tensed, he didn't know but she seemed different today. Some melancholy could be seen in her eyes as she looked at him.

"Rora?" he asked concernedly.

"Do you remember when you proposed to me?"

Her question caught him off guard at the same time his heart started beating fast. 'Is she gonna reject me?' his thoughts wandered.

"I said I am going to ask the question again. So…"

" Do you love me enough to give up your life?" she said as slight emotion appeared in her cold beautiful blue eyes.

"Ahh. You are scaring me Rora…"

"Do you?" she asked sternly.

'She is serious. Well these months I thought about it but my mind didn't changed.' With his resolved he said "yes. For the life without you is no different from death."

Dan said as he felt a searing pain appeared in his left shoulder, he pulled his tunic aside to reveal his shoulder but couldn't find anything. the pain was unbearable when he screamed.

"Ahhhh…"

Aurora's eyes were wide as a saucers as she squat down and held the wriggling Dan.

She then whispered "Thank you. For my life is for your love. I love you with my everything and nothing can separate us." She said as she dug her fangs on his shoulder.

Dan's eyes rolled back in his head as he fainted.
