8 Birthday Surprise

A few months later I'm woken up one morning by my adorable sister Eve. " brother wake up , c'mon wake up it's important." I roll over and see my sister who is still in her pajamas and has messy hair from just waking up herself with an adorably large smile on her face. "Yes Eve,"I say while smiling back at her. "I wanted to be the first to wish you happy Birthday, so happy birthday Luke. Here I made this for you myself." I look at her hands now seeing a highly decorated piece of paper. It's a crudely drawn picture but I can make it out. It's of me and her holding hands in the backyard surrounded by my father's Pokemon, with the words happy birthday written across it and covered in sprinkles. "Thank you so much Eve, I love it." I tell her has I place a kiss on the top of her head and give her a hug. Much to her delight and I hear her giggle your welcome. "Let's go downstairs and see if mom or dad is awake and get breakfast." I say as her and I get out of my bed and go down stairs.

When we arrive the all to familiar smell of Pecha pancakes fills the air . As I my mother humming to herself while flipping the pancakes and my father sitting at the table drinking coffee. I say good morning as I enter the room and sit at the table. My sister following suit and copying my actions. Only somehow she seems to have found Sunshine and is currently hugging and petting the large cat, who is purring contently. Now that we are older and there is no fear of us pulling his tale or accidentally causing him pain while trying to play with him . Sunshine gets to spend his time out of his ball and lounging around the house. Only leaving when my father has to go to work.

"Good morning you two, and happy birthday Lucas." My mother greats us back as my father sets down his morning paper and adds. "Yes good morning and happy birthday my boy. We have a special day planned for you and a big surprise gift for your birthday. So hurry up and eat the delicious breakfast your mother has made you." My sister and I both nod and eat the breakfast where each bite you can taste the love. After finishing we thank my mother and rush up stairs to get dressed as we are going to leave the house shortly. I'm ecstatic I have a rough idea of what's planned for the day and I hope I'm right.

After brushing my teeth and my hair and getting dressed I rush back down stairs . The rest of my family is ready so my father opens the door and ushers us out side. Surprisingly we didnt head to his car so now I'm a little confused. The confusion only grew as after my father made a phone call an older man with a Hypno suddenly appeared. Shocked at the development I looked to my father for an explanation. "This is an old friend of mine John who owes me and has agreed to do me a favor." I look back at the man and Hypno and scan it with my eyes. What I saw left me gobsmacked.

( yes I know I didn't put abilities on his fathers pokemon but yes his eyes were always intended to be able to do this as well I just forgot to do the others becuase they weren't important to the story. I also forgot the Hypno until later in the chapter and came back to edit it and add this note )

Looking at my face John chuckled "Based on that face it seems your father wasn't lying when he said you had a gift to sense the ability of a Pokemon." At this statement I looked at my father who just smiled and patted my back reassuringly. " It's ok son I trust John with my life he has been my best friend since I was younger than you and I had to tell him in order to arrange the surprise." I just nodded but my face must have shown my confusion, becuase John quickly added. "It will be easier to undrestand after we teleport, and your parents tell you the big surprise." At his words quickly stepped forward withmy father as my mother who is hold my sister in her arms follows suit.

Teleporting was a weird sensation the absolute feeling of emptiness or nothingness before reappearing in a big city. It was so quick but I'll never forget the sensation. After a moment John looked at my father and said "Alright Will I'll see you guys later I have a few more things to do on my end." My father nodded and shook his hand before the man disappeared again. Turning back to us he said alright let's catch a taxi to the market.

Arriving at the market I was still curious about John and what he and my father seemed to be upto. I looked at my mother who was holding Eves hand and pointing out everything interesting to my sister. She didn't seemed bothered at all by what happened earlier so she must be in on it too at least. This gave me some reliefs as no way would my mother let anything that had a chance of something remotely bad happen to me occur. After walking some minutes we finally arrived at the destination I had a feeling we would visit today, an egg store. After being greated at the door the sales associate asked my father if we were looking for anything in particular. My dad points to me and told him I'm in charge as it's my 8th birthday. The sales woman looked at me knowingly, becuase in this world 8 is the age one can register for trainer school and there by be allowed to have there very own Pokemon. " Well there little guy do you have any Pokemon in particular you want or do you want to look around and see what catches your eye." I obviously had a Pokemon in mind who didn't have a few favorite Pokemon but becuase of my gift I new it would be dumb to limit my options not with how important potential was. Besides I'm sure I could find at least 1 Pokemon that has good potential that is also one of my favorites. "I'd like to look around." I told her has my parents smiled knowing what I was planning.

As we wondered the store i activated my eyes. doing tests with my father when i was younger we discover I could also see the potential and ability of eggs. I couldn't see anything else but that was becuase the Pokemon had no lvl or stats at this point, but this was more than enough. As I perused the store with my family my sister had run up to hold my hand and help me find a good egg. I started the search in the Zubat section. I always loved Crobat and it was the epitome of a extremely fast hard hitting Pokemon that I planed to build my style of battle around.

See eggs in this world weren't categorized by potential becuase there was no way to test it currently available in this world. So they priced them based off the average potential of the species as a whole and the rarity and strength of the Pokemon . Zubat as a species had a lower end potential average being orange and were a very abundant pokemon making their eggs on the cheaper side . After looking over a couple dozen eggs I unfortunately couldn't find one better than dark orange. Unfortunate but it's alright this isn't the only store in town and I don't need to get a Zubat today becuase I know I will get one someday up to my standards of that I can guarantee. But I refuse to leave with anything less than yellow becuase to me yellow will be the basic requirement for any pokem I train. I know that yellow potential pokemon wasn't special to others. But to me that's all I needed. Know what I know in this world and a secret to upraise potential reliably I could get any yellow potential Pokemon to at least light blue it would just take a lot of hard work and time but I can guarantee it will happen.

Next I headed to the Eevee section much to my sisters and mothers delight. "Yes big brother you should get an Eevee they are so cute and Sunshine could be like his big brother." "I agree with your sister Eevee are very good starter pokemon they give you adaptability by having so many option to evolve into and they are very easy to train." Myself and my father just smiled at their combined outburst. It was obvious the real reason they wanted my to get one was so they could cuddle and hug it as much as possible. "Though I think they may have ulterior motives. Your mother is not wrong Eevee are a very good choice and they will have many eggs in stock due to how popular they are as Pokemon." "I know, but I only plan on getting the best Pokemon possible today to take advantage of my eyes" my father nodded and patted my back at my statement happy how serious I was taking it. My mother and sister however both wore a slight pout clearly not happy that I may not be getting an Eevee. After maybe 20/30 Eevee eggs my eyes widened as I looked at on the top right section of the shelf.

I knew that I needed this egg. Not only was its potential much higher than the average orange, but it had a unique ability. Though not un heard off unique abilities were extremely rare and all of them gave huge advantages to the individual pokemon there was no such thing as a bad unique ability. Seeing my expression my mom smiled knowing she would get to fawn over the Eevee. My Dad asked " See one you like" smirking knowing it must be good. I just nodded saying "you have no idea." Hearing my words both my parents looked at each other excitedly knowing this Eevee must indeed be special. My sister not knowing anything about the situation still looked the happiest cheering " yay I love Eevee there so cute." What made me the happiest was one of my favorite Pokemon has always been Umbreon and I planned to get one since my future team would definitely need a dark type considering at least 2 more future team member will be week to phychic types.

My father went to get an a worker to help get us situated so we could pay for the egg and leave. When he was gone I heard a shout followed by a thud. Turning around I see that someone fell into the shelf near us. As I watched I saw an egg on the edge wobble and start to fall. I dashed over as quickly as possible to save the egg and as I dive I made it just in time to catch the egg in my hand. What I saw took my breath away.

Now I didn't know what to do this Manley was arguably just as good if not better than the Eevee. Plus I good see its attack stat even though it hasn't hatched. Plus the whole situation screamed destiny.could I really just ignore that . Which one will I choose
