54 A Broken Faith!

Ren made a Ram seal and sensed that no one was inside, his senses were clearly suppressed in the room but at least he was sure that no one was around "It's clear, no one is in there..."
'...at least no one alive is in there' Ren thought as he followed Kakashi into the room, his eyes were scanning the room already counting the number of skulls he could see on the platform.
Ren walked in behind Kakashi and looked at the eerie atmosphere of the room, he felt a sense of suppression as he looked around. The hidden room that he was pretty sure was used for a malicious ritual had a simple infrastructure, the platform on which they were walking was like a stair that was leading to the central more important platform.
The area surrounding the raised platform was like a pit and at both sides of the room were two small rooms that had a closed door. A skeleton was nailed to the wall just opposite the entrance to the room and while all the other bones in the pits looked like they had been decaying, the skeleton looked to be in perfect condition.
The spear that was pinning it to the wall was pitch black in color, the sense of oppression increased as Ren walked close to the spear and used {Observe} on it.

Ren read the box and then stared at the pitch-black spear that was struck into the wall and then his gaze shifted to the skeleton that was pinned to the wall, he then used {Observe} on the skeleton but it didn't go in the direction he was expecting.

'What just happened here...' Ren closed the blocks that were blocking his vision and then stared at the unblemished bones that were pinned to the wall.
'God... is there really something akin to 'Kami' in the world...' Ren thought as he looked at the pitch-black spear in confusion. As an orphan Ren didn't believe in abstract beliefs like destiny or Kami, a god above all wouldn't care for anyone like he doesn't care about what the ants or bugs are doing unless they annoy him.
'But in the quest, it clearly says that a God, maybe a sadistic one but a god still exists...' Ren looked at the pitch-black spear, it was supposedly a weapon only a God's chosen could wield.
As soon as the desire to test the spear appeared in his mind Ren backed away from the spear, the sense of oppression that he was feeling reduced as soon as he stepped away so he jumped back on the platform and carefully looked at the spear.
A block appeared in front of him once again making him realize that there really was something wrong with that spear.

"Ren you okay?" Hayate asked as both Kakashi and Sasuke arrived beside him, while Hayate checked on him Kakashi and Sasuke stared in fascination as a small amount of chakra was flowing through the metal spear.
"Careful that thing has a genjutsu applied on it," Ren warned making Kakashi nod, he stared at the 'living spear' for a while before he nodded, "Sasuke back away I'll seal the spear and bring it away."
All three of them except Kakshi backed onto the circular platform once again, Kakashi took out a scroll from his pouch and grabbed the spear. Ren was ready to jump just in case Kakashi needed to be pulled back but he simply placed the scroll on the ground and then placed the spear on it then sealed it into the scroll.

'That was anti-climatic,' Ren sighed as the sense of oppression he was feeling vanished. That spear was not normal but it wasn't his problem now, he looked around and didn't find anything more interesting in the central room so he looked towards the two locked rooms.
'Left or right?'
Ren walked to the closest room and selected the left door, he lifted his sword just in case and kicked the door open. A puff of dust emerged from the room that Ren dodged lightly as he scanned the room.
The entire room looked like a mad scientist's storage room, there were various plants suspended in medicinal jars in the room along with a table that had multiple scrolls neatly stacked in one corner. Ren walked into the room and picked up the first scroll he could see.

'Nevermind, forget about the genius scientist... did they really sacrifice 173 people...' Ren felt a little nauseous at the thought of killing that many people due to a 'God'.
Ren walked out of the room and asked, "Hayate sensei, can you estimate how many people are in that pit, we can't actually store all of them in scrolls?"
It was Sasuke of all people who answered, "196..." his voice was a hoarse whisper, that caught all of their attention. The tomoe's in Sasuke's Sharingan were swirling as he looked at the huge number of skeletons that were discarded inside the pit. His vision was flashing as his Sharingan immediately began to dig into the memories that his mind had once forgotten.
Kakashi watched as one of the tomoe in Sasuke's right eye slowly replicated itself mid-swirl and he realized that the situation was bad, "Sasuke," Kakashi spoke sternly getting the last Uchiha from his daze he looked at everyone and the memories faded at the back of his mind.
"I'm fine," Sasuke replied as he nodded but judging from his pale face Kakashi was sure he was anything but fine.
"Hayate collect everything that you deem necessary, Sasuke come on we'll recollect with Naruto on Hinata and plan for the mission ahead." Kakashi spoke before he turned to Hayate and spoke, "We'll go back to the village and start tracking the missing villagers since they weren't here and I doubt the bandits would have been able to get into this room..."
Hayate nodded and the two teams went in different directions. Kakashi and Sasuke left through the hole and after waiting for a couple of seconds Ren threw the scroll he found to Hayate sensei.
"Store all the scrolls and documents you can find in your storage space and the rest in storage scrolls, this place seems a bit weird so any and all information would help the cryptology department crack the codes," Hayate spoke before he opened the scroll and began reading.
Ren went back into the room and started chucking scrolls and books into his inventory, both of them took the next 15 minutes to rummage through the whole room before they left the hole. Hayate sensei left the room first and then he began searching for clues around the cave if any of the villagers were kept active there.
"Let's go, Ren, there are no obvious signs of any civilians being held active here," Hayate spoke and they both left the cave, as soon as they came out Ren sensed a large chakra spike from above them.
"Attack," Ren shouted as he flickered away, a leopard made of black lightning collided with the ground as Hayate and Ren got separated in different directions.
Ren turned back to look at the bright red text floating above Darui's head.

Ren's hands morphed into the trigger seal as he launched a powered-up Great Fireball Jutsu straight at him.

AN- I have been struggling with migraines during this month, and according to doctors' orders, I have reduced the amount of time I stare at the computer screen. All in all the schedule isn't actually fixed, 1 chapter will be released every other day from now on. At least for the next month...
