1 Goddess Circe

The view was beautiful. There were rows of flowers surrounding the place. It was a meadow with trees and flowers all around. Birds were chirping and bees were buzzing around the flower in search of nectar. There was a small stream flowing in the meadow of the Aeaea island, the only place that she can call her home.

There was a dainty girl sitting on the ground in the middle of the meadow. There was a small smile grazing her thin, pink lips. She was watching the birds flying freely in the air, chasing each other even competing with the wind. She felt envious of them, of their free nature.

Just then a hawk came flying down in speed. He began attacking the small birds.

The girl frowned. Even her frown looked pretty.

She saw a small bird getting attacked by the hawk. He fell down on the floor. He struggled to fly, to save his life from the hawk, but it failed. He might have broken his wings. The girl rushed towards the little bird. To save him from the hawk but collided by a wall, a glass wall.

She looked around her and came back to reality.

Yes, she was never free. She had been trapped inside the glass cage her whole life. This was the cage to protect the fellow Gods and Goddesses from her. From her powers.

She was one of the strongest Goddess of Athens. A goddess born from Helios, the Sun God, and Hecate, the goddess who is variously associated with crossroads, entrance-ways, night, light, magic, witchcraft, knowledge of herbs and poisonous plants, ghosts, necromancy, and sorcery. She is the Titan goddess of great honor with domains in the sky, earth, and sea.

She had inherited both her mother's and her father's powers, making her the most powerful god that has ever existed.

As she started growing up, her powers started growing too, making it difficult for her to control. Because of her fluctuating emotions, she would sometimes lose control of her power making everybody suffer around her.

She watched the hawk tearing the fleshes of the little bird's body and just like a broken dam, her powers unintentionally started leaking from her body, coiling around her hands. It was like havoc was created in the space inside the glass walls. The air around her turned black with fire, water, earth, electric sparks, and other elements revolving around her in a distorted manner.

"Circe!!"

Someone shouted and a woman wearing a chaplet around her head holding a pair of torches, a key, serpents, and daggers. and a dog by her side approached her.

Circe's powers stabilize when she found her mother goddess Hecate in front of her. The air around her stilled as if the signs of havoc was just an imagination.

"Mother!" Circe exclaimed in excitation but she soon realized her mistake. She looked down at the now burnt grasses and flowers which were present around her.

Hecate clenched her jaws and said, "You are becoming more powerful day by day. I don't know for how long I will be able to hold you inside these glass walls. Why don't you try to control your powers? Why do you let it control you?"

Hecate sighed and said, "You are becoming a danger to all of us. I don't know what lies in your fate?"

Circe remained silent. This was not the first time she had heard someone speaking to her cruelly. She had her fair shares of other's vicious traps and cruelty. If she had been given a choice, she would have chosen to live freely like the rest of them. Whether being mortal or immortal or having powers, wouldn't have mattered that much.

In short, if she had been given a chance, she would have traded her immorality and her powers for a life without cages and punishments. Unlike others, her fates were written in the hands of her fellow gods and goddesses. She knew they fear her, if not, they envy her. And they would do anything in their power to destroy her, to make her disappear from the universe.

It is that they fear her father and mother, so they are not taking any extreme measures. But Circe knew that they are waiting. They are waiting for her to do any mistake. A slip of her power and har fate would be sealed.

"You don't have to be so hard on her. She is just a child." A lady with sandy brown hair wearing green Egyptian robes approached them.

"Gaia!" both of them greeted her.

"Her fate will never lie in their hands". She said pointing at Circe.

I have something for her, something that will make her able to control her powers."

"What is it?" Circe asked excitedly.

"A life of a mortal," Gaia said making Hecate frown and Circe confused.

Gaia laughed and said, "I can give you a life similar to a mortal. An upbringing similar to a mortal. You will never know your past, your future, and your true existence. All you have to do is to lead a normal life. Can you do it?"

Circe nodded in excitement. She never wanted her powers to begin with. All she ever wanted was to live freely. Whether it a free life of mortals or immortals, it doesn't really matter to her.

Gaia asked Hecate to remove the glass walls.

As the walls were removed, strong winds started blowing as if they wanted to uproot everything in their way.

"Do fast, I can't control it for much longer," Hecate shouted at the top of her lungs and started manipulating the air to calm it down. But to her horror, the winds became more violent and the sky started turning black.

"Circe control your powers!" Hecate shouted.

"I am trying mother," Circe answered. But instead of controlling it, it became more destructive.

Hecate looked at Gaia who was busy chanting some rituals. Her feet seemed as if it was glued to the ground.

Gaia opened her eyes at the end of her ritual and just then Circe plopped on the ground. The air around them began still and a white ray of light exited from Circe's body and entered inside Gaia.

"Is this necessary?" Hecate questioned sadly.

"You know better than anyone else that this is necessary. Circe is meant for something great not for this cage." Gaia answered.

"I know. But she is my baby. My heart breaks knowing the struggles she has to face." Hecate replied and a drop of tear escaped her eyes.

"She has to do this. It's her fate. And of course, she will have you and Helios as her protector." Gaia answered and vanished into thin air leaving Hecate in her thoughts.
