9 Something Called "Systema"

In the middle of the road, Rainn looks at the translucent writing in front of him. He looked around to see if anyone else sees this. But nobody seems to notice anything.

'Is this just for me? Only me can see it?' Rainn thought.

'Yes, only you can see this.' The mysterious voice he heard when in the place of light replied. Rainn startled.

Then he decided to start walking to avoid suspicion from people around.

'Okay, what's the meaning of this?' Rain asked.

'It's the power of Systema. Just think about it as a bunch of statistics that explain your current state,' answered the voice.

'What do I do about it?'

'What you see now is the stats window. By this, you can see how much you progress and how long before you get to the next stage. You can access that window just by thinking about it,' The voice explains.

So far, it's clear enough for Rainn. Although, still a lot of things he didn't understand.

'Okay, what would I do to improve myself?' Rain asked the most important question for him.

'You should say it like 'how to improve my stats'. See, your stats is the information about yourself,' answered the voice. Rainn started to get annoyed.

'Okay whatever, then what should I do?'

'There's something called Quest. If you finished it, you are given the Exp point. Which is used to level up.'

Rainn looked at the status window again. He can see there is something called level and Exp.

Rainn maybe not be smart, but he can understand what the voice was saying right now.

So basically, he can be stronger if he improves that "Level" thing by filling the "Exp" thing. And the "Quest" thing is something he should do to obtain that Exp.

'Exactly,' said the voice suddenly.

'You read my mind?' Rainn feels like his privacy is compromised.

'I'm lived in your mind.'

Rainn sighed, 'Can't you just go?'

'And who's gonna explain everything to you? Believe me, I don't wanna be here either. But I'm obliged to be here and be your guide. Because this world seems like it doesn't have any clue about this kind of power,' the voice explained with slight annoyance.

Rainn realizes he--or she--does have a point.

'Okay then. What should I call you? Cause we will be together for a while.' Rainn said.

'Call me Tut,' the voice answered.

'Tut?' Rainn feels that the name is kinda funny. 'Okay, Tut. What is this Quest you would give to me right now?'

Suddenly, another translucent page and writing appeared beside the stats column.

[ Daily Quest: Do 1000 push-ups before the sunset ]

Rainn stopped in in place.

"WHAT?!"

'There you go,' Tut said, nonchalantly.

'Why 1000? I only do like 100 until now,'

'That's why you have to improve your number.' Tut said.

'One thousand is too fucking many!' Rainn still can't grasp that number in front of him.

'If you want to be strong then you have to do it. If not there are some consequences.' Tut gives him a clear remark.

Rainn gritted his teeth. It's never been easy for him. So he never hoped that this power would just give him the powerful power with the easy way either.

He has to earn it. At least now Rainn has something similar to a 'mentor' that can give him a guide about what to do.

"Alright, let's get started," Rainn said. This time out loud. "Fortunately, this day is weekend so there's no school."

Rainn started to walk faster. His home is a little far from the main city gate. He could arrive faster if he accept Vyra's offer. But he can't.

Rainn then begins to jog. The sun's getting higher. Warm ray shining his face. Rainn feels a little hope in his life.

With this power, the ancient heroes were able to win the war against Vampires as Werewolves. So this is must be a very strong power.

But, looks like this power won't just come to his hand easily. He needs to earn it.

But it doesn't matter. Rainn just has to do it.

Finally, he arrived home. After pushing his door Rainn drops himself at the mattress.

The lazy feeling almost makes him sleep immediately. So, before he falls asleep Rainn gets up and takes off his shirt.

Rainn began to do push-ups. For one thousand times.

But he dropped after the count 120. Rainn's breaking heavily.

'You still have much time. The deadline for the daily quest is sunset,' Tut says abruptly.

"If I finish this quickly, can I get more?" Asked Rainn.

'If you want to.'

Rainn didn't say anything afterward. He just continues to do push-ups.

'Why are you so eager?'

"I wanna be strong," Rainn said in between his heavy breath.

'Hmm, okay. I understand that.'

Rainn remember that Tut was living inside his head. So he basically knows what happen to him so far. What is his reason to be so eager?

Rainn keeps going nonstop until he reached the number 997.

'Ughh... Three more..."

It feels like his arm is falling off. His muscle may be shredded to pieces right now.

Then finally after what feels so long, Rainn can reach one thousand push-ups.

"Ahhh..." He dropped to the floor. Drowning in his sweat. He's so tired right now.

[ Reward: 20 Exp ( First time ) ]

The translucent writing appeared again. It's starting to feel like a notification from the hunter group in his chat app.

'You did it,' said Tut. 'For the first time completion, you got double Exp and additional reward.'

"Yeah... It seems so." Rainn replied tiredly.

'Now, you can check your reward for completing the Quest in a place called Inventory.'

"Inventory? It's like the storage, right?"

'Yeah, you right.'

"I know that much."

'Just like before. You can access this power just by thinking about it.'

"Okay, I understand now."

Rainn flips his body looking up. Then think about the Inventory.

Translucent writing like before appeared, and Rainn can see the empty square lining. Except for one.

It's a miniature of a simple ring. White in color like it is made from silver. Rainn just thinking about taking it and then the ring appear floating in front of his eyes.

'What is this ring?' Rainn thought. Then he got the answer immediately.

[ Effect: Plus 20 MP point ]

Rainn thinks that the effect of the item is pretty good because it's added one of his stats. But Rainn still didn't know what the meaning of MP was.

'Hey, what is MP?' So Rainn asked Tut.

'It's a magic power.' Tut answered immediately.

'Magic? What is magic?'

[ New Quest! ]

Rainn was startled because of the sudden notification.

[ A murder has happened. Investigate and find the murderer ]

[ Time limit: one week ]
