The Super Mech System

As humans conquered the solar system, faster than light travel became a sought after ability to facilitate humanity’s expansion. However, upon achieving this, humans accidentally formed rips in space-time that opened up special Pocket Realms. These realms housed special planets similar to Earth, but they possessed hostile environments and dangerous, supernatural beasts with special abilities. Within each beast was a special crystal and as humans harvested these crystals, they utilised its special properties to construct the special synthetic life-form known as the ‘mech’. These mechs were nanotechnology suits, that bonded to a human host and acted as a thin, highly useful suit when activated. Technology advanced at rapid pace following this discovery, as mechs could provide humans with oxygen in low oxygen environments, heal injuries, amplify speed and strength by hundreds of times and much more. Humans soon created the genetic score that represented how easily a mech would bond to them as a host and how effective that symbiotic relationship would be. Those with higher genetic scores were lauded and rewarded for their talents, while those who weren’t as lucky were forced to settle at the bottom of society. Born into a small, working-class family, Alonso was born with an appalling genetic score of 0.11. As a result, he lived on mech-less, even past the Mech Adoption Age of 14, because it was too dangerous to let his body bond to a mech. However, he, gains a unique power, the super mech system. No longer powerless, he can now accomplish his dream of becoming a mech combatant! Although, he must navigate the challenges and obstacles of the insanely competitive mech combatant academy.

However, the students continued to talk down on Alonso for his weakness. It was especially those near the middle or lower area of the social hierarchy. After constantly being maltreated by those above them, they felt the need to release their anger on those below them.

'He'll be kicked out of this academy in no time. What makes him think that he could just become a mech combatant out of nowhere.' A student commented.

As the spars came to an end, the students gathered on the platform to prepare to exit. However, Bernando continued giving glances of contempt toward Alonso, while talking to the others about him.

After he'd finish talking, they'd just continue laughing while also giving glances toward him.

Alonso's left fist, that was hidden away, was being clenched tightly. These comments of arrogance and disdain toward him were nearly unbearable to hear. After each one, he would just get angrier and angrier.

"What did you say?!" Alonso blurted out, giving a strong glare at Bernando.

The other students fell silent upon seeing this, and they looked upon him with shock.

Mr Piedrabuena even looked surprised by his sudden outburst.

"Quiet, Alonso, I'm talking." His teacher stated.

He had been giving general advice to the students but they seemed far more invested in mocking Alonso.

The students were dismissed and started to step off the platforms, but Bernando stormed toward Alonso instead.

"Go to armoury 3 if you know what's good for you." Bernando whispered into his ear with a commanding tone.

He then gave Alonso a powerful shove before stepping off the platform himself.

Alonso stood there, shaking with fear but also anger. He had absolutely no clue what Bernando was going to do but he had a general idea.

However, he knew what would happen if he wasn't to follow his order. Weaklings of the school were known to fall victim to Bernando's frequent attacks. He was from a prestigious family and it seemed like he was never taught to remain humble and calm.

The Armoury 3 building was quite detached from the school sites. It was usually a place where students would hang around from time to time due to its location. Additionally, it was the third armoury that the school possessed and it wasn't frequently visited.

He arrived in the area, and there wasn't anyone present to begin with. He looked around the sandy area with caution, and any sound made him hastily survey his surroundings.

From a neighbouring tree, Bernando revealed himself and walked forward in a pacy stroll.

"You think you can disrespect me in front of all those f*cking people?!" He asked, while his black mech slowly started to form.

Alonso simply did the same in defence, then Bernando dashed forward to shove him.

He slammed into the armoury but buildings were very fortified. He didn't even leave a scratch on the large brick wall.

"Are you not gonna answer my question?!" Bernando asked loudly, as his face became covered by his helmet.

He landed a swivelling kick to Alonso's face and even with his helmet, he was disoriented by the strike.

Alonso, with a bleeding nose under his mask, remained on the ground and turned away from his opponent. In his left hand -the hand Bernando couldn't see- he started forming his special dagger.

He extended his body as fast as he could and activated his Heat Slash. Once again, he couldn't land on the target and he missed entirely. With desperation, he swung again but Bernando caught his incoming fist before he could do a thing.

"Die!" Bernando roared, head-butting Alonso in his vice.

He was dazed to an even greater degree, then he received even more strikes that he couldn't evade nor block.

"Mech Damage: Moderate."

As he laid on the armoury wall, un-reactive, Bernando forced his leg into his gut with a front kick. A shallow crack scurried up the wall, and Alonso continued coughing out blood.

He felt pain all over his body and only his adrenaline was keeping him from wailing in agony. He could feel his mech entering the wounds and doing its best, but the progress was slow.

He only had a basic repair system, and these systems prioritised the repair of the mech and not the human.

It still had some features to accelerate human healing, but the amount that it accelerated it wasn't very noticeable.

In a few minutes, he gained the strength to raise up to his feet, and he slowly returned to the school grounds as usual.

He continued on his day and nobody was even caring enough to notice the bruises he had on his face. His mech couldn't easily heal those wounds if his helmet was not active, and he took every chance that he could to do so.

Just revealing one's mech in school wasn't against the rules but it was kind of frowned upon and against regulation.

In one's mech, you could get lost watching videos through it's ability to connect to the internet. Or, one would just view its current status like its power, level etc.

However, no one really paid him enough attention to actually think of why he had his mech activated.

The next day came quickly, and the students were all stood in a similar but different stadium. It was larger, with more stands, and the central ground was made of the white polyester canvas.

The ring was surrounded by 10 feet wooden walls, with doors littered across it.

"Inside here, is the autobot training stadium. This will be your first day in facing these autobots and I'm sure that you're all ready."

"Autobots possess similar abilities to human mech users but they have no host. They are made totally of metal and don't possess the same versatility as mechs but do have special abilities."

The students looked eager to begin this next step in their training, and Alonso felt the same. The idea of facing a full on mechanical warrior was exciting and he couldn't wait to test out his strength.

"The autobots that you will face today will be the Level 1 and 2 versions. We usually reserve the Level 2 autobots for the class above you guys but due to the clear talent amongst you, I've given you guys a bigger challenge." He explained.

The students looked at each other with excitement as they awaited this upcoming event.

"I know that Level 1 sounds like these autobots should be easy to take down, but we save them for this time for a reason. Some people can tear down full on villages with their mechs, so don't think you're hotshots just yet."Mr Piedrabuena stated, stepping back.

"Lennox, you're up first!"

The students followed their teacher to the stands and Lennox just stood in the platform cluelessly.

"Just wait patiently. In due time, an autobot will reveal itself from that door." His teacher shouted down, pointing to the large door ahead of him.

He activated his mech once he started to hear some buzzing from behind the door, and he entered his stance.

Giving a calm exhale, the autobot was revealed and it was grey in colour. It had glowing blue textures and it looked almost identical to a mech user, except it was totally cybernetic, and had no vice over the front of its face.

Fwoom!

The autobot charged right at Lennox and the two warriors commenced their battle. Initially, it was proving to be a minor challenge for him but he dismantled the bot in a sequence of fluid, devastating attacks.

He shattered its exterior and left it, malfunctioning on the ground ahead of him.

"Return to the stands, Lennox. You're going up against a Level 2." His teacher announced.

The other students were soon having shots against these mechs and it was a very touch challenge for them. The fights were lengthy and bloody but all of the students had come out on top. Even though the autobot was labelled as being Level 1, some possessed special abilities like forming daggers out of no where, or having lethal speed.

"Alonso, you're up." His teacher stated.

"Oooo.."

"Do you think he'll beat it?" A student asked his friend.

The boy chuckled before glancing at Alonso.

"He'll be lucky to survive." He arrogantly replied.

"Quiet class!" Mr Piedrabuena ordered, bringing them to silence.
