1 The Villainess

"You know what..?"
Zane whispered mischievously. They were in the store room at the rooftop of school. It was already getting dark and no one seemed around. He gently stepped towards her as a smirk graced his perfectly carved lips seeing her back touch the door. He bent near her ear and whispered hoarsely.

"That's it. I can't stay away from you anymore."
The light blush on her cheeks was visible even in the dimly lit room as he scooped her face in both his hands and kissed her forehead. Then, her fluttering eyes, soft earlobes, reddening cheeks and small nose respectively. He could hear her heartbeat as she shyly pulled him closer.

They had waited for so long. Despite being mates, they had to face a lot of challenges in their relationship. Considering how much a werewolf's wolf craves for its mate, and still they had waited for a whole year, they were already considered saints.

Not being able to stay away any longer, she softly kissed him. His lips morphed into a beautiful smile in the kiss as he took the lead, kissing her passionately. Their lips moved in perfect sync against each other, taking each other in hungrily while trying to become one. Her arms wound around his shoulder while his hands slid to her waist, pulling each other closer, wishing to merge with the other. The surrounding long forgotten as the kiss deepened, pulling each other even closer, leaving only the sounds of heavy breaths echoing in the room.

Her soft moans and his hard breath were audible even outside the room where a girl stood with tears dripping from her eyes. Yes, she was Aurelia-the mateless. The villainess of their story. She didn't have a mating mark unlike all the couples of this world. She was the only omega born in the past hundred thousand years, which meant she was mateless, but her obsession to find a mate for herself nearly destroyed their lives.

They had to go through a lot, she created a lot of misunderstandings between them but as they say; true love always wins. Their love won too. Today they were finally able to be together and both knew that once out of there, someone was going to receive a heavy punishment for their deeds. Well, that was for tomorrow, what they needed the most right now was the warmth of love and passion. Forgetting every other thing, they indulged themselves in the sinful pleasure.

As the evening embraced night and time slipped by, the girl standing like a statue moved as well. Behind her, the moans still echoed but she kept pushing herself away from that place and finally came out of school.

In her eyes, she was the most pitiful person in this world. She only wanted someone to call her home, did she not deserve that? Just a person, whom she could look up to. Someone who'd support her unconditionally, like any other mate did. Why was it not meant for her? If not, then what was the reason for her existence? Was she supposed to keep living this way and watch others having wonderful families? Of course not.

She knew she was wrong and her efforts were futile in keeping those two people apart, but just once in her life she wished to be a little selfish. She knew it was impossible to keep them apart forever, she only wished to experience those feelings for a few days, until they got back together. But she couldn't even do that. How could she, when her intentions were wrong all along.

She didn't know where she was going but at some point she turned to cross the road and was hit by a racing truck. She flew a few meters high in the air before falling face down on the road. Blood spurted out from her broken body as she lay there trying to concentrate on the hazy lights of the truck going farther and farther away with every passing second. When looked down from the roof of a nearby building, only a puddle of blood could be seen.

Lying there she reconsidered her life choices. It wasn't worth it. She could have used this life for something better but sadly, she had lost the chance. What was there for her in this life anyway. Why be sorrowful when nothing was meant for her in the first place? She peacefully closed her eyes.

However, it will always be a mystery if it was an accident or a suicide. This, only the villainess knows and she refused to let anyone discover this, even the writer is a mere onlooker.

**** The End ****

Avianna closed the book with a contented sigh. Now she can die peacefully. She had been worried that she might die before completing the novel and this dreaded her the most. As someone who had been fighting with a fatal disease, her patience and hopes were now wearing off. She even happened to eavesdrop on two doctors discussing she probably had only one week left.

She was devastated. She didn't wish to die so young, there were lots of dreams to fulfill. She too wished for a happy life with her beloved and dreamed of becoming a renowned writer. She wanted to explore the world and fall in love, even a mate was ok but alas, she got no time. So the only satisfaction she could get was to be able to read the complete novel before her time ended in this world.

Sighing, she placed the book aside and settled down to sleep. She had received today's foul medicine and injection some time ago and now her eyes were droopy. As she lay there waiting to sleep, she kept thinking about the villainess of the novel.

It must have been hard on her. She could have done so many other things if not for people pestering her about a mate to the point she became obsessed with the idea. They were almost similar. Avyanna was an orphan and the werewolf Aurelia was an unfavored child. They both were young and while one was dead, the other was going to die soon as well.

"Maybe when I die and our souls meet somewhere above the skies, I'd like to tell you that you weren't completely at fault. You did end up doing wrong things though, but wishing for a normal life itself wasn't wrong."
She didn't know why she was thinking about the villainess when all she cared about was the hot alpha kissing his mate all along the novel. Perhaps the fact that she too is going to die a death similar to the villainess, i.e. loveless and meaningless, made her sympathize with her.

But anyways, she didn't get to think a lot before falling asleep. In her dream, she chased all her dreams enthusiastically (yess.. irony..) and managed to accomplish them as well. A satisfied smile appeared on her lips and that was the last gift from the heavens for this little girl before her life slipped away from her hand silently.

Inside the small hospital bedroom lay a seventeen years old cancer warrior with eyes closed and an eternal smile plastered on her lips. The nurses were removing tubes from her body and one took away the novel from under her right hand. There it was, written in bold letters;

The Super Alpha's Mateless Mate.

No one but Avyanna knew that that wasn't the name of novel in the first place but she wasn't around to ponder over it anymore.
