The Fog

Many years ago there lived a seal in the open ocean. The seal was a mother of many seal pups, carefully watching over her offspring day and night. For years the seal looked over their children, watching them grow and mature throughout the months and years. But one month, as the seal was nursing one of their pups, a shark burst out of the water in a firework of wet droplets, clamping down on one of the seal's offspring and stealing it into the waves. Unable to save her child, the seal mother vowed to not let another of her children be taken. For many months, the seal was wary, guarding her legacy with all of her might. But one month, she faltered in her vigil. shark burst out of the water again, poised to steal another child. But the seal mother pushed her adolescent out of the way, taking the attack herself. The shark bore her into the sea, whisking her away from her family. But as the seal took its last breath, it transformed. The thick blubber evaporated into water droplets that floated from the sea into the air. The droplets formed the first fog, which enveloped her children. Though dead, the seal could now watch over her children for eternity.
