The Candle Seller

In one of the biggest cities in the kingdom, adjacent to the deep waters of the ocean, there lived a young boy known as the Candle Seller. Very poor, the Candle Seller made wax candles and sold them to afford meager pieces of meals to keep themself alive. But in the Candle Seller's home, a rebellion had sprung up, to combat the king and his iron rule. The rebellion used candles to signal to their allies, and so the king issued a decree; all candles would be banned from the land. One night, the Candle Seller journeyed around the town, trying to sell his candles. The night was pitch black, and the Candle Seller lit one of his candles to guide his way. But while he was out peddling, a group of guards saw the bright flame and the illegal candle. Eager to make an example, the guards began to chase down the Candle Seller, spears and swords at their sides. The panicked Candle Seller began to run, fleeing from the attackers. Though the guards were gaining ground, the Candle Seller dived into the sea, pleading with the Ocean to save him. The Ocean heard and answered the Candle Seller's calls, and as the Candle Seller leaped into the waters of the bay, their body transformed into that of a fish. Swimming deeper into the ocean, the Candle Seller became the first anglerfish. And even to this day, the anglerfish wanders at night, shining its light in the darkness.
