Chapter 34: Questions Regarding Living Conditions
Nick and I lie in bed, snuggled against one another with the covers overtop us. Our arms are wrapped around each other. The wolf is happy about this. Happy to have him close. The human has more on his mind.
“You’re restless,” Nick says, stroking my back.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright,” he coos. “What’s the problem?”
“You mean besides what happened earlier?”
“If there’s more than that, then yes.”
I squeeze him. “Is there really nothing we can do to save those people in West Gulch?”
“Probably not,” he says. “I should have done more to prepare you for that aspect of life in Springwater. Sometimes, the Bloodfangs commit atrocities, and there’s nothing you can do but ignore them.”
