Chapter 2:

"Okay, I'm out here." Zoey's words seemed to cling together as she spoke through the phone. Amire's house was a pretty Beau- Blue with white accents to match. The roof was covered in nicely installed shingles. Everything that screams that a disingenuous family would live here, which wasn't exactly false. Amire's family was known for its excessive money and discernible attitude. Her attention was averted by the sight of her girlfriend. The door of her small, yet comfortable car opened as the sweater-wearing, blue-rimmed glasses girl made her way in.

"Okay," The visitor readjusted herself to pull the seat belt across her chest. "What conflict are we getting ourselves into today?"

"We're meeting up with this old person. They're said to know everything about... well everything."

"How do we know we're not gonna die?"

"I," Zoey reexamined the possibilities. There was no sure way to know if the ad she saw was true. It was pretty sketchy. It didn't seem as if they had a motive to scam. "Don't know."

"Well, carpe diem." The sequence of words only drew a crude expression from the other person's face.

"What?"

"Carpe diem? The Latin Aphorism? Means 'seize the day'." However, Zoey's expression didn't change. "Oh come on." The conversation condoned a person to easily notice the difference between the two, but they really got along because of one thing. A mystery. They met in the first year of Littlewood College. It was Zoey's first college and she didn't last long there. Only a month there in fact. When they met, it was simply over work. Which was a pretty banal thing to do. At first, Zoey didn't notice the girl until she said something audacious. Something about the teacher being a... Well, that didn't matter. Ever since then, the two hung out in and out of college, and trust Zoey was out of college A LOT.

The ride wasn't long, but enough to make the two question whether or not the two really wanted to go see this person. The supposed "house" that was marked on the ad, was really a tent. The overall tone of the place left people wondering if the place was even habitable. "Maybe we should turn back." The ethereal voice then articulated a sound that caused her to sink lower into her seat. Should I turn back? Thoughts of failure kept her from pursuing it.

"Are you okay?" Amire rested her hand upon the other's shoulder as she spoke. "You look like a rabbit in a fox's den, or however the analogy goes." Zoey smiled at the almost correct simile her girlfriend tried to use. While her being scared was truer, Zoey couldn't deny how much of a salient opportunity this was for her, for them. Zoey looked over to the passenger that she had invited along with her. I can't turn back. Not after having Ami with me. The girl took a deep breath. Taking time to suck all the courage and bravery she needed. If there was any time for an allusion to David and Goliath, it would be now. Just instead of taking down a giant, she was facing the truth. The truth about her mother, maybe.

"I'm fine." She straightened her face as she opened the car door. Making her way ever so slowly to the tent.
