9 Killing a Fox
The two of them met with several dismembered bodies. There were some that had lost several of their body parts, others having their internal organs already spilled on the floor and so on. In other words, there was none that was killed by the wolves that was in a single piece.
When he saw this, Adam finally began understanding the cruelty of the apocalyptic world. Initially, they could ignore the existence of the law considering that they were being kept in the facility against their own will. But still, there were rules that they had to follow as long as they were inside here. That was just enough to make sure that none of them got killed.
But now, it didn't matter whether there were rules that were followed or not. As long as the youths came into contact with the wolves, their strength was going to determine whether they were going to survive or not.
Since it was still night time, there were areas that were currently dark. This is due to the destruction that had been caused by the wolves. Initially, the whole area had been lit up by the huge floodlights of the facility. But now, it seemed that there were areas that had experienced technical problems.
Henry and Adam encountered two more wolves that were taken care of by henry with the gun. Since they were on the move, he made sure that the moment that he shot, the two of them would leave the area as soon as possible to avoid facing a pack of wolves.
Even though it was true that Henry currently had a weapon, when they faced the siege of several wolves at the same time, they would be in danger considering that he was having limited ammo.After using the two bullets, he was only left with only four of them.
For that reason, henry made sure that he wouldn't shoot as long as the wolf that they saw didn't approach the two of them.
Henry noticed that currently, the entire facility was almost empty. From this, he could deduce that the security of the facility had been defeated. As for the other staff members, henry cared nonetheless about them.
As they approached the gate, henry found out that the number of wolves that they had to hide from was increasing. Henry's heart tightened as he began thinking about what he was supposed to do now.
"Henry, since we are almost out of bullets, why don't we head for the armory? There should be a lot of weapons there, right?" Adam whispered to Henry.
At that moment, Henry thought that this was the best choice. They had to ensure that they were fully armed so that they would be ready to deal with the dangers that they were about to face.
With the information that he had received about the apocalypse, he knew that there was much more danger out there. Additionally, since they didn't even know about where they currently were, then it was going to be hard for them to find the way back home.
Just as they were about to change their target, there was a sudden growl that came from behind. When they turned around, they immediately saw that there was a creature that was approaching them.
It have a flattened skull, upright, triangular ears, a pointed, slightly upturned snout, and a long bushy tail ("brush"). The eyes were blood-red in color, gleaming under the reflection of the floodlights.
Unlike the wolves that had always been charging at them, the fox in front of them was actually approaching slowly as if it was afraid that they were going to run away.
Knowing that the area that they were currently in wasn't good for him to use a gun, as this was going to attract the attention of the wolves that were around the vicinity, Henry turned around and stretched his hand at Adam.
"Give me that steel bar that you are holding. I cannot use the gun in this situation." Henry stated.
When Adam heard that, he hesitated for a moment. "Why don't you allow me to face it?" He wasn't willing to let Henry take the risk while he on the other hand only hide behind him.
All along, when he saw that Henry had been killing several wolves, his hands had already been getting itchy, wanting to beat something. Even though he knew that there was danger, he still had the intention to face the monsters.
What he didn't know was that, this was the influence of the increase in strength that he had received after he had killed a wolf previously and awakened to become a mutant warrior.
Of course Henry knew about what Adam was thinking. But at this moment, he felt that he could only face the fox in front of him. He was only confident in his current abilities and not Adam's.
It was not that he underestimated Adam. It was just that, as he killed more and more apocalyptic creatures, he found out that he was actually getting stronger. With each kill he make, he would be strengthened.
For that reason, he wanted to test out his current new strength. Currently, not only was he not fatigued, but he felt that his body was currently full of energy that needed somewhere to vent.
"There's something that I want to test out. You will get your chance after this." Henry stated. He knew that Adam had to kill a few more apocalyptic creatures so that he could become strong enough to protect himself.
Just from the fact that the area around the gate of the facility was already almost filled up with wolves, then he couldn't imagine the scene that was outside the walls of the facility.
Adam thought to himself, before he handed the steel bar to Henry. And at this moment, something surprisingly happened.

At the transparent screen appeared in front of him, Henry froze for a moment before his eyes glinted with excitement. He had never thought that this was actually going to work, and he had only intended to test it out.
Of course, he was serious about fighting the fox that was in approaching the two of them.
The moment that the transparent screen disappeared, Henry felt that his muscles were twitching. After that, he suddenly felt familiar with the steel bar that he was holding in his hand.
Although the steel bar wasn't that long, it was at least 1m long. For that reason, Henry found out that he could actually use the steel bar like a staff.
With his confidence boosted up, Henry didn't wait for the fox to make the first move. When it got to a distance of 100 m away from them, he charged at it.
Coupled with the muscle memory of utilizing a gun as well as the staff, Henry's current combat abilities were not inferior to the special forces, if not better. As for the skills, he was of course at the top.
When the fox saw that the human in front of it was actually going its way, it did not hesitate anymore and also charged at him, brandishing its claws.
Henry used the steel bar to block the claws that were heading to his chest. The power behind the claw attack of the fox wasn't small at all,it made Henry's hand to tremble a little.
But at this point, he found out that he was actually stronger than he believed he was. If this was previously, before he awakened, he would have definitely been blown backwards by the attack.
But this time, other than his hands shaking, there wasn't any other kind of damage that had been dealt on him.
Knowing that the fight between the two of them could easily attract the attention of the wolves, he knew that he had to finish the fight as soon as possible. For that reason, he wasn't willing to hold back at all.
Side stepping to the right, he evaded the folks that was jumping to bite him. Immediately after that, he brandished the steel bar that he was holding in his hand towards the neck of the fox.
Bang! Boom!
The steel bar connected with the neck of the fox. The immense force behind at the bar immediately sent the fox that was in the air tumbling towards the ground. Since it was in the air, it was pushed a few meters backwards.
The fox screamed in pain, as it had never expected that it was going to be beaten this way. According to its instincts, the human before it should have been a weakling.
It had already killed over a dozen of other humans, and most of them were usually running away from it. And for that reason, it had been slowly approaching Henry and Adam, afraid that they would run away.
This fox was actually close to level one. For that reason, its intelligence had somehow developed.
Henry didn't waste much time and took advantage of the fact that the fox was still struggling to get back to its feet and attacked it again.
This time, he targeted the head. Although the fox tried to evade, it wasn't able to do that with the injury that it had received in the neck.
Bang!
They steel rod smashed into the head of the fox. Henry didn't stop with a single blow, but continued delivering even more ferocious attacks on the fox.
In just 1 minute, the head of the fox had been blown up by him. After that, knowing that the screams of the fox had already attracted the attention of the nearby wolves, he looked at Adam and signaled him to get out of here after he had taken the mutation crystal.
As soon as they left the area, it was soon flooded by several wolves. Each and every one of them was looking for a prey. But after looking around for a while, they couldn't find anything other than the corpse of the fox.
The wolves immediately charged towards the corpse of the fox and began eating it greedily. As long as it wasn't of the same species of them, these apocalyptic creatures could eat each other.
