Chapter 9

Persephone POV:

We were now all back in the car on the way to their house. The car ride was better than the way, everyone was chatting about stuff, mostly of which I didn't want to tune into. "Persephone?" Hades asked.

I hummed and tilted me head. "Do you want to go to school with me?"

I shot my head up with a smile. I finally get to go to school! "Yes! Absolutely! That would be just amazing! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!" I squealed.

I could tell that Hades was on edge about it and I could very clearly tell that he was hiding something from me. I've been choosing to ignore it, but I know I couldn't hold my curiosity in for much longer.

The rest of the ride I spent day dreaming about what it would be like in school. How many friends would I make? Could I play sports? I was awoken from my thoughts feeling someone shake me back to reality. "Persephone, we're here." Hades stated with a small smile.

I looked around in shock. The house was nearly four times the size of ours, and had security all around it. The boys and Marcello all seem unfazed by this while I stood there eyes wide like saucers. "We're gonna stay here?" I practically squealed.

"Yes ma'am." Marcello said, whispering the next part, "For a very long time."

I dismissed the comment and he and the brothers walked up the stairs. I suddenly heard a bark come from the side. I saw two very big dogs, one german shepherd and one doberman. They looked a bit terrifying and started running towards Hades and I who were standing at the bottom of the stairs. As they approached they snarled at us, but I walked forward anyway. I put my hand in front of each of their snouts and giggled as they licked my hands. I fell to my knees and started petting each of them, feeling their corse hair. I turned to the guys standing behind me in a slight shock, "Guys?" I asked still petting the dogs.

"How did you do that sweetie?" Marcello asked with a slightly raised eyebrow.

"Do what?" I asked curiously. They clearly looked vile but looks are often deceiving, they're incredibly sweet.

"Alright, let's show you to your room." Santino said not showing any sort of emotion. Just like Hades.

I nodded my head and started walking up the stairs. I heard slight paws running behind us. I looked at the boys and asked, "What are their names?" both dogs brushed against my legs, nearly making me trip.

"The german shepherds name is Diablo and the doberman is Roxie." Angelo replied, slightly amused. "We're at your room Persephone." he finally said.

I nodded and looked at my puppies. They're so cute. Hades came to my side but Roxie stepped between us and snarled at him, I pet her head and smiled at her. The boys and I said our goodbyes and tried to get the dogs to follow, but they stood in front of me with snarls. I'm not quite sure why they don't do it to me. Soon enough everyone left, including Hades who went back to his room. I was in my room reading my book with Roxie and Diablo at my feet.

My mind couldn't help but wander to when we used to be locked up in a cell with hardly enough food. I shivered at the thoughts I tried to escape from. Knives, glass, Ryker, water, guns, torcher, men, concrete, rope. I could feel myself running out of breath when I could feel a weight fall to my left and right side. Roxie started licking my cheek, as Diablo nudge his head under my arm. I started to calm down and pet the both of them, I decided to go explore the house.

I creaked open my door and turned to the right. I really have no idea where I'm going, but that's the whole point of an adventure! I turned to the left to see a huge library, dozens of shelves full of books. I gasped and started to run towards the shelf, Roxie and Diablo followed behind me silently.

I think it was time to find a new book. I ran my hand along the spines of all the books until my fingers laced a velvet red spine. I couldn't see the title along the side, but something about it intrigued me. I opened the book and heard the familiar crack of a book not being opened in ages. The cover did not have the title either, the first page of the book said, "Diario di Calimer Esposito" (Diary of Calimer Esposito) in huge cursive letters. I opened to the next page to see it filled with the writing with exquisite penmanship. I started at the top and read the date, 1958.

I heard the familiar sound of a gunshot outside of the door. I froze in my steps, I tucked the book into my backpack and moved to the very back of the library silently along with Roxie and Diablo who were sniffing and shifting protectively in front and behind me. I could hear yelling coming from the floor above me. Soon enough I was hidden between the last bookshelves silently shedding tears.

The door creaked open slowly. I could clearly hear two pairs of shoes hit the ground, getting closer to me. "Я не думаю, что здесь есть кто-нибудь." (I don't think anyone is in here.) A strong unrecognisable voice stated, bringing chills through my spine.

"Просто продолжай искать. Босс хочет только одного из итальянских детей." (Just keep looking. Boss wants just one of the italians children.) Another responded. They both were on one side of the shelves. I crossed to the end of the shelf so that they couldn't see me. I turned to look at them slightly when I heard a clack of metal hitting the hardwood floor. I looked down to see my earring sitting on the floor. "Who's there?" One yelled out with a heavy accent.

"Хватай их" (Get them).
