17 Chapter 17: Sorting

The students finally reached Hogwarts. They pass the lake to see the most beautiful sight of the castle. Draco also checked for signs of Hermione, she looked fine and seemed to have calmed down, so he didn't bother anymore. The sight of her magical disturbance brought him to the times with Astoria, and he might have softened, treating her like Astoria, as they were alone and the excited emotions from leaving home, the talk with friends and pressure from Daphne. He has calmed down and with everyone present, he reverted to his public arrogant, prideful and sneering persona. So he will treat her with distant politeness. As they are likely to never cross paths, they belong to different worlds.

We are welcomed by the famous strict Gryffindor cat professor, McGonagall.

'Welcome to Hogwarts,' said Professor McGonagall.

'The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room.'

'The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff,

Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history, and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours. '

'The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes,

in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting.' and walked inside leaving us.

While waiting, Draco heard others talking about Harry Potter. Although I don't want anything to do with him, at least we will know and make acquaintances. So, I went to introduce myself and check out the legendary child. I said aloud," So, it's true, Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts". Grabbing attention, I walked up to him to introduce, "This is Crabbe and Goyle. I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy". And before I could finish myself, I was interrupted by a chuckle by Weasley. I was never interrupted before as it is rude to cut someone during his speech, and I haven't said anything other than our names so, was it a humiliation? laughing at our name? So, I only lightly insulted him on his poor upbringing and family, which will also serve as a warning to Mr. Potter, and I extended my hand for a shake. Harry rejected saying, "I can tell the wrong shorts of people." I was surprised and angry to find that I was rejected and even used some light mind-reading to check for authenticity. Finding he truly meant it, I was angry, legendary son or not, I have decided to humiliate and hurt him badly. He was spared when Professor McGonagall came and ushered us in for the sorting ceremony.

Hermione was around the corner looking at the castle and listening carefully to what the professor said. She was feeling much better now after the talk with Draco and wanted to thank him, but he was over the other side with his friends and when their eyes met, he acknowledged with a nod. She was relieved that they didn't go back to strangers. She was amazed by how he got the attention of everyone and still stride through it easily with a natural sort of pride. She was afraid of attention. He was introducing his friends and his name when he was interrupted by a chuckle. Who would laugh at a person's name on his face when he introduces himself. It happened to be the Weasley boy and I think Draco was even light with his words considering Harry to be with the Weasley, but he was rejected again. I feel bad for him at this point, I can also see a blue tint in his eyes. The first time I saw him, his eyes were blue but then it returned to his stormy gray later that I thought I remembered incorrectly. His eyes can turn blue. Then, came the professor and I was lost in the wonders of the castle again.

Professor McGonagall brought a stool and placed a hat on top. it was a magical hat and it start to sing; introducing how it was made and its powers to sort students into their respective houses based on their pedigree and characters.

The sorting hat can read unprotected minds, hence for Draco, it was a perfect opportunity to browse through the minds of most noticeable students and I can check it up later. I will definitely plow and search through his mind, and even better as that might leave him with a headache or emotional disturbance.

The sorting went as usual, Draco went to Slytherin, and all Hermione, Ronald and Harry went to Gryffindor. Through the headmaster Dumbledore's speech, I knew something was going to happen at Hogwarts. I shall write to my father for this. I even noticed his small talk before the feast. He insulted every house. I finally feel at home reaching the Slytherin dorms in the dungeon. After writing letters to my parents about the sorting and to Astoria about my day and how I missed her. I climbed to my bed, closed the curtain for privacy and silenced it. I took out my diary and noted today's entry. Finishing it, I set my wand for alarm and closed my eyes. I sorted the memories obtained from several students and suspicious teachers. He noted some distinctive students of this year. They are 8 Gryffindor students (Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnigan, Hermione Granger, Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil), 4 Hufflepuff students (Ernie Macmillan, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Hannah Abbott, and Susan Bones), 6 Ravenclaw students (Terry Boot, Mandy Brocklehurst, Michael Corner, Anthony Goldstein, Padma Patil, and Lisa Turpin) and their 8 Slytherin students (Draco Malfoy, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Blaise Zabini, Theodore Nott, Pansy Parkinson, Millicent Bulstrode and Daphne Greengrass).

Quirrel: Shit two souls. This is bad, considering it's only in spectral form, He can assume who it was. He mentally noted to be careful in Defense against the dark arts class. Something really big is happening in Hogwarts for sure. Also, Quirrel's surface thoughts are: "be careful of Harry Potter. I have to steal it fast." This aura in spectre, I've just seen it … Harry! Holy Shit! Harry has Voldemort's soul but how? Oh, grandfather said something about horcruxes, I need to further check it. Does Voldemort know of this, I think not. This could be leverage.

Dumbledore looks old and weak but has the strongest magic in the room, although his life force is dwindling, He may live for another 20 years. Oh, his wand is odd! It contains powerful magic in self.
