1 Calamity Of A Whisperer Star

The power of a Star.

It was overwhelming.

The light was blinding, its rays piercing my flesh like daggers. This was a Star that had solidified its position in the Desirer's Summit, or the tower. It was a Star with thousands of years of experience, and "Legends" surrounding its existence.

I felt my soul ripple before its presence, my heart sinking, and my mind warning me of the danger. But I persisted, until now. A few party members of mine and various other clans attempted to challenge a Star.

No, that wasn't even our intention.

The appearance of the Star was merely coincidental… Or was it?

As I stared at the ruined world of the 51st Floor, I felt nothing but sorrow and regret… And an intense urge to rip apart that Star. Rather than helplessness, I felt regret at the fact that I wasn't prepared.

If I had been prepared… If I had trained for a few more years… Perhaps I would've been able to resist the might of a Star…

No, who am I kidding?

How could a mortal take on a Star?

My thoughts were jumbled, my body swaying like a lone leaf amid the violent winds. I unsheathed my blade from the scabbard strapped to my waist. A shrill scream reverberated across the battlefield, and I grimaced, realizing it had emerged from my lips.

Blood trickled down her chin, while my eyes lost their light. I felt a sense of emptiness radiating around my abdomen.

"Aiden!"

A few screams called out my name, but I was deaf to their voices of pain. They were also enduring. They would also die soon. No one could resist the calamity that lay its disgusting feet atop the 51st Floor.

I had just become a Ranker.

I hoped to become a High Ranker, work a few years in a powerful organization headquartered on the 89th Floor, and then retire peacefully. I wasn't certain if my mother, father, or little brother would be alive by then.

But…

Never mind.

Why mumble aimlessly, staring at the face of a silver scythe awaiting the approach of your soul?

We were dying to a Whisperer Star… The lowest existence in a Pantheon Of Stars. It wasn't even its real body. It was pitiful, but when comparing mortals to such a mighty existence, it was only natural. No mortal could resist a Star, no matter which rank.

"Leonard, you bastard!"

I heard a faint voice.

"Why would you betray us!? Why would you take the side of a filthy star?"

Thud! Bam!

"Without Aiden, you people are nothing. Now that he's dead, you're of no use."

That was Leonard's voice. I felt anger surge within me, but I was powerless. I couldn't move, and the intense pain weighing down on me didn't help. Had he joined the Whisperer Star? The Star that was often called Chiron?

Wait…

Was he the one who'd summoned Chiron?

Although it was a mere suspicion, I felt the thought solidify in my mind.

At that moment, a message reverberated across my mind.

[Your Legends have faded.]

[Pawn Body is being destroyed.]

My consciousness flickered.

I died.
