1 Plague

It didn't even dawn on me that the night sky wasn't its usual bright, starry, and silent self. But as I looked up from the comfort of my grassy backyard in the middle of the woods, it was all too late but the night sky had a third moon instead of the two twin dwarf moons Luna and Moon that are all too familiar to every civilian gazing up, praying this horror would end as soon as they've opened their eyes. The third moon was all so magnificent, green glistening aura surrounds its atmosphere, even so slightly coming closer and closer to colliding with our planet.

As it revolves around the planet, dark patches of pentagonal glass follow behind its trail, surrounding, engulfing our dearest planet in a sphere of eternal doom.

"I've never seen anything like it", I said to myself as I stair and stair into the galaxy. Usually, as things happen like this, nobody would be horrified, as Planet Earths Astro defense would have already dealt with such a massive invader. "What's the point of even trying", I say again. The Earth could never be invaded by any other being in this universe, we've been through thousands, even be millions of life-threatening attempts of invasion by other inhabitants of the heavenly bodies but not once has been successful. With the Corporal in charge, 'nothing to be afraid of'. Well, that's what they're trying to say to the media for as long as I could remember. With the four inhabitable continents remaining of Earth, four leaders stood and join forces to defend and protect the planet of which the most intelligent and powerful has been said to rise upon.

But tonight, something was off, like the way water tastes different when given from a different house or how the knife hits different with every swing. "Somethings off", the invading moon has already been detected for a while now, and nothing seems to be happening, this could not be a project of the Corporal as well, the sirens were echoing just a moment ago. Suddenly, a burst of sonic booms scoured the lands, shaking the ground with its mighty force and power. A bright light emitted from the moon as if it was going into a supernova, but soundless. Fourteen long seconds of waiting and the silent drops, loud inaudible screams resonated throughout the woods of which I'm gazing. Then all of a sudden, a needle-like structure hovered above the forest, not far from where I'm lying. I stood up and ran as swiftly as I can, trying to find where its exact location, then I halt, above a plain grassland in the middle of the woodlands, it started to go down slowly, like the bead of sweat of a victim trying to stay calm in a scene of a murder. "What is that thing?", as I bend down between the thick bushes of wimple berries in the far north of the flying machine. I looked above me and noticed, "it changed, it used to be emerald green, now it's red," the aura of the moon is pulsating with a vibrant red, like a fresh batch of massacre covered in rich crimson blood. Red is never a good sign, I thought, "what could this be," I whispered in the air, hoping to find an answer just around the corner of this mysterious event in front of my very eyes. The injector-like machine was about to hit the ground, the moon was still glowing red and the Corporal was still not responding. I watch for probably 15 minutes of constant fear and desperation to go find someone for answers but I didn't, I kept low, I'm already outcasted from the Capitol and I'm not trying to make it official.

It finally hit land and it kept digging its way down the ground as a needle would go through the skin of a sick child needing aid. I noticed the moon has now stopped glowing but it was almost as it was dead, just a piece of floating rock in our solar system. Then it erupted, a series of sonic booms much loader than earlier soared and caused a massive burst of light to eject from the inside-out of the invading moon. It deafened me as sure as do all people who heard its roar. I kept my eyes shut covering my ears at the same time as I scream so loud my throat would be sore if ever I'd still be alive by tomorrow's life. An explosion of power blared within my body as a gust of wind tried to knock me down to the ground. I abided and let myself fall, as the derby of the shattered moon plummets from the atmosphere. I ran and took cover in a nearby cave I've remembered seeing while roaming in the woods. Massive explosions start to occur as meteoroids pass the Earth's Astro defenses and craters on the ground creating massive pits of the heavenly body remains.

It stopped an hour later, I got out of nature's shelters and scouted the area around me. Trees are leafless, but all fell to the ground or set on fire. Thousands of meteorites landed on Earth and creating these big pits of destruction. "Oh my God," the 'injector' has now fully sunk its way on the ground, with its body made of glass, I can see a void of purple liquid gushing down to the needle and onto the ground like the liquid medicine injected onto the patient whose only hope is to feel better, but this is no medicine to cure the Earth, this is poison. The ground turned to a dull gray, grass is dying in my very eyes and the ground is smoking with amber even without fire.

The sirens echoed again, telling the citizens to stay inside. But I was far from a comfortable house, I was a few meters away from this unexplained phenomenon. I wanted to come closer, I knew I shouldn't. "Stop right there!" someone shouted behind me. It was a member of the Corporal, I bowed down as a sign of respect and honor. "what are you doing here? Didn't you hear the sirens? Go back to your home now!" Cortious shouted at me and pointed towards the Capitol where he assumed my house would be. I couldn't speak, didn't even mutter a word at him, I just ran and ran, while trying to process the events that just happened. 'Who brought that onto Earth and why did the Corporal do nothing to stop it?'

I looked around me as I stopped running to catch a breath, the trees are swaying down, the ground beneath me is turning gray like it was losing its life and dying. Then I looked behind me where it all began, "What is this wasteland."
