91 No Rest For The Wicked

I stare at him and shrug my shoulders as I say "Obviously I wasn't." He narrows his eyes on me as he slowly shakes his head and says "No. I know for a fact you were dead. I went back to the spot after the others left and found your body."

I remain standing there, unsure if I should let the freak keep talking or if I should shut him up. His men all walk out of the trucks to see what was happening. Okay, maybe this is a good thing. This is giving the others precious time.

Kalen doesn't stop there though, he takes a step forward with a look of awe on his face as he says "I checked you myself. You were dead. I even went back a day later and you were still dead! The only reason I didn't mess with your body was because of that deranged little monkey."

Ah... I should really thank CheeChee. I sigh and say "Okay, I was dead and now I'm not. I'm a zombie or something, big deal. What are you doing out here Kalen?" As if realizing, he suddenly blinks before chuckling. He looks up to the sky with a lazy laugh before looking back to me and saying "I was on my way to collect new workers but I got distracted. I always seem to get distracted and mess up whenever you're involved."

I frown at him and ask "Workers?" He chuckles again and says "My men have been tracking this group for over a month now. We finally found them but we were a step too late. Was that your doing?" I shrug my shoulders again as I sigh and say "I'm sorry but this group is off-limits."

He narrows his eyes at me and smirks as he says "Off limits?" He laughs again before lifting both hands out and saying "My dear, nothing out here in the Void is off-limits to me. That includes you, and this group you seem to be protecting."

I keep a straight face as I remain standing in the way, refusing to back down or move. Kalen looks to me with amusement as he asks "What's so special about this group? Why are you willing to risk your life?" While he continues to talk, I silently and secretly use my powers on the trucks behind him.

I chuckle a little and say "Special?" I shake my head and say "I wouldn't really call it that. It's just that they paid good money for an escort." Kalen frowns and tilts his head to the side in confusion. I can't let him know that the group holds my entire world.

He takes another step forward as he says "Money?" As if tasting the word and shaking his head. He lifts a finger and points to me as he says "Something tells me you aren't the type to move for money. Besides, I've already gotten a sniff or two of them from their old campsite."

He comes to a stop a few feet from me and smirks as he says "Funny thing really, they remind me of... you." I slowly smile at him as all his men watch us. I take a slow step towards Kalen as one of his men suddenly disappears without the others noticing.

The entire time I've been making small talk, I've been dismantling their trucks. Piece by piece while Thane slowly picks the men off while everyone else is distracted. I look up to Kalen and his creepy eyes before softly saying "I will hang you from your own intestines if you so much as look at them. I don't have much to lose Kalen so if you take one of the last things I've got holding me together... I will become your worst nightmare. I'm not the same girl you kidnapped last year."

Kalen's eyes dilate a little as he watches me closely and says "I can see that... you seemed to have stumbled across something but I should let you in on a little secret..." He steps up a stops less than a foot from me as he leans in and says "When you threaten to hang me that way and to be my worse nightmare..." He shivers a little before saying "It turns me on"

I headbutt him and smile when I hear a crunch from his nose. I quickly send spikes from the ground up at him and his men but chaos has already broken out. Kalen stumbles back and reaches up to his nose with a surprised smile.

Blood flows from his nose, staining his teeth a bit as he smiles at me in delight and says "On second thought... I don't think your my boss's type. Me on the other hand?" He chuckles in ecstasy as he licks the blood and says "You're everything I could ever want."

Thane suddenly lands between us in a low crouch before slowly standing up and glaring at Kalen. Kalen quickly takes a few steps back and tsks at us as he says "So you went and broke your little friend out it seems..."

Thane gives him a dark smile as he says "She belongs to me, freak. You like to play rough? Come and play with me... I can play real rough." Kalen glares at Thane but he suddenly seems to notice something. He quickly turns around to find all his men dead and in pieces.

He hisses out and takes several steps back as he looks back to Thane with fear in his eyes. He hisses out again and asks "What the hell are you!?" A single man tries to pull himself up inside one of the trucks but the truck literally falls apart.

Thane's dark smile grows as he slowly lifts his hand. Long, black nails drip with blood as he licks it and says "I'm what hunts monsters... but for you? I'll make an exception. Just like you, I like playing rough."

Kalen steps back even farther and pulls out his gun. He quickly lifts it and points it at Thane before pulling the trigger.

"Click Click Click"

Kalen looks to the gun with confusion and fear before looking to me with surprise. I give him a knowing smirk as I lift my hand and show him the firing pin. His eyes quickly glance back to Thane with growing fear.

Thane tilts his head to the side and takes a deep breath before saying "I can smell your fear..." Thane takes a step forward, instantly causing Kalen to stumble back. Thane gives him a dark chuckle as he says "Who do you think she'd have more fun with?"

Kalen's eyes snap to me before he curses and disappears. He quickly takes off but when Thane goes to chase him after him, I hold him back and shake my head. I look towards the direction of the Oasis as I say "I think something's wrong. We'll worry about him later."

Thane looks unhappy about letting his prey go but he nods his head in agreement as we both take off. I have a bad feeling... I'm hoping it's just a feeling.
