How He Won Her Mother's Heart?

They both finally reached her home, with her guiding the way. Emmett stopped in front of her house as he removed his seatbelt.

"We are here."

Emmett looked at the girl who was busy thinking something while looking at a tree outside the window. Hearing him, she just hummed as she removed her seatbelt and opened the car door.

She was sure that he wouldn't open the door for her so she got down by the car herself and turned towards Emmett who had also got down from the car and was now busy taking out the bags from the car's trunk.

She raised her brows when she saw him carrying her bag himself.

Atleast he knew that he should do this work, being her boyfriend.

"No need, I will carry my bag and yes you don't need to drop me at my door. I can go on my own from here." Jennifer tried to take the bag from his hand, for him to only draw back his arm.

"I will carry it." He said firmly as he walked past her, towards the main gate.

Jennifer followed behind him when she was sure that he had no plans of going back to his home.

She prayed in her mind that her mother would not end up questioning her in front of Emmett. She didn't want to end up getting embarrassed becuase of her mother's excited nature.

The main gate opened as Jennifer pressed her thumb on the sensor. She followed Emmett inside, but stopped in her spot when she heard an excited shout coming from the door ahead of her.

She sighed as she accepted her 'fate'.

"Oh my God! Darling is this your BOYFRIEND??" Mary came running from the door and stopped right in front of Emmett.

She was a little stunned by his aura. But she was so excited that she didn't dwell on it and started questioning him, "Wow!! You are too handsome and look so young! What's your name?? Finally, my daughter found someone for herself. God, I was so worried about her future!!"

Emmett glanced down at the middle-age woman who wore a loose fitting red top and blue pant. .

His body which was slightly tensed, relaxed as he tried his best to make his facial expression normal. He didn't want to end up scaring his mother-in-law.

"My name is Emmett and I....." He was cut short by the girl behind him.

"Mom, aren't you going to invite us inside?" Jennifer had a forceful smile on her face.

She feared that the man in front of her would end up revealing about their relationship, so she interrupted him before he could properly introduce himself.

Mary slapped her forehead, "I was so excited about you finding a boyfriend that I nearly forgot to invite him inside. Come inside boy and treat this as your own house. Come, come let's go in..."

Suddenly she stopped speaking when she found him carrying her daughter's bag, she turned towards Jennifer and started lecturing her, "How can you ask your boyfriend to carry your bag? Did I teach you this? How can you let others carry your things. Come, quickly carry your bag yourself. You aren't small baby now!"

Jennifer looked at her mother with disbelief written on her face.

Why did she feel that she was being abandoned by her own mother after Emmett's arrival?

She wanted to say, 'I am your real daughter and not him!' But she decided otherwise. If she would speak now, it would only end up with her mother lecturing her more.

Jennifer felt that her mother was nowhere happy with her finally coming back home after a week, instead she felt that her mother had totally changed and now only was paying attention to her so-called boyfriend!

She looked so happy when she saw Emmett. And somewhere Jennifer felt little jealous.

She was being totally neglected, okay?

And her mother who had always been sweet with her now was ordering her to carry her own bag. When it was always her mother who would voluntarily carry her things, even if she declined.

Also Emmett was a man!! And her mother had already considered him as her boyfriend. So wasn't it his work to carry her bag.

And it wasn't like she asked him to carry her bag! Also she had asked him to return the bag to her, but he had declined!

This was unfair, totally unfair for her.

Her thoughts broke, when she heard Emmett speaking, "No worries aunty, I was the one who had insisted on carrying her bag when she wanted to carry it herself."

Mary grinned, "How caring and sweet!! Our daughter is lucky to have you as her boyfriend!"

She then turned towards Jennifer, "Jenny you should learn something from him. See how caring he is. You ought to keep him happy in the future, okay?"

Jennifer just nodded her head. She knew that even if she ended up not agreeing to her words, Mary would start scolding her then and there. So she just decided to nod her head.

But inside, she was complaining, 'Is he your son?! Why are you telling me the things which you should tell him as he is supposed to be my boyfriend?'

Jennifer sighed. She had not expected her mother to be this excited about her finding a boyfriend.

She was also quite shocked with the way her mother was acting with Emmett. It wasn't even ten minutes since she met him but she was already taking his side.

She wondered how Emmett had won her mother's heart without doing anything?

But she had to agree to one thing that even if she was upset with whatever her mother was saying, she indeed felt happy to see her mother smile so radiantly and happily after Felix's death.

Remembering about the things she had to complete, Jennifer's expression changed slightly. There was a lot of work waiting for her to complete.

She wouldn't be free anytime soon.

"Good. Let's go in now and Jenny you go upstairs and get ready. Your father has brought you a new dress. Come down after getting ready, okay?"

"As you say mom. By the way where is Dad? Why didn't he come out with you?" Jennifer asked as she walked behind her excited mother who was happily smiling and observing Emmett as she led him inside the house.

"He has gone out for some work. He will be returning back after an hour. So you go and dress up fast to surprise him. By the way I haven't told him about you arriving today in the afternoon. Well, I thought that you would book a hotel on your way home and stay there for a night, so I thought that it wouldn't be necessary to tell him about your arrival." Mary said as she turned her head to speak with Jennifer and gave her a wink, before walking inside.

Jennifer was totally shocked by her mother's words and actions.

She felt embarrassed as her face turned red.

Oh God, how she wished that she could dig a hole and burry herself inside!!

Why was her mother such a tease?!!

She didn't know what would Emmett think of her now. But she was sure that he would definitely tease her once they would be alone.

Emmett who had not spoken a word after he had defended her some time back was happy seeing how she was being embarrassed by Mary's words.

Also he was happy as he succeeded in his plan. Now he had successfully won his mother-in-law's heart without doing any efforts. Though he was quite surprised as to how Mary was this friendly and accepted him without him doing anything, he just decided to make use of this opportunity.
