1 The Funeral

When Young Mistress Liu stood in front of her father's coffin, tears running down her cheeks, the atmosphere was filled with the sultry aroma of incense and the sombre sounds of traditional Chinese music.

He had left, and she would never see him again, she couldn't believe it.

She held a piece of paper in her hand—the will that had exposed the truth about her family's wealth—as the funeral procession made its way through Shanghai's streets.

She had always assumed that they were struggling to get by.

But now that she was aware that her father had been covertly investing in companies and properties, she realised that she was the heir to a sizable wealth.

The knowledge was too much to bear.

She felt disoriented and afraid at the notion of navigating the world of the affluent and privileged.

For the sake of her father, she was aware that she needed to be strong.

She watched as her father's casket was lowered into the ground at the cemetery once the procession reached there, feeling a sense of closure flood over her.

Now that she was by herself, her sole source of solace was her newfound fortune.

A hand placed on her shoulder as she turned to walk away.

As she looked up, a young man with a sharp suit and a sly smirk was standing in front of her.

He said, "Permit me to introduce myself.

"Young Master Fu here.

Then you, my love, must be the heiress I keep reading and hearing about."
