The School's Princess is My Boyfriend

“Are you ready?” I asked, holding the flash up. “As ready as I’ll ever be,” Yale said, staring straight ahead as the light lit up the entire tunnel. We waited a second before the ground started rumbling and shaking. I whistled, “This is going to be a big catch.” Yale didn’t answer, she was too busy preparing herself as we watched hundreds of gooy creatures running towards us. “Darling?” “Already on it.” In the prestigious school of an unimportant name, is where I go to, with my girlfriend, Yale Cassese. The Princess of the school. Popular, beloved and wealthy. She has it all. And yet she chose me, so you gotta understand that maybe she does not really have it all, you know. Then again, I accept so maybe we are on the same boat. As normal as our day life is, our nightlife tends to be much more interesting. We live very different lives comparing our day to our night lives. She is Yale when she wants to be and then Rumant, my boyfriend, when he wants to be. I don't mind either of them, honestly. Either way, they are my life and I will protect them from anything that dares threaten them. Even if that is ... me.

"Are you sure about that?" I asked, but I knew better than anyone to doubt Yale's predictions. She has never been wrong. Not even once.

Maybe there is a little part of me that wanted to not believe what she said, to delude myself.

But we are not like that. We do not sugarcoat anything. That is something I appreciate and hate about us.

"Yes. And, I don't think the child is going to survive either." She mumbled, gritting her teeth. "What do we do, Zion? Is there nothing we can do? Alexis and Wendy have been looking forward to having a child of their own.

"Isn't there anything we can do for them?"

I don't know. I don't know if there is anything we can do. We are not God. We do not have the power of life and death in our hands.

We are just humans that have been mutated because of an explosion we don't really understand. We can die, we can get hurt, we can bleed.

We also know hundreds of ways to take a life but … to save it? Nothing. Pathetic if you think about it.

"We are going to Vermillion city right?" I said, just letting my mouth speak though I am not entirely sure what I am saying. "Maybe we can find something there. What are the chances of her giving birth tonight?"

"Not much." She said, looking at me right in the eyes. "Everything is stable at the moment. As long as she keeps calm, she will be fine for tonight."

"Vermillion city is known as a city of with old fashioned medicines. We may be able to find something." I said, giving her hand a squeeze again. "Don't worry. I'm sure we'll find something. Don't give up hope yet."

A grateful smile came on her face, as Yale intertwined our hands, "Yeah. You are right. Sorry."

"Don't apologise," I said, pushing the cake and cup to her. "Here. Eat."

"Ok." She said falling silent as she took a bite of the cake.

What did I just say? I thought, taking a sip of my drink. Was I trying to look for hope or something? Normally, I would tell people the worst possible news so that they will be prepared.

But I can't tell her that for some reason. Nor could I accept just giving up on Wendy as well. But it's futile.

Holding onto a tiny bit of hope for it to be crushed out when it doesn't turn out the way you want it to.

I looked at Yale's face, her expression is a little brighter than when we were making out way to this café. Well, I already told her that something could be done so … let's go all out.

"Zion. Zion."

"What is it?" I turned over on the bed to Rumant. "What's wrong? Can't sleep?"

"Yeah." He said, feeling around the covers for my hands, grasping them once he found them. "I can't stop worrying about Wendy."

"Worrying is not going to do anything, Ru," I said, watching him play with my fingers. "You know that."

"I know." He said, sighing. "I know but that doesn't stop me from worrying. I wonder what is going to happen to Alexis if they both die. How he will be and all that."

"Since you are not going to sleep unless we talk," I pulled him closer until we were only a breath away, "let me ask you this, what if we are able to save only one of them? Who would you save and why?"

"I don't like that question, Zion." He said, looking me in the eyes, sadly.

Times like this, I can't help but wonder how he is an exceptionally strong person that has a higher kill count as compared to mine.

He is strong but not at the same time and I can't help but want to protect him from everything bad in this world but … that is not how I do things.

"Sorry, but it is a practical question," I said, wrapping my arms around him. "If you were given that choice, what would you do?"

"Y-you're really mean, you know that, Zion." He said pushing away from me, pouting. "I will not answer that question. How can you ask something like that of me? I will save the two."

Will you be able to? The feeling of failure stings harder when you are convinced that you could do something.

But … that isn't something I can teach. The only thing I can be is supportive and comforting.

"Sorry," I said, wrapping my arms around his waist from behind. "I just want you to know … no matter what, I am on your side."

"I know." He said, sinking into my embrace. "I know, just let me be a little brat right now. I want to be unreasonable and have superstitious dreams, complaining about anything and everything. Even if they don't make sense."

"Then go ahead and complain," I said, holding him tighter. "I will listen to everything you have to say."

We laid like that with him switching conversations on a whim, talking and talking until he fell fast asleep in my arms.

I was awake for a little longer. My mind running a hundred miles an hour at so many possibilities.

Like Rumant said, if they died, what would Alexis do? What would we do? And if we could choose between the two … wouldn't it be better to save the wife?

Someone Alexis knows and already formed a relationship with. Someone we know he loves. Saving the child … he doesn't even know this unborn child.

What if he turns to hate the child? What kind of life will both live then? Is there even a point anymore?

This is one of the reasons why humans really are no fit to play God. Not for their own lives and especially not for others' lives. This is not going to end well.

"Glad you two could make it!" A silver-haired girl said, grinning at us.

"Yeah, I didn't think you both would be this early." An identical silver-haired girl said, the two smiling at the exact same time.

Group J. Mia and Maya. They can both turn into weapons like Yale can though they can only turn into one type of weapon. Distance combat types.

Mia has deep red eyes that almost look dark brown and Maya has light brown eyes. The two are so similar that if you do not pay attention to their eyes, you can get mixed up.

They are exceptionally brilliant at long-range attacks but suck at close combat.

"It's nice to see you both as well." I greeted the two while Yale didn't even bother, holding a fan to her face.

"Cold as ever, I see." Mia chuckled, looking at Yale.

"What did you expect? She is called the Ice queen here, though the irony is that her partner actually uses ice magic." Maya said, throwing her arms around her sister's shoulder.

"I wouldn't call it magic necessarily," I said, looking at the helicopter in the helipad in front of us.

HQ. It's been a while since we were here. The cold, grey walls and silent halls, nothing has changed. But I am not one to complain.

If it can remain like this forever, I would be happy.

"Hey! It's Zion and Yale!" My body instinctively stood in front of Yale the moment I heard the shout.

There was Group C. Lucille, a blonde, green-eyed wielder and Hudson, the weapon with a little darker shade of blond as compared to his female partner. Lucille is an A grade cleaner that, in my personal opinion, is second only to me and Yale.

Hudson has the personality of a Golden Retriever and that is great at keeping me and Yale away. He is too energetic, we feel exhausted just from being beside him.

This two-hour trip is going to be exhausting, we can already feel it.

"You both look so good. It's been a while since we saw you, how are you? What have you both been doing these days?"

And there he starts. I made eye contact with Yale and we both already seem exhausted.

"Hudson!" Lucille shouted, the boy coming to her side immediately. "Don't just run off on your own."

Yes, please keep an eye on your dog.

"Sorry." He said, scratching the back of his head. "But look who is here."

"I know." She turned to us, smiling kindly. "You are both early. That is unlike you."

"We couldn't slee-" I said but got jabbed on my stomach by Yale instead.

"We just wanted to be early today." She said, fanning herself. "What about you two?"

"Well, someone was a little excited to meet Group A again." Lucille chuckled, turning to Hudson beaming at us. "So we came a little earlier."

"I see almost everyone is here." A voice said, making everyone turn to the two boys in military uniforms. "Guess we are fashionably late at last."

"Whatever." The black-haired boy with white tips said, looking at me and Yale, instantly smiling. "Hey, you two."

Great, an annoying person has come.
